I'm about to buy one and I want some experience with this so I can be on my toes with this calculator before my DC Circuits final. I was going to get a Ti-84 because I'm very familiar with the calculator and I know how to program it, but according to many people, I should get a Ti-Nspire if I'm going into computer engineering, which is ALMOST parallel to electrical engineering.

I have just purchase it, for College Algebra. I do the homework, go to all my lectures and attend tutoring a lot. I still don't get Math, some people get it, others don't. So, in my opinion this is a great tool for those who don't. Now, if you planning in becoming an engineer and you don't get College Algebra then maybe you should consider another career. But, for the rest of us who just need a check the box grade I say, let them used it!!!

Anyone please, if you buy this calculator, do you also get the software to run on your PC for free? (or at least some code to download it and use it on both the handheld and the PC)?

yes, you get a free perpetual license for the student software for the calculator. You download the software and activate it with the key you get with the calculator. Works great.
