I chanced on this channel and thrilled to do this. First, I live this sonata, and second - what a fabulous performance from this young pianist of whom I have never before heard. So expressive and energetic with every nuance of the music - and some wonderful phrasing! 👌

Captivating? Amen to that!!! I can't stop listening to this incredibly beautiful, spontaneous, highly musical interpretation. I listened to some other Haydn selections from my CD collection . . . they sounded mechanical compared to this performance. Were they playing with a metronome??? Should we circulate a petition urging Laure Chole to perform more of Haydn? And I suspect that she would also play Beethoven magnificently. By the way, does this make sense? It seems to me that the qualities that inspire her apparently great love for the music of Brahms are the same qualities that manifest in this performance of Haydn -- richness and depth of feeling. Although, while I am no musicologist, I think her performance is also quite true to the classical spirit and the character of Haydn's music. In fact, if the old master is listening from somewhere, I would guess that he is delighted!

Listening a third time . . . what an extraordinary composition! A real gem. By the way, I posted this video on my Facebook page. A musically inclined friend listened to it . . . and spent the rest of the afternoon listening to Haydn symphonies, after being so inspired. Maybe they should give Laure Chole a MacArthur grant with the understanding that she will perform and record lots of Haydn . . . perhaps with some Mozart for good measure . . . (or anything else that inspires her.) But I find this understated composition to be so exquisite . . . I read an account of a performance of his music where Haydn was so overcome with emotion that he had to leave. As he made his departure, Beethoven knelt in front of him and kissed his hands.

@@laurechole865 I just discovered your playing at about 3 AM in Los Angeles, unable to sleep. You have such a wonderful gift! I hope you will enjoy a wonderful career. And thanks to RUclips for allowing me to discover you! I should write something in French, mais je suis trop paresseux! Take good care of your hands! My late Zen teacher would have appreciated your playing, since you totally become the music, yourself. I wish you the very best. Please bring lots of beauty and inspiration to this troubled world -- I believe that was also Haydn's motivation -- he said that life can be hard, so he was glad if he could lift peoples' spirits.

@@laurechole865 Hello (Bonjour) Laure -- Very kind of you to respond to my message. I listened to the Haydn Sonata again -- wondering if my first response, around 3AM, was excessive? However, listening a second time, I was even more impressed by the beauty of your playing. So then I thought, perhaps she has a special affinity for Haydn? And also, that I would very much like to hear you play Mozart and Beethoven. However, then I listened to your performance at the Worldvision contest in 2021 -- I am not sure who the composer was (could you tell me?), and your performance of Rachmaninoff (I also enjoyed the Brahms). I reached the conclusion that you are just deeply devoted to the music, and that you have a wonderful gift for getting "inside" of the composer's deepest musical intentions or inspiration. I would add that sometimes your playing strikes me as being downright magical, as well as deeply moving. Going back to Haydn, it seems to me that you could become well known as a champion of his music, since you convey the spirit so well. I don't know that much about the overall musical world, but I think Haydn always deserves more attention. But then I found that your performance of Rachmaninoff was also absolutely stunning. I don't know his music very well at all, but I believe you opened some new musical horizons for me! OK, I think this will become embarrassing for both me and for you if I go on and on like this, but I do think that the quality of your playing is quite remarkable and rare. It leads me to suspect that, in addition to being such an excellent musician, you have very good human qualities, as well (including sending appreciative messages to one of your fans . . . ) Anyway, the news in our world (including in American politics) is extremely depressing these days, so I appreciate making the discovery (thanks to RUclips!) of such beautiful, pure, heartfelt musical expression -- along with your technical mastery. I don't know what it is like, making your career as a professional musician, but I hope (and trust) you will remain true to your genuine inspiration. And I certainly hope to hear more of your playing!! If more of your performances become available on RUclips, would that be beneficial for your career? (I don't know how the music business works now -- I am just an old guy with a large collection of CDs.) But one way or another, you have so much to give, and I believe that many people in our world will be happy to hear your playing! And one more thing about the Haydn -- the slow movement was so poignant -- it made me wonder if some film director might hear that and choose to use it to accompany some very touching scene in a film? I hope that is a compliment, for a classical performer! But I found it very moving and beautiful -- worthy of Haydn's friend, Mozart. Meanwhile, if people hear more of your playing on RUclips, would that help fill the seats when you give a concert or a recital? (Have you had the opportunity to play any Mozart Concertos?) OK -- Ca suffit!!
