Thank you for this video. As a retired 71 year old female, I was able to follow you instructions and I'm very proud of my result.
I have watched so many rubbish videos to try and learn how to repair my window sills. Oh how I wish I'd seen this one first. Excellent explanations, a real craftsman at work. Thank you so much for your efforts.
Thank you very much Jonathon. We're glad it was helpful.
fascinating to watch a craftsman working, thank you for the info and entertainment :)
This man is in top of his game top class workman ship

Excellent job 🙌🏼

Should your saw cuts be angled to hold the mortar better
Hi Cindy. Thank you for the question. In the past, many engineers asked for prep work to include "dovetailing" (angled saw cuts to help anchor mortar repairs). The required angle of the dovetail required to secure a composite repair in place is typically only 2 to 3 degrees. In the field, it's very difficult to maintain such a small angle of cut, and most installers will over cut the dovetail angle to 45 degrees. This puts a strain on the mitered corners of the dovetail, which can cause more deterioration of the original substrate.
When installed correctly, the composite repair will properly bond to the host substrate without the need for the dovetail prep. If additional mechanical anchoring is desired/required, we typically recommend stainless steel reinforcement be installed as part of the composite repair.
@@Conproco thank you for response is very informative

jk08 no gloves
lots of videos but what about over head repair?
I have a question...can i repair without a bonding agent or do i have to have one
Hi Martha. Matrix and Matrix Superfine mortars are designed to be used without bonding agents.
Is there a way to add color? The lintels I need to repair on my house are red.
Hi Molaleni. We offer a standard red color, and we also offer custom color matching. We don't suggest adding powdered colorant yourself, since it can alter the consistency and properties of the mortar.
can you recommend either a firm in chicago, or a course in this, somewhere in chicago? cheers
What kind of cement is this?
This is Conproco's Matrix repair mortar.
Hi guys, do you have products that work well with linestone step repair?
Matrix or Matrix Superfine can be used to repair limestone (steps). It is recommended to apply step repair thicker than typical vertical so the repair has enough “body” to withstand repeated foot traffic. Most repairs for steps should be done at a minimum of 1” thick. Allow for longer curing times (1 week+) prior to opening repairs up to foot traffic. Please follow the instructions for application on the product data bulletin listed at www.conproco.com. Treating horizontal repairs with a water repellent (Conproco Shield MX) would protect the repairs and help them wear better with the existing limestone.
SSD 🙄 is that one of the special forces? What’s wrong with saying wet the stone?
What is it with these masonry guys and no after videos. Damn i want to see how it looks after you are done!
Hi Corey. Thanks for your comment. This video was created as a tool for installers in the field in terms of proper installation techniques. We will create some new videos including finishing and "after" photos in the near future. If you would like to see "after" photos, we do have project profiles on our website.
Corey, just want you to know we now incorporate after shots into all of our new videos because of your comment!
How much would you charge to do a job like this?
We are not contractors, we manufacture the materials used. If you're looking for a contractor in your area, one of our distributors could refer you. Our distributors can be found by using this link to our website: conproco.com/where-to-buy/
Hope that helps~
I've done two jobs with two different Companies in the Boston area. The first job my boss was able to renegotiate the contract midway through the project and somehow turn a profit, so I heard.
The second project, the boss had know idea when he bid the scope of the work and lost his shirt.
I used Jansmorter on the first project which was Bluestone. The second project was Brownstone and i used the Conproco.
Both products are almost identical, mix ratios are a little different. I personally liked the Conproco better.
To answer your question: it is my opinion that it is impossible to estimate the time it takes to complete a repair depending on the detail of the repair.
Time, labor, material and lots of patients are required to successfully use this material.
Damn your good i am definitely going to subscribe. Today was my first day as a mason helper and i look forward to lean this trade construction and repair 👍🏽 salutes from Tomball TX!!
Thanks and welcome to the industry! We know you'll love it! Keep an eye out for our training events. We're usually in Maypearl, TX at least once a year.
Opep, send me an email at orders@conproco.com and i'll send you a great pocket guide to masonry repair.
What was the mortar quantities
Hi June. Matrix mortar is a proprietary stone repair mortar. Matrix is mixed 4 to 4 1/2 parts powder to 1 part water. Please follow mixing instructions on the current technical data bulletin.
any tricks for over head repair?
Hi Luke. Overhead repair is usually completed in shallower lifts. Allow lifts to stiffen 5-10 minutes (temp dependent) so as not to add too much weight and movement on previous lift.
If possible, you can take try to setup a slip form and pack material in larger lifts supported by the form (and any mandated anchors). Slide the slip form after mortar starts to stiffen and create a new “shelf” to continue patching.
What type of concrete
The Matrix in this video is being applied to reinforced precast concrete. We also offer a more economical repair mortar designed specifically for concrete surfaces called ISR CM. ISR CM comes in a wide variety of standard colors, and can also be custom matched.
Really nice job, impressive.
Thanks for the kudos Ana. It's always nice knowing someone found our videos beneficial! Let us know if there are other relevant topics we could cover.
Do you have videos on ground level decks as entry ways and also just as a free floater in the backyard, pros and cons about that?
Unfortunately, we don't have videos that cover homeowner topics like that Ana. You might want to consider asking a knowledgeable distributor in your area who could give you some diy advice or recommend a contractor in your area.
