I wanted a concrete vanity/sink for my master bathroom and rather than buying one, I decided to make one from scratch. In this 2 part series of videos you'll see my entire process of building the form, the products I used, pouring the concrete, and vibrating the top so that it doesn't have bubbles. This is something you can do yourself if you have the time and energy and I highly recommend you give it a shot.

The drywall job with four corners meeting up instantly lowers my confidence in this video.
Totally agree lol. That's the first thing I noticed and I was fixated on it the whole time. Not even sure what I watched lol
even the guy at my Home Depot knows you offset board, maybe there is another explanation lol
Thx... I'm sure you hear this a lot --but you're a natural teacher, good communicator with an earnest enthusiasm that comes across sincerely. Thx for this video; nicely done.
All you need for the vibrator is a sawzal with out a blade, Just touch it to the table and hit. works like a charm!
Good idea. Thanks.
I really like your "let's give it a try" approach and how you explain things.
You can also just use a random orbital sander (without sandpaper) on the form itself to help the concrete settle. Works like a charm!
Holy crap! Your a Bills fan! I'm a Bills fan too I'm from Buffalo NY! Let's Go Buffalo!
They are a lot more work than I thought too. Nice work. Go Bills
Really liked your attitude toward this 1st time project. I agree that it can be stressful and that mistakes can be made, but mistakes = experience = skills. The satisfaction that comes witth something you made yourself also weights alot in the balance in the end. Its not always a simple 1st degree "will I save money" thing. GJ i will surely try this in the future.
I can’t believe I was half way through before I noticed the Bills hat. Let’s go Buffalo.
GO BILLS!!!!
Loving the hat and of course our hometown team. Thanks for the ideal.
JAJAJA This guy is so funny ! Haven't watched natural comedy like this in a long time.
don't ever use paper towel.the wood fibers it leaves behind will get into your finish. use a microfiber cloth that won't shed.
Dive right in, I like your style.
GO BILLS GO
Great 👍🏿 Job SMART GUY! Thanks for your honesty 💯🙏🏿💙👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏿👏🏾🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
No handprints? You gotta put handprints!
Instead of an actual concrete vibrator, you can wipe down your forms and than us a oscillating or standard palm sander. The vibrations from the tool carry through the form. This works on projects that run about 24"-30" of depth up to 3" of thickness.
I like it, it’s nice, I like the knockout touch (edge liner, finished) ..
i screwed my top onto a table. i bolted a bench grinder and cut off 1/4 of the grinding wheel and used that to vibrate my concrete tops
Thank you for being honest about your work.
Nice work, only problem is that you are a Bill's fan.
Brilliant idea and enjoyable video to watch. It would be very easy to simulate a granite finish after it's made. That would have been my choice but you know what would go in your own bathroom better than me. Thanks again.
The thumbnail of the video leads you to believe that is what he did, but alas, the thumbnail isn't even a picture of his project. This video was a terrible DIY video, he doesn't even show his process for building the mold, only tells you. From what I've seen of concrete DIY videos, the mold is the most crucial part of the build.
I don't think it was needed. It was pretty obvious as the mold technique was considerably basic. You could easily make your own mold out of a plastic sink bowl. The only accuracy needs to be the surface that will be seen. Quite honestly, I had never though of using concrete which was why I made my comment. Whilst I am not sure if it is for my bathrooms, the idea was interesting. I, personally, enjoyed the video but understand that you didn't. However, that is just a fact of internet life and doesn't mean the video was "terrible".
I think he should have went into the mold build a little bit. But I'll admit I harped on that because of how the thumbnail was a complete lie. The thumbnail led me to believe he somehow made the concrete look as though it had a granite finish, which he didn't. Not even close.
I don't even own a house and I just got off nighshift and I'm watching this lol..wtf
OMG I'm not the only one!
U alive bro?
Do you own a house yet? What's going on? Are you still night shift?
❤❤❤❤
Looking forward to 2 of 2!
Such a nice work. What's more, there is a lot of fun and budget issue inside this job. I have a question, how to get a fiberglass sink model?
I suggest you try our mill cut steel product. You would be able to reduce concrete needed and insure hight strenght
this is strong enough to get presure? do not wear iron frame inside concrate
There should be a lot more steel in the concrete. You did good to put the rebar in but you should have put in a sheet of steel mesh. It keeps the concrete from spreading and adds another layer of protection across the entire surface. Just look up when pros actually build concrete structures and driveways. Otherwise it turned out nicely. Good job
Nice work, Owen Wilson!
goga
Nice first Job. But I do concern about the lack of steel bar mesh, which would reinforce the structure, since any punctual stress might crack o split the sink's surface. You showed two steel bars, but I never saw in the video, where you placed them. I'd have used steel bar mesh for reinforcing the structure.
But it's even a very nice and useful sink, man.
Congrats!!!
the part we want to se eyou doing, you already did. the stuff we dont need to see like cleaning is in the video instead ;P
This guy is pretty cool, honestly. Subbed. Thanks for the entertainment and tutorial!
Sunscribed before i even watchedthe video because of the bills hat LOVE IT
Request: Fix the Buffalo Bills next
i enjoyed the video. Im sure someone already suggested this, but why not use a palm sander to vibrate the form? i think it would do the trick
I feel at ease with this man's presence I identify with his ness
you bet your sly talkin keister
Parabéns pelo canal, seus vídeos são muito legais! merece muito reconhecimento!
GO BILLS!!!!
Ok so my only problem with this video is the thumb nail photo is not the vanity sink you're making here... a bit misleading
Still I love what do Keep em coming...
and maybe some day make that that vanity in the Thumbnail photo
Thanks for the vids
.. do you have a link to the video or plans of the vanity the thumbnail shows?
