I remember that bcast. I saw the Original Animals in '83 (The Ark LP Tour in DC: front row in front of Chas, little red dots on his arms, bloodshot eyes & Eric wearing a grey sweatshirt w/o sleeves but w/a red, Japanese flag 'dot' in the center & screaming at that microphone! Hilton Valentine- the orignl guitarist had said in an interview: he'd taken a lot of acid through the 70s & basically had to relearn how to PLAY THE GUITAR! They were augmented by Eric's pal Steve Grant on most leads, Zoot Money on extra keyboards & some percussion & they were great. The encore was House Of The Rising Sun & ONLY THE 5 ORIGINAL MEMBERS DID IT ALL. PERFECTLY. Now, the Wax Museum (DC) is a fkg parking lot! There was NO bad seat in the venue, no obstructed view unless it's seated in front of you and stood up just to be a d*k. If you like David Johansen, look up an interesting film w/him, Tom Waits, et al- Candy Mountain (& go out & get you a Silk, yeah Elmore Silk made the finest guitars... Thanks for this one.
Yeah, I recall reading that when they recorded The Ark, Hilton Valentine and Chas Chandler both had to use borrowed gear in the studio, because they had both quit playing music some years earlier.
My Goodness, Magnificent Cover💕DAVID I’m proud 300%💋WOUAH HHH🔥🔥🎶Jon B. always Perfect and the duet with Burdon is👍🏿tree différents voices for tree performers‼️💕
Very Cool Guy! It’s a shame they never released David Johansen “Live It Up” in a full video/DVD release. His band and that performance was in my opinion, his Best... as good as Eric Burdon
Just listening that album and marveling at how tight that band was. I listened to Melody over and over. Will always remember David doing a show with Henny Youngman opening... epic
saw him open around this time, for Joan Jett, in a'' dirty old part of the city'' of Boston .it was referred to as the' 'Combat zone'. porn shops and strip bars. so those lyrics took on an irony. the Opera House. now, it's refurbished, as well as that part of the city.
I was there too! March 1st, 1985! I still have my ticket stub from that concert! I got Joan Jett to sign my "I Love Rock 'n Roll" album the next day at Strawberries Records in Medford! Still have the album too! Wow! Small world!
I'll bet some ears were ringing at that Strawberries@@jdjccs74 DJ's live version of 'Big Trouble' tore the studio one to shreds. and you might remember for 'Cherry Bomb' the Bleackhearts either blew something up, or used a sound effect that, well, made a cherry bomb sound like a footstomp. VERY loud. glad you could make it. great nite! thanx for the date. 3/1/85. wish it was on YT.
David JoHansen, me, I just luv when he sings. I preferred when he did singing with the Dolls mark I and II. But with his band and his blues band, it's good singing too.
@@tonym994 You're absolutely right. Apart for one thing. Mr Jo Hansen is not top 50.He's top ten. Sure, for nowadays, he's a non trained street level singer. But he's, often, so expressive and so personal, it's a pleasure to listen to him singing. The only weak thing he got as a singer is that sometimes he's yelling out of pitch{Per. Crisis) But, when he does it right like the Animals medley, he's one of the best. And the other thing that put him above the crowd, it's his lyrics. He's so tongue in cheek, he's great.
I had to be sure I wasn't 'typing' to the Mgr of BADFINGER & I feel safe that it's a very different lineage after I checked the names! Okay. That Band was always tight! Will Lee, Steve Jordan, Hiram, Paul - THEY could be the Band Mick Jagger calls going out on the road for a National Tour or two, three .. Read the Liner notes to Cyndi Lauper's 1st LP! Anton F & Will Lee - I think had a lot to do w/the great Sessions & she was/is a real Vocalist. I watch this Animals' medley for a short reminder of what I saw from the front row at the Wax Museum in DC '83 for The Ark Tour w/Eric B screaming in the Mic, not losing a note, pitch, ... He was going for it in a sleeveless sweatshirt w/the red dot/Japanese Flag on the front & the encore was JUST The Original ANIMALS' House Of The Rising Sun.👍 I drove to Pittsburgh for The Next night at The Stanley Theater. too .🤔 Sorry! I repeated myself due to the thrill of the Johansen medley & the Same JOY the Band got doing it!
He opened for The Who in 1982. This song was very hot at the time. It was an amazing night. The Who killed it too.
Wnew-fm 102.7 used to play this medley all the time.
Hiram Bullock on guitar died July 25 2008. Carl D'Errico who wrote It's My Life later co-wrote with him one of David's best songs: POET'S CAFE
Jam, David Johanson is a real rocker. Paul Shafer & that House Band could roll with anyone.

That show is awesome

Did they actually film the concerts that Live It Up was taken from?
Staten Islands own David Johansen the only one who can pull off an animals medley ...NY Dolls The fathers of Glam/Punk
I forgot Johansen was from the County of Richmond, NYC
yep Stephen he went to Port Richmond H.S
Love David Johansen. .He's a living legend.
Someone should get Eric Burdon to record IN MY OWN TIME.
What he didn't have was a 'Silk'; that's what held him back

unfortunately, these 'great guitarist' lists outnumber great vocalist lists. But Johanssen is in the top 50 ever.

Great cover!
Mr. Nanny brought me here. Thanatos decided to imitate a punk guy, kool!
Such a forgotten bad movie. Had the VHS way back when, and was my first experience to Johansen. Insane movie!
It's still weird to see him look "normal". He's always 70s glam or Buster Pointdexter to me.
How many times had Johansen reinvented himself. The Dolls,David Johansen, Hollywood actor then Buster Poindexter.
And his blues band The Harry Smiths!
I’m thinking four times.
Hi there - I believe I was on this episode with my dog for stupid pet tricks - do you have the entire episode?? can we connect?
GOOD LUCK! hope y' find it! huge Letterman fan here.
Sorry, just have the music. I only recorded the bands on the Letterman show.
@@stephenpolly2793 Thanks for getting back to me! At least I've narrowed down the show date.. I had forgotten - thanks.
Paul looks like hes having a ball
He always did! He got off on backing up all these great musicians who came on the show.
Sound like eric burdon
Dolls Rock
Great ren9. But the guitar track sucks
