This episode is what made this anime adaptation worth it for me. 90% of the episode is anime original, as it was just a short scene at the lab in the VN, but they did an amazing job at expanding on it.
This episode is sooooo good. But I still can't decide which one did it better, the anime or the VN. In the VN we spend HOURS without getting to see Kurisu and when we're finally thrown back into a world she's still in, we only get to see her for at most 10 minutes before getting yanked back into the many worldlines she isn't in anymore and that brief encounter HURTS. In the anime we do spend an entire episode with her and its so good with a lot of stuff that wasn't in the VN also.
Something cool to note at 4:26 is that image has a reference to another entry in the series Steins;Gate is a part of. Yuki is wearing a cosplay of FES, an in-universe singer originally from the first entry in the series, Chaos;Head NoAH who sings many of the EDs throughout the SciADV series. Fubuki and Kaede are also wearing the uniforms that belonged to Suimei Academy, the school that the protagonist of Chaos;Head NoAH went to.
Could you tell me where C;H is in relation to S;G? Like are they actually set in the same universe? I already know Robotics has S;G characters so the relation is clear.
@@LckD008 Chaos;Head NoAH's events occur one year before Steins;Gate in-universe and the visual novel also released before the Steins;Gate visual novel being the first entry in the series. In the original VN Daru makes a remark about how someone named Neidhardt tried searching for the IBN and Okabe brings up how Kurisu's threats remind him of the New Gen Madness that occured prior to S;G. Also the technology Kurisu used to create the time leap machine was already introduced during the events of C;HN.
There is more out there! To watch, there's the movie (Steins;Gate Load Region of Deja Vu), which came out after the Steins;Gate anime but before Steins;Gate 0. There's also spinoff visual novels: One purely romantic one (Steins;Gate My Darling's Embrace) and one that's an anthology of several short stories from different worldlines and character perspectives (Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram) And of course, Steins;Gate is part two of a larger series called Science Adventure. It's kind of like the MCU where there are subseries with different tones and focuses, but they are all part of the same universe.
Ah, the pain of seeing Kurisu again. Just because of your last ep's reaction I had to watch the whole 0 series again in that week. The sorrow in this ep is real and I feel it with you both.
The Visual Novels are definitely worth it, especially the one for 0 since it helps you understand how and why things are happening. There is an upcoming visual novel in the works called Steins;??? (second part of the title isn't revealed yet) which is basically a sequal but with a different main cast.
@@vijayrajput-n5g What part do you want explained? The visual novel for Steins Gate 0 is a branching story with 2 branches that are vastly different from eachother that both further branches out into different endings. The anime kinda compresses these different timelines into a single timeline which is understandable from an anime perspective but it also makes stuff make less sense. They did a decent job a patching the holes caused by this but there was a bunch of stuff I didn't get until I read the visual novel.
@@barghest8763 They all take place in the same universe (not nececarily the same worldline) and they usually have references to earlier entries. There are small things that connect the different titels like how the VR technology that Kurisu use to digitize memories was first established in chaos;head but the main connection is the existance of "the commitee of 300" which is the mysterious organisation that sern reports to. aka "the organisation". Chaos;Head establishes a lot of stuff that's relevant to the rest of the entries so it's a shame that the anime adaptation completely butchered it.
if you play the game, I suggest the original steins gate visual novel rather than the newer version, and the steins gate 0 visual novel is mindboggling but also pretty amazing. There's also a steins gate visual novel that focuses more on the dating and romance.
The original VN gave me a much deeper appreciation of the characters, particularly Faris and Okabe. You also get a LOT more story with the different endings, so it's highly worth it!
5:56 it's hinted here that in this (beta) world line, Okabe and his team were the ones that invented GPS. Probably to track Mayuri down in case they lost sight of her and Okabe not knowing anything about it is basically what made it clear for Kurisu that the Okabe she's talking to isn't the Okabe she knew but someone who's from a different world line
19:10 was such a good perspective what kurisu did was ensure that her death was her action so that her beloved okabe gets to live in a world where he didnt decide the outcome of it all which was a big source of his stress the fact that he is forced to play god and decide who gets to live and who doesnt
Yall before i even skip the ad to watch the vid i already know im gonna cry again. This episode hits way to hard, Lydia by Zwei is such an amazing song. Edit: I cried again. I sincerely appreciate you two, AutoSave.
The reason why Okabe returns to the Alpha line (SERN dystopia) is because, precisely, SERN had taken control of Amadeus. That would provide the theoretical knowledge to build the time machine. It's not because of the earthquake in Russia or anything like that.
This feels like the first episode of S;G0 on the level of quality as the original series. Straight up fantastic, and most of it original content. Like Ben said, it's _SO_ hard to make a retcon that fits established lore and builds on it in such a loving and respectful way. Best example that comes to mind is the Outer Wilds DLC (Echoes of the Eye).
The final scene at the end of the manga version of Steins Gate (aishin mezu no babel) is indrectly about this scene.... And is absolutly heartbreaking 💔
The S;G0 VN is absolutely amazing and the anime leaves out so much vital content, but this episode... THIS EPISODE is a must watch for everyone! As others have said, this was just a short scene in the lab in the VN, but they made a whole phenomenal episode out of it here! I've seen this episode multiple times, but I still almost cried, and I rarely cry at media.
9:06 SERN hacked Amadeus to have access to knowing the time travel theories from Kurisu's memories. Since, SERN's dystopia is not possible on beta worldlines, the divergence broke and the the worldline which actually has SERN's dystopia activates. That's why Okabe feels worldline change.
oh, you must play the novels! (not elite versions though :D) for steins gate zero especially. sure the anime has got some amazing heights (like this episode) but overall it's quite a tame adaptation because they tried to conform it to what format the original steins gate was.. which zero is not. you'll see when you'll play the novels, they are both amazing. man this episode...!
