It is not a foregone conclusion that Israel will even win this war in Gaza. Israel is hiding the number of soldiers killed in Gaza. Some estimate the number to be over 4,000 so far. Israel cannot sustain those types of losses for much longer.

I was in Israel a few years ago in a hotel in Jerusalem. One of the managers in the hotel was an Arab. he was charming and polite. He told me that his son was studying at the Hebrew University. He told me he owned an apartment. He told me he owned land. He then took his phone to show me works of art he had produced. One was of the Via Dolorosa in colours of the Palestinian flag. I asked him why , of all the colours of the flag did he use red for the road. His reply was that liberation must be achieved through shedding blood. Now, I reflected hard on the earlier part of the conversation: Here was a man in a successful position in a well established hotel, children who were educated, owned property and reasonably settled in his manner, yet he harboured an ambition to chuck this all away in favour of committing bloodshed.And this was one ordinary guy.

@@freak.558 Sure, just to clarify, the synagogue saying is a known joke, but it signifies a real attitude among Jews, we are not afraid to disagree, in fact the main Jewish holy text after the Bible, the Talmud, is basically an argument among our ancient wise men about different issues, and you learn about how to reach the true and moral through the different views brought in the text

Could you maybe be so kind to tell me the title and authours of the original Talmud book or books( maybe a stupid question but I haven't found it or them)? @@freak.558 That's a good question, I am not really an expert in the matter, I am from a secular family myself but over the past 20 years found myself finding great wisdom in our ancient texts, but I am far from an expert. I will try to ask a wise Rabbi I know and get back to you.
The thing is the Talmud is huge, and pretty complicated to study, so thats a really good question what is the right way for beginners

The war in Ukraine may have awakened some of society, but many here still believe that all people are equal and inherently good. You don't want to deviate from this dogma and you can't represent certain positions in political discourse without being canceled for it. On the other hand exactly this drives people into the hands of rightwing populists. Apart from Dr. Schueftan's blunt analysis, his style would be absolutely problematic. He would immediately be branded a racist and an islamophobe. So he's absolutely right when he says (most) Europeans live in Lalaland and therefor his point of view is way too radical 😉

Yes I completely agree with Dr. Dan. This comes from a once bleeding heart liberal who finally woke up and looked around and noticed where my bleeding heart liberal ideals were taking me and my country. I had been believing a lie perpetrated around the world now not just isolated in my area of existence. I have grown up I started seeing things through grown up eyes. Unfortunately I see a lot of grown up eyes that never grew up. That was something of a mind twister but you get the idea and if you don't check because I don't think your eyes are open you're still in la la land as Dr Dan said. Brilliant sage, who is a realist and knows a job has to be done. One thing I know, there is no such thing as a sweet old lady, harm her children and see what happens. Israel was a sweet old nation, now it can’t afford to be. Really enjoyed the debate, learned a lot, talked with honesty, reason and logic. You give me some hope for the future but you can’t reason with unreasonable like Hamas. It’s a completely different mindset. About living by the sword. I like very much this episode of the movie Untouchables. The experienced cop (Shean Connery) explains how to defeat Capone to the Treasury agent (Kevin Costner), 'He pulls out a knife -- pull out a gun! He sends one of yours to a hospital -- send two of his to a morgue!'
It is so cathartic to hear such words of wisdom, common sense and utter truths. Thank you for explaining reality as it is, and not some delusional wishful world. Israel will triumph !

Some thoughts:
The kids born after 9/11 discovered the letter of Osama bin Laden ("message to America") and it went viral. October 7th may be a turning point for the current population of Israel and its views, but in 20 years there will be Peace Raves again with no active memory of the past. Although, was the US is concerned, maybe the youth is just the product of the current educational system.
Schueftan noticeable pushes back against "solutions". It was brought up, but i presume his argument is: to solve anything you need all the parties involved. Until then you just can (proactively) manage.
Last point: Showing no weakness payed off for Israel in the long run, since more and more neighours are willing to cooperate. I think Oct. 7th was a suidical and barbaric call for attention, for the issue itself and the attention of the Arab neighbours. They may get online support, but in reality there is still no willingness to let them in. Maybe this could be a wake up call for the Palestinians to ask themselves: "how did we get here".
Better yet, "Where are we going?"

We were in a Jewish museum in Germany and the guide has told us about something he said he witnessed when he himself was on a similar tour with a Jewish group.
The guide at that tour tells the local Jewish history of Jews coming, living in the German town. Then there is a pogrom, the Jews are killed, then some time later Jews come back to the town, rebuild, live for some time, then there is a pogrom, the Jews are killed. Then some hundred years later there is another pogrom and so on...
A Jewish immigrant to Germany from Eastern Europe then speaks up incredulously: "But why did they keep coming back?"
The guide turns to him and says: "But you are back here, too."
People want to believe they can live happily and in peace with others. They will forget the danger they are in because it is emotionally more comfortable to go about your day trusting your neighbour than thinking about him waiting for you with his knife around the corner. But that is exactly what happened on October 7. Workers from Gaza have betrayed the Israeli people to terrorists by providing information on the families living there.

There is nothing moral about opposing their transfer. If you do, it makes you indirectly responsible for their victims, and by extension, traitorous to your own people.
