- Replaced front shocks on 2013 Mazda 5 with KYB 334700, and 334701. Old shocks had 125k miles on them, definitely needed some new ones... Please seek professional help if you need work done on your vehicle, this is just footage of me working on my own vehicle. Any repair or modification you perform to your vehicle are made at your own risk.
Gr8 vids! I like how you summarize before you start. Then show torque specs. Nice job and thanks for posting!
Excellent video! Meant for a new mechanic. I am experienced, but I still watch these videos. Someone always finds a trick even a certified mechanic doesn't know. For example, instead of driving the strut out of the knuckle, you can put a 2x4 across the wheel studs and push with your foot, the strut will come right out
A few tips after doing this for the first time. Use a bottle jack flush up against the pole to get it off instead of banging with a mallet. It was the only way off for me. Use some wd-40 to help get it loose too.
If you do not have a floor jack you can use the scissor jack that came with your car to lift the brake back into place. There is a small circle behind the brake rotor where you can lift it up and it won't slip off as easily. If it won't go in after lifting, pull or push on the rotor to align it and it will then slide right into place.
Thanks so much for the comprehensive video. I need to do the front shocks on my premacy and now I know how. I appreciate the effort put into your video and that fact you point out important alignment tabs.
Keep up the good work 👌
Nice video. One thing I like to do is write the date in permanent marker on the struts and shocks. That way, you or someone else knows when it got replaced. I also note the date and mileage in a notepad for all repairs and maintenance i do on my cars since I rarely have a service center work on my cars.
Btw the manual calls for you to use an chisel to separate the lower fork. Less than 2 mm not to damage it
Gonna have to do this in freezing cold. No garage for me. Thanks for the video.
Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to make it! Used it on my iPad in my garage to do the struts on my wife's Mazda and it was PERFECT! Cheers! 🙂
Appreciate you putting this video together. You made it look so easy. 😮💨
Thank you! I just did the rear shocks today and now need to do the fronts. This video covered all of my concerns. I don’t have a floor jack like that one so hopefully I can rent one wherever I get the spring compressors.
About to start on our van, one of ours has bit the dust. This is an excellent video - superb work!!!
No need to use hammer to get it lose. Just use 2 quarters in between the gap and thread the bolt on the opposite side , that way it will expand a little bit and the strut will come lose.
You mean screw bolt onto the coins to push open the joint?
Exactly! It took me a while after putting grease on the strut and trying to shimmy it in. Then I thought, what if I put a mending plate (3 to 6 inches) in the crack and pushed the screw against it. Voila! Works like a charm. I save my quarters for meter parking 😄.
Thank you , it’s definitely a big help before I do mine 👍
Thanks for making this video, appreciate the effort!
Thank you for the torque specs!
Thank you Tom Hung for watching, I try to mention torque specs in the videos when I remember too lol thanks again 👍🏽
For a little more u can buy the whole assemble. Sometimes the upper mounts go bad too. About 110 a piece. Save time too
I was wondering that as well, why not just buy the whole assembly ?
@@rickduque5799Quickstruts are worse quality than OEM or good aftermarket shocks like Koni or Bilstein.
@@chrisbradley3224correct.... Koni, Bilstein, KYB
Might be doing this project soon... this video is very helpful
Thanks for the video. Super helpful. Do you have to do a front end alignment after replacing the struts?
Awesome work your really good hope ill be able to get someone to do the work as you did.
This was VERY VERY helpful.
Thank you so much.
Great video, keep up the good job
I Appreciate your comment, thank you 🙏🏽
Great video I paid to get these done next time I will do it myself I have 2008 Mazda 5
Great video. Very well explained
Buen video me gusta muy bien explicado más vídeos para esa mazada gracias
So helpful! Thanks for the video!
awesome my friend saludos desde mexicali y gracias
I didn't have a hammer to take out the old piecebut a 25lb made it come out like butter. A little bit hard to maneuver.
great vid! straight forward. do you need to have a wheel alignment after?
Upon installation and aligning the tab to slot, I had to loosen the top three bolts to get it align. I used Monroe (Shock/Spring replacement) though, so not sure if that will help anyone.
Thanks for the help 👍
Great video. I.m wondering whether my ns 4ear is going bad as I have some outer edge tyre wear. I know tracking could be an issue but I'm sure that's more noticeable 9n the front . What mileage was yours on doing this ? And how did you notice it go bad ? Cheers
What's your respects again on that Center bolt on the top Isn't it should be 56' pounds?
Yes 56lbs for top hat center bolt
Thank you 🙏
Thanks,Nice video
How many miles were on the vehicle when u replaced the parts?
I heard him mention 120K in another video from around the same time
Awesome
👍🤙
Greetings Saravy Phim! Thanks for the thumbs up, thanks for watching!
Bro thanks !!!
Mazda 5 but the caliper is branded FoMoCo (Ford Motor Company). Hmmm
👍
That is truly shocking how bad that shock was😂
.
THEY ARE STRUTS, NOT SHOCKS.