At least he said what everyone was thinking when it came up
That rebar was overkill big time! It looked like commercial grade where you could have got away with 1/4". Minimal rebar support was smart but another thing to consider using is fiberglass. It's cheap enough to give you a solid insurance plan and peace of mind for years to come.
Awesome bills hat!
GO BILLS!
Go Bills!
OMG It's Edward Snowden!
Very Cool. BTW..Love the Hat...go Bills!
I want to see part 2!!
DO IT! JUST DO ITT!
Definitely need a helper to mix for ya
Water proof concrete would have protected the sink during winter time when you should leave the facet dripping to keep the pipes from freezing cause your sink will not just get cold it will sweat beneath and leak water into its surface which will cause it to crack and need replacement. Depending on where you live at should tell you for haw long winter cold days will last and those when you will not be at home. Water proof concrete is for usage underwater and it dries quickly. Another consideration is pressurized concrete which is used on airport runways which is also water proof. If you would have chosen a foam concrete you might have had a lighter sink & top. Depending on load bearing walls and flooring joist will determine just how long it will be before you must choose another concrete and make repairs to the home. In pressurized applications aluminum metal molding with clamps are best not wood, since they have grooves there is no need of silicon tubes but release agent you will always need to consider and get the best. Its been a year and a half month almost since you posted this 2 part experience. Since I have a bathroom and a kitchen to consider doing myself I will take your advice as a helpful suggestion but persuade myself there must be some drastic changes to have a successful pour which will last beyond my lifetime regardless of the weather conditions and ownership. I got to do what is right.
Did you forget to put rebar in? Didn't see it in time lapse.
Great video! Other than the Bills hat! :)Learned a lot. Thanks!
Who taped that wall? Hurts my little heart
Neat video! Thumbs up, but to the Bills Hat lol. Thanks for the video.
a super plasticizer added to a drier concrete mix will turn it into a watery mix for a short time and give it a lot of strength when it sets. but so far I love your video.
Awesome hat
So tell us the concrete ratio if thats ok? 4 to 1 ? 3 to 1 or 5 to 1 ?... making ones own concrete mix is going to be better\cheaper etc
Don't over vibrate the concrete. The aggregate should be evenly distributed through the concrete and over vibration will cause the aggregate to settle at the bottom which is the top.
why didnt you put reinforcements in the concrete?
takes some practice to do concrete countertops. you did real good. I could have knocked it out in about 2 hrs from start to cure time start. Looks awesome...
@@MrFixItDIY I emailed you as well, send me specs I can ship them lol. You did great for your first time.
Hey nice Bill's hat.
Hmmm have you tried again using aircrete? I think that would make it easier to move and make.
Let's go Buffalo!!!
can we use this for a bathroom besides the master? or is it master only
Water is not draining because wash basin is not in level... any suggestions?
What is the size diameter for the holes in the sink and faucet pipes.
Very nice work. I was thinking may be it would be better to use more bars with smaller diameter or steel mesh rather than only two steel rebars. Also I go a question. Have you used a sealer so moisture doesn't penetrate and cause rebars to corrode?
You could also make your own molds
I think for the next time maybe better if put some checkered metal rods in your ciment , but all the rest look nice
Very Informative video thank you for sharing
I just checked your website.. $250 for the sink mold alone?! Why on earth does it cost so much? I'd be tempted to DIY that thing as well
I am building our house. I'm doing my research on the concrete table tops. The only thing that I can't find the answer to, is the way that it holds up in use. The concrete sealer does it age well (I know that you have to reapply periodically, like every year)? But let's say you spill milk or grease. Does it stain? If I use it for bathroom and even do a sink, does the sealer hold up to the toothpaste, soap, detergent? Is it safe for food? Thank you.
nice one
Anyone else here past midnight ??
You aren't filling me with confidence, but It's a learning experience... Did you say Harbor Freight? :)
Only 2 bars of rebar? Will that be enough?
Notice the Bills hat. I don't care for professional football, but that means you are most likely from Buffalo. cheers brother
Would rebar reinforcement make it better?
This video is a good attempt, but I find this very confusing without a step by step from the beginning. Show the tools and products you are working with prior to talking about them. An overhead camera shot would be helpful.
I just wish those molds weren't so damn expensive.
Now that you've done this, how would you make the sink mold now? Any suggestions?
"Dildo looking thing" is that a technical trade term or .....LOL!!!
Twanimoto Crostreet haha i came to write this exact comment.
I want a cast concrete single basin laundry tub....And thinking DIY maybe the only way to go.
looking for a concrete mold....and you start the video after you make the mold lol... thanks
May I know whether do we have to put any fiber in the cemment? Or just pure cemment will do?
Got it! Tq so much!!! :D
Good job, you win a suscribe and like
Do you know if vegetable oil will work instead of the release agent ?
how much did the sink mold cost? did tou really make this for around $200 including all materials used to make it?
Ok this is a great channel, I enjoyed this and subbed, thank you.
be aware that this method wont work. you need much more steel in this toop. the areas where the sink meets will crack
make sure you put lots of mesh in, otherwise looks nice
If you dont like bubbles showing up on your countertop dont use oil prior to pouring comcrete
Are you the same mr. Fix it on aftv anyway love your Channel peace out...
Where did you get the sink
I'm quite excited to see how it goes!
where to buy the form for washbasin
Is that basin just a regular basin or a template?
What else could I use for a sink mould?
Thanks Tom Keen
What happens if you start filling concrete from your high point and then filll in the bottom once the top stops slumping? Similar to how they pour concrete steps?
No rebar for strength?
watch the video he shows rebar
