my parents went through a divorce when I was 12. Most my other friends had the same thing happen with their parents. However, a key thing I noticed in my friends and myself was that if the divorced parents were still friends or at least didn't talk badly about one another, that the kids would be fine and happy with the divorce. Whereas when I had friends that had parents that hated eachother and always talked shit to about the other parent, I could see that their kids were affected by that and held resentment about the divorce which spilled over into other issues in the kid's life

and basically what I noticed was that the main reason for divorced parents to be bitter about one another and always be talking shit was because of the settlement. If the mother fked over the father in court, then there was beef between em. Whereas when the mother and father came to a fair settlement, fair sharing of the kids, etc., then the parents got along fine and the kids would also be fine (even if the main reason of divorce in the first place was because of cheating)
