- Welcome to our tiny home on wheels. In this video, you will hear our story and get a full tour of our skoolie. We are a family of six from Iowa who live and travel in this converted school bus. We purchased the bus (already converted) from another family who sold the bus after one trip. We made modifications including new paint, new barn wood table (that also converts to a couch), decor, new curtain rods and curtains, and additional storage throughout.
Our family sold our house and almost everything we owned to take a LONG trip around the United States in our bus, but it has turned into so much more. We have traveled to 14 national parks and over 40 county and state parks on our adventure, and we are just getting started. We LIVE small and TRAVEL BIG, and wouldn't have it any other way. Make sure and subscribe to our channel to follow along on our adventures and see how we live and travel in The Hocking Adventure Bus!
Check out our first video of us flying to Salt Lake City, Utah to pick up the bus and drive it 1200 miles back to Iowa here:

“We’re selling our stuff. The stuff didn’t make us happy.”
Wish more people could see that.
I was wondering if your family is still doing bus life? My fiancé and I are particularly interested in this type of mobile lifestyle for our family of 4 and it was refreshing to see this video of your family’s journey. A true inspiration!
“A house is not a home” Home is where you feel good!
Absolutely! This feels like home!
Thankyou for sharing. You've got a lovely home on wheels
I like how the bunks have all got windows. Itll be great till the children get bigger.
Stay safe on your journey.
Good morning. Saw your skoolie ❤ this morning at the campground and smiled. Welcome. Just starting my new journey as a CM and RUclips channel to reflect this experience.
You have everything that makes a home a home especially its wonderful to see the kids beds don't look like coffins like most do and glad you changed the color scheme it's beautiful and you have a beautiful family
Thank you so much! The kids love their spaces. We appreciate you watching and commenting ❤️.
Keep doing what you're doing! You're a great example!
Many prayers for a dream future! Everybody loses sight of the big picture!

Jim has always been a great dad! We are so thankful that he is finally getting time with the kids! We are all learning a lot from this lifestyle.
GOD ANSWERED YOUR PRAYERS,SYCH A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY,MAY YOU ALWAYS BE SAFE.
We are so thankful 🙏!!!
Beautiful build. Best one I’ve seen yet ❤
Perfect bus! Best life!
Kiddies and family is so nice. They have their plans and routine like everyone. 👍 systems in place
Thank you. We do! We have to adjust sometimes…and we are always reorganizing…but we try to keep everything simple and organized. Thanks for watching ☺️.
Congratulations and blessings.. 💝 The dad’s voice reminds me of Extreme Makeover tv host Ty Pennington.. “move that bus”. 🚌
Thank you ❤️. Oh yes we remember that show!
Oh there’s the dog! All are so cute!
He's just a baby in this video!
Jim and I sat down and watched this together!! Great video, but it sure makes us miss you guys!! Safe travels and we look forward to more RUclips videos!!
Awe thank you for watching!!! We sure miss you all and can’t wait to see you soon! More videos to come! Take care ❤️
Beautiful skooli!!! I love seeing families with kids doing this!!!
We can’t imagine anything else right now. We love it!
A lovely family! Hope you don’t mind me saying but a couple of comments hint that you may have come from a fairly ‘comfortable’ situation and yet you seem very happy when you talk about downsizing and ‘getting rid of things’. It’s so nice to see things are working out well for your family.
I love the washer and dryer and the separated bathroom space. Safe travels!
We had a big house and a lot of stuff. We were not experiencing life and time with our children because we were working so hard to pay for the house and all the things. We came to the realization that we wanted to focus on time with our family instead of material things. It felt amazing when we started getting rid of the stuff that no longer mattered to us. Does that make sense? ❤️
@@TheHockingAdventureBus would love to have something like this to be the traveling grandma
Do it 😁. We want to be traveling grandparents someday too.
Love your home Safe Travels Always God Bless Y'all God Speed
Thank you so much!
We passed you! Just wanted to say hi
You guys are 7 levels of awesome. Getting out there on the road and living. Good Job!
Awe thanks so much. We sure are enjoying this lifestyle!
Awesome!! You all will make so many great memories together. Blessings!!
Thank you!
The kids are beautiful and that puppy??! So, so cute!!!
Thank you so much!
love you this good..I’m from Egypt 🇪🇬
Thanks so much!
