I was 5 years old when I first saw High Non. At that age, I knew it was beyond special. It was a masterpiece. Since that time, I have chosen to live my life with honor, integrity, and courage.

Not only the greatest Western ever made but possibly up there with great pictures like Casablanca or gone with The wind and The wizard of Oz this is what the Western film was all about and why so many of them are highly thought of today because you just can't make a good Western these days hundreds of them made I wish they would show more but I think this is the greatest Western of all time no argument either. 5:35

This movie particularly spoke to my father, an officer in WWII and a lawman. "You can't really count on anyone but God to always back you." I have always wondered how the events of that day affected the later relationships of the people of the town -- the wives who watched their husbands just sit there, the children who watched their parents.

Thank you for this review this movie really reminds me of Clint Eastwood film High Plains drifter the people didn't do Jack diddly squat for this guy they would've literally murdered him by doing nothing

I love the movie high plains drifter directed by Clint Eastwood and of course starring himself in the film anybody who has the guts to make a story about a ghost coming back for vengeance something like the grim reaper coming back for vengeance find this one of the most thought-provoking films that he's ever made but it never seems to get the attention that it really deserves it's not just a violent film it's a film about revenge and retribution for those committed a crime thank you Clint Eastwood I think your film is one of the 10 greatest westerns of all time of course that's just my humble opinion.

Like almost all Western films the basis of the action is about revenge. For some reason, because the Marshall sent this guy to prison, and his sentence was commuted he decides to hire 3 incompetent gunman to go and kill him? Aside from the lack of logic, how did the Marshall find out about the plan. And didn't you find the fact that his Quaker wife, whom he just married that morning, shoots a guy in the back as the climax of the movie? A good idea gone sour.

You cut it off too soon, and John Waynes film clip should not be shone at all.

    What a strange, strange film

It is an all time classic. It is a strange film because it is a western in which most of the characters are cowards and a hero who is both vulnerable and full of fear. Very few westerns are like this.

I've never understood the allure this movie. To each his own, but to me the writing, acting, editing and cinematography are all just average. The McCarthyism metaphor is ham-handed and the suspense of the climactic scene is non-existent. Like I said, to each his own, but I'll take Shane, The Big Country, or The Ox-Bow Incident.

It's all about the metaphor and how strong it's expressed.
