This just sounds too good to be true, it's as good as their promo demo if not better. The only part of this recording that gives it away as being live are Danny's vocals
@@jordanzinser8248 Yeah good observation, this recording is insanely packed with details even for Oingo Boingo standards. The keyboard and brass are really top of the line on this live performance, coincidentally those two are frequently the "lost" instruments on Oingo Boingo's bootlegs. Thankfully the recordings on Urgh! were overlooked by a bunch of passionate professionals out to document the musical gold rush of alternative rock.
@@jacktheripperlover dear commenter, as native Angeleno and first wave punk I can tell you the whiskey has AMAZING acoustics that will change according to how many people were there and on what level. Those shows were a lot like attending studio sessions. If you ever get a chance to see a band you like at the whiskey I’d recommend it. It will be crowded and claustrophobic but it has great sound. Also recommended for similar effects - HOUSE OF BLUES SUNSET BL.
I always liked the live version of this one compared to the recording on the Forbidden Zone soundtrack. A far better recording than my dad made off the radio when they broadcast from the Whisky. However, my dad's recording did feature the blooper that preceded this recording, when they started in the wrong key lol.
Cool photo a favorite what’s name of fill in drummer? I forget what happened to Vatos. The band commented on it while I was in line at Tower Records for farewell signing surreal.
@@rootbeer5356 Nope, that's David Eagle on the KROQ show. During the month in '80 when Vatos temporarily left. I believe that might've been David's last show.
@Root Beer This show was August 17th, 1980. So a little over a month then. The playing on both is clearly not Vatos, it's busier and has a different pocket.
that oingo sure can boingo

The horns are a lot more prevalent, too.

That synth is so fucking good
Agreed, wish I knew what kind it was though
Well this is my new favorite version of Forbidden Zone
Me too!!
These guys were always so tight live, just amazing.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT, that sounds incredible.
This doesn’t even sound Live, they were so tight as a band. Fuckkkkkkk
They were lightning!
Imagine a studio recording of this version though... 😍
this sounds like it could be a studio live album track honestly

this version would be PERFECT if it had the backing vocals on the bridge with the phaser, that with that synth would be absolutely insane

David Eagle, he played with them in 1980 when Vatos left for a month but came back
Robb’s/hatch! New found mad respect and props to them. Wonder why they left band?
Wow do you have the whole show? Shame there isn't anything with Vatos from this era of this quality.
Yes and will be posting full shows soon as I can in coming months!
The KROQ show has Vatos on it and that sounds equally as fantastic

@@colewoodard8920 Well the KROQ show was in October. And this was in April and seeing as he only lasted a month. Vatos is definitely on that recording