You are such an inspiration for families who are looking to live this life. We are so excited to get our build done and get on the road.
Thank you so much! Everyone has a different story and I think it’s great for people to learn how we got here. Good luck!
So cool! Love the changes you made to make it feel more like home. I hope you post videos of all of your trips! You mentioned that you would not have driven the bus the way you did on your drive from Utah to Iowa if you knew then what you know now. Can you Elaborate on that a little bit more? I saw another family say they only drive about 300 miles a day, is that the recommendation? Can’t wait to see more!
Thank you! Oh gosh we were clueless on that trip home. A few things we have learned since then…up and down shift through mountains…don’t shut the bus off immediately after driving. A lot of the other stuff was related to solar and having no idea how much we could run things. We try to travel 200 miles a day now. That’s plenty for us. We are slow and everyone gets crabby ☺️.
I'd suggest that you replace all the lights with LEDs. They will do a better job and require less energy. Just FYI. Check into it.
Thanks for the tip! I believe all of the lights are LEDs.
I want mine to have the bathroom next to my bedroom instead of having kids so close
Wonderful job.live everything you have done
Thank you so much! It has been an incredible journey!
Those kids look happy to you?
If your family ever makes it to AZ in the future message me and would love to meet y’all and maybe show you restaurants great areas to hike etc. when you come to AZ we are in Waddell near white tank mountain. It’s beautiful here. Your home is so beautiful and love all your special touches.
Also how do you afford to travel after money from selling runs out? Do y’all both work remotely? It’s just great to see families doing this. It’s beautiful God bless your family!!
Thanks so much!
its so amazing , 😍
Thank you!
Love the layout and would like to build something similar. What are the dimensions of you dinette and bunks? Seems like even with full W/D lots of aisle space
I see you got critters how do you keep control on cat to keep it from running off? The dog more controllable than the cat
hey saw your bus at alexander springs last weekend! hope all is well
How do you have your storage organised beside your bed?
Just watched you leaving Fort Pickens campground. You were in C loop. Maybe I can catch a tour of the bus in my next life time.
Awesome! So sorry we missed you! We are always up for a tour!
Since this was 2 years ago, I assume it's become clear that a microwave uses WAY less energy than an oven, and probably the same as a toaster. Heating up coils and keeping them hot for a longer period of time is far, far less energy efficient, assuming stove and toaster are electric.
Do you home school? Do you plan on living in your bus for years to come. It looks so homey!
Yes we home school our kids. Our initial plan was a year but we have no plans of stopping now! We love this lifestyle ❤️.
So when your traveling with your family what's the legality on were the at during the drive that's what I don't understand I'm doin a mid bus and not understanding the laws im in Texas
How do you find a bus like this?
So, do they have to work?
We're reconditioning a Scotty camper here for boondocking... what do you guys do with the dog or cat in National Parks?
That’s great! We usually boondock outside of the park and leave the dog in his kennel. We have a mini split we run if needed to control the temp while we are gone.
I seen your bus this morning during my morning walk. The first thing I noticed was your solar setup and how impressive it was. I do have few questions, do you find the front panels having any fatigue for the wind since they are located so close to the front end of the bus? Also you said you have 4- 200ah battery setup, what chemical make up is your bank( lead acid, agm or lithium) and if its LA or AGM is there a limitation of the runtime of the mini split?
Awesome! We haven't had any issues with the solar panels. We actually redid our solar setup after this video. We have 4- 200ah lithium batteries now. They are wired together for a 48v system. We can run the mini split all day when we have sun. We are conservative at night when we don't have power coming in.
Where do the kids clothes go?
Don't you need a cdl to drive a bus?
What is the length of the bus and if it's over 35 ft how did you get into national parks?!
it is 36'. We tow a car for exploring!
Is it possible to get the layout sent in an email? Me and my wife love it. We wanna replicate it if possible
unfortunately we don't have any sketches! If you would like measurements please let us know!
The sink looks super low.
Tell me you cleaned up the bus for the video. Nobody I know with kids have any area that clean and organized.
Absolutely!!! LOL!
The camera needs to back up..couldn't see everything.
The most precious things on earth is money.. because you nid it to survive in this society...you could live with out kids but with out money you would be homeless..poor and starving and die
