My son got bitten by a deer tick in America 20 years ago and became ill with flu like symptoms. He was referred to a medical centre and they immediately recognised that it was Lymes disease which was confirmed with a blood analysis. He was put on a course of special antibiotics and gradually got better. If it's not recognised and left too late it can cause death. These ticks that cause it are in the UK as well.
