People should keep in mind that this is a jam. It's a song written by Andy...Sungha had learnt the accompaniment and Tommy's job was to work out a third part to it. This was their first go at it, the second was on stage. Just some background info to provide perspective :)
wow 3 great guitarist playing together at the same time, this must be heaven. I love how the way Tommy seems to listen and study the music before he starts playing, and then he improvised.
Tommy did great job with this song because this is the first time he hears the whole thing and is finding out things to play into it. Tommy is in totally different league than Andy and Sungha. I'm great friend of Sungha and I know Andy. But to be honest Sungha and Andy have long way to go. Actually there is no competition and if you know Tommy personally and see him live you will know and feel it.
...it really amazes me to see so many people judging instead of listening....trying to be the centre of attention instead of being humble in front of such talented musicians...moaning,comparing and criticizing all the time instead of feeling priviledged...
+darksquirrel409 why would anyone ever want to criticize top musicians when jamming...I mean with what qualifications could you do that-If you dont like what you hear just move on...instead you question their indisputable talent-this is not constructive critisism...its called non constructive envy...
Nope, constructive criticism. As talented as these people are, they are just men. Not gods. and we as fellow humans reserve the right to have have an opinion and critique their work when they upload a session to a public forum. that's kinda how RUclips and the internet in general works sir, you should have learned this by now o.O edit: why on earth would I be envious of musicians that I have nothing but admiration for? I have supported Andy McKee from day one by following his channel and buying/downloading all his albums, so your assumption that envy is the driving force behind my comment is entirely unfounded and incorrect. Maybe you're projecting your feelings of envy of their talents onto me perhaps?
...i respect your opinion as a human being and therefore I will not say anything else on this part....however-being a musician myself- please allow me to question your understanding and comprehension ...in terms of music ofcourse...
I am a guitarist and a pianist, so I do have quite an extensive understanding of music and how it works etc but I feel as though that's irrelevant, there were parts that worked and parts that didn't. Some have said that this may be due to Tommy Emmanuel not actually knowing the source material and kind of just riffing along with Andy etc. Don't get me wrong, there are segments that sync up perfectly, but in other areas there are obvious clashes in terms of style and notes which I feel anyone with ears could determine. I feel we should all just try and respect everyone's opinions instead of trying to stifle other people's voices and points of view :)
Something about this makes me worry less about issues in my life right now. Then again, Sungha's playing has always cheered me up... But this... Good Grief!
Sungha is playing the backup part just like Don Ross did, he was supposed to add percussion at those parts. Stop complaining about his percussion and go to watch the Ebon Coast duet of Andy and Don Ross people!
You can tell all these people commenting about the quality of the video are not musicians. They are JAMMING, that means freely putting a unique twist on the Original song of Andy Mckees. They are trying something new and enjoying the moment. This is not something that is rehearsed or edited. Of course it's going to be a little weird.
Sound that tommy did was perfect, fully embedded in the music, completed what was missing in the Music was very good he knows what makes muiiito Parabens Tommy continues giving this joy to the soil musicians
I actually really like this! Simply because it's cool to see 3 completely different guitar players sit down and jam. It has some bad spots but most jam sessions do.
Learnt about Sungha Jung when he started, Learnt about Andy Mckee when he started and a girlfriends dad introduced me too Tommy Emmanuel,Too see my Three favourite guitarist in one room, is so amazing... Like What the fuck, these guys are my heroes.
Tommy made a solo for this song in 40 seconds. He probably has never heard it, and these 2 others have probably practiced for hours on end, and know it by heart. Tommy is the Grand Master Ultra Almighty supreme overlord of guitar!
i think he played an okay solo although it didn't follow the chords or the flow of the song (because yeah he probably never heard it before), but putting improvising a solo on the spot against playing a piece by heart is comparing apples to oranges.
god, every time i watch a video with tommy emmanuel in it, it gets me way excited that i get to play on the same stage as him. anyone in jacksonville, florida feb. 25, go to the great guitar gathering! with tommy emmanuel, local blues player barry greene and the douglas anderson high school guitar orchestra! its gonna be GREAT!!!
This guy Sungha is unbelievable. It will be exciting what the world can expect from him when he becomes older. I find it interesting to see that a lot of super guitarists play together already with pleasure with him. They also feel that Sungha will be a guitar hero too in the future.
awesomeness as always Sungha man when you coming to Australia dude I'll be first to line up and buy a ticket to your concert :-) , you have amazing talent I'd spend 100$ for the ticket if i had to lol.....
always wanted to do that. . . I remember watching andy mckee years ago. so fantastic that sungha gets to play with him. Lennon and McCartney of fingerstyle?

I guess he is really on it with his jazz stuff so a great improviser.
Yeah.. pretty much
Yes i think you are, for the 1st time Tommy is out of his element!!!!!
Nah he fucked it up, actually. I play guitar i can tell
Three generations of HUGE inspiration! :) Cool jam.
Tommy did great job with this song because this is the first time he hears the whole thing and is finding out things to play into it. Tommy is in totally different league than Andy and Sungha. I'm great friend of Sungha and I know Andy. But to be honest Sungha and Andy have long way to go. This is where passion, practice and perseverance brings you.....right there amongst the very best, congratulation Sungha, you deserve it :)
Wow.. them three together.. what a great moment.. wonderfull session!

Everyone hatin on tommy but his part fit in perfectly especially the improv and the harmonies
Sungha is playing the backup part just like Don Ross did, he was supposed to add percussion at those parts. Stop complaining about his percussion and go to watch the Ebon Coast duet of Andy and Don Ross people!
Three of the best guitarists in the world, in one room.

Tommy made a solo for this song in 40 seconds. He probably has never heard it, and these 2 others have probably practiced for hours on end, and know it by heart. Tommy is the Grand Master Ultra Almighty supreme overlord of guitar!
Facts. Tommy is God of acoustic
i think he played an okay solo although it didn't follow the chords or the flow of the song (because yeah he probably never heard it before), but putting improvising a solo on the spot against playing a piece by heart is comparing apples to oranges.

This guy Sungha is unbelievable. It will be exciting what the world can expect from him when he becomes older. I find it interesting to see that a lot of super guitarists play together already with pleasure with him. They also feel that Sungha will be a guitar hero too in the future.
