Hi tim,Another great day out in beautiful bulgaria, Love the multi camera shots and many thanks for bringing these wonderful video's into our homes kind regards bob."PS NOW TO WATCH PARTS 2 3 &4."
Hi Robert, its wonderful that these railways have survived, progress hasn't swept these glimpses of the the past into the history books yet. With any luck they have survived long enough for their true tourist potential to be realised. I hope you enjoy the remaining instalments.
Although the steam engine is not used every day, this is a real working railway serving the local community. Its a pretty country, once away from the towns. The steam engine was popular with the staff and the local people.
So, I'm review this railway travel again -- with about 2th years time-gap. Rhodope is very scenic place too, I like it. And I like the 'Rhodope Mountain Railway' landcape - to 'Cepinska Gorge' railway too. Many thanks, dear Tim, for these virtual tours. Have nice holidays!
What a beautiful and functional railway. This line would run multiple tourist trains each day if it had easy access to American Railfans. This 30 inch gauge physical plant is in wonderful condition. Thanks for posting this delightful video.
+dbarnkow I think this railway would be a major tourist attraction if were in most places, but in Bulgaria it is just a means of transport, unfortunately it has lost its freight customers to road competition. Being a real working railway adds to the attraction and I hope more tourists are attracted to the area both to enjoy a ride on the train and to see the wonderful unspoilt scenery.
Hi Tim, enjoyed revisiting the trip though your film. I like the way you combine the forward facing, on train and still shots. Very good, look forward to further installments and the standard gauge. Neil
Hi Neil, good to hear from you, I am working on the next installment now, although I am about to upload a "Drivers Eye View" version up to the summit at Avramovo. I mounted the camera on the diesel and the smooth ride gave such a good result, I decided to add it as a sort of bonus. Look out for it, should be available tomorrow .... Tim.
Very nice video Tim! A great tour of an interesting land. Was this a special tourist train, saw lots of people watching and filming your train. Nice mix of views, you must have a very secure camera clamp! Thanks again for sharing your adventures with us, they are really enjoyable. Looks like you are getting into some interesting terrain!
Hi Scott, we were travelling with RTC (The Railway Touring Company) on a tour of Bulgaria and parts of Greece. This tour was the "Black Sea Express", it included trams, steam and diesel traction on both standard and narrow gauge. It was strange to see ex British Rail Class 87 electric locomotives, some in rail blue, still carrying the double arrow logo and original name plates. We visited engine sheds including the fabled steam reserve .... engines put into store in case oil was in short supply. The scenery was outstanding. As time permits I will post more videos of this amazing adventure .... Tim.
Great video, Tim! :) As a request - can you upload a video of the entire uninterrupted footage from the loco camera from Dobrinishte to Yakoruda (like you've done with the Yakoruda-Avramovo section - which is also a great video btw :) )? And of course if there is a similar footage from Avramovo onwards - that too :) Once again, thanks for sharing!
streleco Hi, thank-you for commenting, I was lucky enough to mount the camera on a smooth running diesel locomotive between Yakoruda-Avramovo. The camera was mounted on the steam engine for the rest of the trip, this was fine when the engine was coasting, but not when it was working hard. I have included as much of the usable footage as possible, the only way I can use the rest is to increase the speed as this reduces the distortion. This is a clip taken in the Cepinska Gorge - ruclips.net/video/RzJXb0uZbx4/видео.html - let me know if this is acceptable, if so, as time permits I can do this for some or all of the run from Dobrinishte to Yakoruda. It would be nice to return one day and mount the camera on a diesel for the whole trip, but I would have to find out how to arrange this with BDZ :)
thanks for the prompt reply, Tim :) It's obvious from your videos that you have very high quality standards, they are all great indeed :) And so is the Tsepinska Gorge clip, but even at high speed I think it's clear that the other footage will be great too :) I understand that it won't live up to your standards, but given the gem that the Septemvri-Dobrinishte line is and the lack of such footage of it maybe you can do an exception :) I personally really enjoy such clips at normal speed and with the original sound, but of course this is all personal preference. In the end it's up to you of course and at any rate once again thanks for the great clips! :) Hope you do return to Bulgaria and have more great experiences here ;)
streleco Hi, thanks for your reply, as time permits I will re-visit the video taken during this trip to see what I can do. I really enjoyed visiting Bulgaria, it would be nice to return one day.
sanjeev choudhary This trip passed through very pleasant Greek countryside, the next Greek trip passes through wonderful mountain scenery. It is one of my all time favorite rail journey's and should be available in a day or two.
Tim, thank u so much for this fine video. I really like it, here iun N W OHIO we are seeing some warm wx, my best to u mate. Ron, WB8NMK IN N. W. OHIO USA May 17-2015
Ron Winke Hi Ron, this line is a real gem, an everyday working railway. The steam engine is not normally used, except for enthusiast specials such as the one we were travelling on. I wish it was a little warmer here in the UK, it is overcast and raining today. Thanks for taking time to comment .... Tim.
A great train trip - but TERRIBLE music. A simple 30 minute conversation with someone I can deal with. But the music made the mouse move faster into the video.

Your love of trains is addictive. I love watching your videos. Again another exciting trip. Thanks for sharing. Safe travels ahead. God bless.
Thought the goat was going to attack the train ha ha love it.
Bulgaria is a lovely country, mostly unspoiled by the modern day world, I'm glad you enjoyed the trip.
Awesome scenery and fascinating to see the local culture and buildings. I love the sounds the engine makes!

Very beautiful nature all over the road. Not once rode from Velingrad to Avramovo. I couldn't resist and made a video for RUclips.
Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed this video, I looked at your video featuring this railway, it's very good.
