- My personal descent into Microbrand watch collecting madness!!
Disclaimer sited from WIKI: The term "microbrand" is usually synonymous with the microbrand watch industry, though it can also be more widely used to describe any small-scale brand that is likely only recognized in niche communities and among hobbyists.
Informative and entertaining video, nice work. My suggestions for other microbrands are Helm, Direnzo, Ocean Crawler, and newly formed Erebus.
Hey Jodi's company Erebus! 😁
I think you made it clear what you were setting out to do.
I actually write ads for CWard. They probs are bigger/independent now. But they would rather hear your honest thoughts (and have the humility to be delighted with what you said anyway!) than worry about labels. You were honest about them. 👍
Hey thanks for the acknowledgement! Love that logo change now also. You have anything to do with that?
Great video and jokes throughout.
Excellent video… thank you
Great video!!
Zelos was my first purchase in the microbrand arena. I’ve had it almost a year and I still look forward to putting it on my wrist every day. It’s a gorgeous Spearfish model and it keeps time at a clip of roughly +3 seconds a day
I almost picked up a Nova Aventurine for this video :) but they are very hard to find.
Nice video and watches man!!
Great video, lots of cool different brands than the norm sieko, swatch group, or Ali Express ones
Good review. Check out a Swedish microbrand called Bravur. Another microbrand that I like is from the Netherlands, Eza.
Much obliged. I will look into any suggestions. ;)
The AVI-8 illumination - i think this is akin to fliegers like Laco, Stowa and IWC, particularly the Typ B "Navigator's" dial.
Good video. Some of your picks I would classify as independents however, that is just splitting hairs. You need to do a part 2 and 3 and really explore the microbrand world.
I might just do that! Thank You kindly!
Hello, and thanks for this so interesting video. I agree with many of the things said in it. Particularly regarding the fact that it's quite difficult to clearly define what a microbrand is.
But it's easier to define what it could not be.
At first, a microbrand couldn't part of a group. A microbrand is independant. Therefore, Avi-8 and Zeppelin, which have been founded by two solid watches groups can't be microbrands.
Furthermore, a microbrand is not able to manufacture its own watch calibers. It fits generic movements such Miyota, SoProd, Sea-Gull, Seiko or other ones. But Yema makes his own movements since a long time now (and the very last one is a beautiful micro rotor one).
This said, thanks again for this vid.
Well said.
Love my microbrands. Own the Phoibos, a couple of Yema, Christopher Ward, Zelos, couple of Dan Henry, MAS(Australian) and a Richard Legrand . To consider Oris as a microbrand is a bit of a stretch I M O. Thanks for the content!
I was just likening the style of the Vulcain to an Oris watch ;) Thanks for the view!
I just ordered a Brew metric, would love to hear your views on their watches 👍
I almost bought the Metric myself! Never owned a Brew so I haven't had the experience yet but maybe one day I'll come across one.
Well done on your video cw is handmade i didn't know that thanks
Nice video. What about Farer?
Great brand just couldn't afford one. ;)
I understand the feeling. In my country the taxes increases the cost of the watch in 92%. So, a Lot of watches are above my budget
Yes I want one so bad!!
My first was a Farer. I'm a microbrand afficionado.
Cover had the Halios gmt but seems not in the collection 😅😅😅
This is true.
Stay classy with those ‘ lick-the brush’ - tier jokes.
Henry Archer nice Watches
Why thank you sir!!
Get hold a CREPAS!
Thanks for that suggestion! It's much better than all thee peeps telling me which watches I have ARE'NT microbrands. 🙄
Check out a German microbrand called Tourby. They are a bit pricey but they are the best.
Wait ... I thought this was supposed to be microbrands. Why is vulcain and Oris here.
Never said Oris was a microbrand just had a similiar style to the Vulcain. I have seen some YT opinions that said Vulcain was a microbrand. Again, it can be subjective and therefore difficult to nail them down.
Looked up vulcain it is a private company and they make like 3000 watches a year. How's that not a micro? He mentioned Oris just as a comparison
Avi8’s in general are too big to the point they look cheap and too bad because every other way these are a good buy
Avi8 is not too gimmicky for your collection.
I nearly got the spitfire watch just because of the rota , but i didn't like the dial lol 😂 so i didnt buy.
Ha ha yep, I sold mine =)
CW isnt looked at as a micro brand anymore its now looked at as an independent
Yes, all these brands may NOT be considered a microbrand due to changes in any given category. I was trying to give some attention to brands that don't have a huge following.
CW has had alot of recent success and yeah they have moved up the watch tier but it's still a niche watch and have been known as a micro brand for ever
Started with interest, but then the very first watch is most definitely not a microbrand!
It was a subjective opinion of my own that they "lean" towards microbrand and I stated this at the beginning of the vid. I am aware that some folks do not see it that way due to who their parent company is. I hope you were able to get some enjoyment out of the collection nonetheless. This was also an attempt to help navigate away from the norm of collecting.
I thought it was great, lots of smaller lesser known brands
The date window on that Zeppelin is really out of touch.
As are the more modern subdial markings.
Manny people doesn’t know how Oris 65 is a blatant Copy of Vulcain Nautique!!
Don't know I would say the term "copy" but for sure an homage. Being the owner of a Diver 65 helped me make the comparison. ;)
Can I be honest with you, the triangle Pyramid symbol on many watches is extremely ugly, I don't understand why they don't use another form , it's making me sick, this is one of the reasons why I don't like diving watches, they are all the same basically.
I'm glad you are honest as you should be when it comes to your personal likes. I can appreciate that need for diversity.
