- Super fast Autobahn Drive & Sound with the all new 2013/2014 Skoda Octavia III RS (VRS), as the petrol powered 2.0 TSI delivering 220 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Luckily this car had the optional "Sound generator" (Fahrprofilauswahl inkl. Soundgenerator) that let's this 4-cylinder sound almost like a V8;-) It might be a bit odd that through resonances the in-cab sound is markedly beefed-up, but I think this is a good thing since this car makes a very exclusive and realistic noise! If you listen closely there will be some strange noise within the audio while accelerating. This is actually not from the sound generator but from a loose (plastic) part on the roof console that started vibrating at certain speeds. Of course thats't not the way its supposed to be and the dealer was able to fix it immediately. Besides that I was positively surprised by the car as the engine has plenty of power and "easily" runs 250 km/h (speedo) on an open Autobahn. The ride is comfortable enough for families and long travels and the consumption of around 10.5 litres / 100 km was acceptable considering we floored it during the whole test;-) I hope you LIKE this footage and please don't hesitate to COMMENT & SUBSCRIBE!

why would you get a combi? makes the car hella ugly
I like estates more. Its just matter of personal taste. Superb 2 was excellent example for me. Estate looked much better than hatch. Also i have a dog to carry around.
HowkeyLL I get why you'd get the combi version of a superb or a regular octavia, but putting it on the vRS just seems to defeat the point of making it look more sporty...

Yep, but that makes the best part of the vRS octavia. You get a car that is fast and exciting and yet you can take family on holiday in it. Thats why you dont have to have two cars but only one. I personally love the deep blue octavia combi vrs.
True, didn't really think about it that way. Me personally, I'd get the regular vRS if I was in my 20's (and had the money), and then the Superb Combi later in my 30's to drive my family.
I definitely agree the deep blue is the best looking color.

Just look at the "tradition" with fast Audi wagons: I believe it was the RS2-Avant that started it, and since then the Avant versions of the S4/RS4 and S6/RS6 have often sold much better than the sedans!
It's the ultimate "Wolf in sheeps clothes"-effect, that a powerfull wagon (Combi, Stationcar, estate or what ever one chose to call them) just underlines more than a sedan!
At low revs, this genuinely does sound like a V8.

That low rev sound in sport mode from the sound generator really does make it rumble like a V8...woah, that's actually really really nice :O awesome, do all the 220 vRS models sound like that and come with it?
No, they don't. Only the ones that came with the mode switch do that.
Soundgenerator verbaut naja dann doch lieber den normalen sound...
So it has a sound generator which basically fools you into thinking it's a V8? Pretty soon there will be cars which will fool into thinking you're the one who's driving.
It has microphone in the engine, and it electronically transfersw the sound from the engine into the cabin speakers off the front window. You would hear this sound if you would put your ear on the engine while running. When you do a comfortable car you need to put the road noise and engine noise away, so you insulate the inside of car. This way you can still hear the engine and not hear the noise of the tires, etc. Its a little cheat, its only matter of opinion if its good or bad. Anyway you still can "not buy it", or just turn it off using the computer inside the car.

Great review. I'm looking for a Navigation System for this Skoda octavia combi RS. Do you know were you can buy the Columbus II or another Navigation for in this car, but not too expensive?
Definitiv kein schlechtes Auto :) ... aber dieses "Sound Generator" Spielzeug ist dann doch eher nix für mich. Nichts geht über einen Chevy V8!! ;)
Jetzt investiert ihr noch paar €uronen in ein gescheite Micro ( z.B Zoom h1 ) dann habt ihr alles toll gemacht! ;-)

Könnt ihr nicht mal einen mit dsg fahren? Und vielleicht mal den Sound Generator ausschalten damit man den original Sound hört? Der Sound von aussen beim voll durch beschleunigen währe auch interessant.
Das werde ich gerne einplanen. Ein RS mit DSG interessiert auch mich sehr!
Automann-TV DSG ist Geil. Zumal man auf D=Gemächlich oder auf S=Sportlich fahren kann. Als hübsches Zubrot gibt es auch die Schalt-Wippen

Das stimmt, kaufen würde ich wahrscheinlich auch nur einen mit DSG. Allerdings muss ich sagen, dass der Anzug mit 6-Gang Schaltung im Vergleich zum DSG subjektiv stärker ist. Beim DSG vergeht immer eine kleine Gedenksekunde bis er die Gänge sortiert und den Turbo auf Druck hat, mit der Schaltung fährt er sich nahezu wie ein großer Saugmotor.
