England were just going through the motions and secured one point. Denmark was happy for one point too. The last 15 minutes was sh*t. Without this stupid system both would have pushed much harder. 16 team tournament was much better. Every game mattered.

The problem isn't necessarily the midfield. How many times did England have the ball, yet no movement from forwards for them to pick out. You had Trent, one of the best passers in England, yet he had no runners. At Liverpool, he has Salah, Diaz, Nunez etc all looking to make runs - even Robertson knows to make a run to give him someone to 'pass' to.
Kane gets 'goals' but doesn't really contribute or make the movement to press or stretch defenders. If anything, he drops 'deep' making it more difficult to get deep into the opposition half and makes it too 'congested' to play...

None of this player choice or positioning or whatever was a problem until we scored, then it all goes to crap. That's a purposeful change by the manager, and he doesn't understand that theres no way to make the team play well when you've told them to park the bus for 75 remaining minutes. It's one or the other, and if he wants to protect a 1 0 lead, doing that isnt the way because he just invites relentless pressure on his players for the rest of the game, and as we saw, the more chances you give, the more likely you are to concede. Surely far better would be to stay more aggressive and that way push them out, enjoy more space, enjoy attacking and making chances, and in all likelihood score one or two more. He needs to learn to handle teams coming back trying to equalize and dropping progressively deeper and giving up any forward impetus is not the way to do it. If he does the same against Slovenia there's no telling if we'll win because they'll have the run of the park and a goal can come out of nowhere.

If GS would play an attacking style, and England would lose because of one more gial scored against them, you would want to decapitate GS, too. Most other teams declare their desire to want to win, yet they are much more down to earth and reasonable.

I don't speak German or Italian or Georgian, so I don't know what they are saying but actions speak louder than words. How can they turn up to a tournament where literally dozens of games are in display of high energy, passionate and committed performance with massive effort, then England turn up,play with no effort, they stand out massively. Southgate aint the sharpest knife in the drawer but how can these players get away with the physical output they have displayed, especially when compared to every other team in the tournament. Then as they are powerful brands use or rely on their minions in the media to convince us we have not just seen a team who are only willing to put the bare minimum in physically. The way these players attack the negative and ungrateful fans for daring to criticise them is shocking when all the fans want to see is a team try thier best. In 2018 we were not that great but the fans could see we tried our best and that's all the majority want. If they keep doing this then drop the lot of them and play a team of 2nd tier players who will listen to the manager and run through brick walls for England. I get the feeling they will have a go when the K.O games start because they will deem them games that are important enough to try in. They don't try in friendlies as they are beneath them and now group games its easy to qualify. Our players are a disgrace to the nation and to the integrity of the national game. The only players with more completed long passes in the top five leagues in Europe, who aren't goalkeepers or low block defenders, are Rodri, Aleix García, Kroos, Savanier, Locatelli and Çalhanoğlu. Rodri has 84.8% accuracy, Aleix García 64.5%, Kroos 76%, Savanier 52.1%, Locatelli 71.3% and Çalhanoğlu 70.9%. Alexander-Arnold's success rate is 49.3%.
These aren't even all passes over 50 or 60 yards. It's all passes over 30 yards. It's no different to when people were claiming he and Robertson were the best fullbacks in the world because of the number of assists they had, while they were both propping up the bottom of the table of crossing accuracy across the top five leagues in Europe and the top 10 for number of attempted crosses. It's no different to someone calling a striker world class because he scored 20 goals in a season, without pointing out that he needed 180 shots or 6 shots per 90 over more than 30 apps at 12 yards to do that.
So Southgate is compromising midfield or defensive balance and security for an overrated long ball spammer in a team that plays dry keepball as a defensive measure, with no real runners or targets to aim for. And this is one of many reasons why he has to go. The fact he put the exact same imbalanced XI as the one that squeaked over the line after retreating towards their own goal against Serbia in the next game against Denmark - which then unsurprisingly underperformed - is another. We might as well draft in the U21 squad and coach to finish off this tournament.

@@RL-where did you magic those BS stats from? Trent has by far the most assists of any English player over the last 5 years, in fact it’s only narrowly beaten by De Bruyne. I suppose you think Mainoo will solve everything? Fact check, we lost at home to ICELAND with him playing there 😂

Annoying how everything is blamed on Trent and the front 3 that started didn’t make a single run or option for a pass for the midfielders.

100% agree. no runners for him to find. the whole point of trent there is he has wonder passing over the top. he cant do that if there is noone there!

@@sitaylor but when Conor Gallagher comes on who’s a actual midfielder like u say he does no better probably even worse. Ye he’s not a originally a CM but creating the most chances and giving service to the attackers is what he is there for but when u have Harry Kane and foden making 0 runs in behind trent isn’t as near as useful as he could be. Come on man u should know this

@@sitaylor The whole point of the Trent experiment as far as I'm concerned is his distribution. If there are no runners the experiment is pointless and you may as well use another midfielder instead

Kane is either static or coming into midfield as he did with Spuds (sic) before going to Munich. Only wants the ball into feet and making no runs at all laterally or in behind.

The best side england can put on the pitch same back line. rice and bellingham (cm's) eze(cam), palmer and foden wide then watkins (st). After 60 mins bring on kane (st), take eze off, put foden (cam), Bring saka on as (RW). If you want to keep foden out wide you bring on maino (cam/cm) and keep foden out wide

“alvaro morata is not half the footballer harry kane is”
ok bro… and how many trophies does harry kane have?
while kane may be a top striker, this man has literally never touched silverware. morata has achieved:
    with real madrid
    -2 la liga titles
    -2 copas del rey
    -2 CL titles
    with juventus
    -2 seria a titles
    -3 coppa italia
    with chelsea
    -1 fa cup
    -1 europa league.
kane, despite being the leading goalscorer with bayern, could’t even win the bundesliga.
