- Hey y'all! Usually I post these up as Patreon exclusive content, but I've decided to post a couple of these of older videos on here to serve as a couple of extra videos AND to give people a taste of my Patreon. I post weekly uncut versions like this, where I cut out none of (or just small bits of) the songs in order to not interrupt the songs for y'all. The reason I have to cut them out in videos on my main channel is because using large chunks of the content results in my videos getting demonetised or blocked. Since this is my sole source of income, I need to make sure that doesn't happen! Haha

“Why does this character get all the weird songs?”
Boy he wrote it and does it to himself 😂
To be fair he wrote the music, but didn’t cast or write the show 😂
My favorite part is the meta of the ending. Emma is not the actress. Emma is terrified during the last song obviously, but she is still terrified during the credits. The audience is clapping as she breaks down, and it's just so unsettling seeing it all unfold
I know! its sad he didn't watch the credits. hopefully he at least went back to watch it after seeing people mention it.
The best part is the moment she knew paul truly turn and wasn't just pretending when he started to sing show stopping number as he would've never heard all of it since he wasn't there till he saved Ted and Emma
"WHY ARE YOU CLAPPING?!"
Lauren just slayed that part
"WHY ARE YOU CLAPPING" 😂😂😂✨ poor Emma, even the Apotheosis is upon the public 😱🙈...
Long haired guy having all the weird roles is extra funny when you know he wrote the show
he wrote the songs. Nick Lang wrote the story. although he did write a whole Starkid show before. it the Trail To Oregon musical.
'long haired guy' BAHAHHAHA THAT IS THE BEST NAME FOR JEFF BLIM
@@HelloXrancidkitteh And that's why they were "a buncha fucken farmers" in that one
@@cobwebinthecorneromg yes the fact that he’s like “well honey I wrote the show” 😂😂
@@HelloXrancidkittehdo they both still work on it or is Jeff the one doing the hatchet field stuff recently
There was a thing I didn't really think about until someone had pointed it out, but in the last song Emma only starts hysterically screaming at 'show stopping number' because that was the one song she knows Paul wasn't there for, so it confirms it for her that that isn't Paul anymore and he's apart of the hive mind.
Man.
Oh i've never noticed before, jfc. That is terrifying
i never thought of that before
You sure it has nothing to do with the fact that more of the hive mind showed up and had her surrounded
@@samdowd1444No, because all the cast were already on stage well before that point. No other reason for her to lose her shit specifically at "Show Stopping Number"
1. I'm so glad Corey was the first one who's voice you commented on. He's criminally underappreciated.
2. The guy with long hair, Jeff Blim, is an eldritch creature of chaos. And vibes.
3. "Hot damn, that's a cool line. Wow." Welcome to Starkid. Nick and Matt Lang, the writers, are geniuses.
4. Ted's "There are no creeps" monologue is amazing.
a very apped describtion of jeff . . . he terrefies me, but he also is kinda amazing in antagonistic roles
😂😂😂
fun fact: the actress playing alice/the greenpeace girl actually went on to play regina on the mean girls broadway musical!!
She gives me Regina energy
Funner Fact: I actually saw her during the tour of that show. Only problem is, I didn’t even watch TGWDLM until a month after I saw her! Worst of all, I actually went to a meet and greet after the show with her and I couldn’t say how awesome she was in TGWDLM 😭😭😭
She was in the touring company, not Broadway.
WAIT WHAT?!?!?!
fun fact! Ted Spankoffski has a little brother in canon, Peter Spankoffski! he's a highschool kid, and well. he's also known as the Hot Chocolate kid. so, during the scene where Ted was yelling at Bill to accept the loss of Bill's daughter, that was probably him coping with the fact that his little brother, his teenage brother Pete, is also dead :)
OMG I DIDNT REALISE THAT TED’S LAST NAME WAS SPANKOFFSKI :O
I didn’t register that Ted was a Spankoffski until now, holy shit-
More importantly, that means Ted's dad sells women's shoes
nobody ever talks about how Jon would have had basically no warming up time, just to hit those HIGH HIGH notes in a end song
REAL
i feel like no one ever talks about how nicely they introduce the characters in this. having charlotte answer the phone and say her name is super cool :)
i know they say sam's name right as he first appears, but i always found it cool that whilst on the phone, charlotte repeatedly says his name and mentions a precinct, so when we see a cop (since the other cops don't appear until the song) we go "oh, that must be sam" even before they say his name. and having emma complain abt her coworkers is such a natural way to work their names into the script and still have it feel natural. they're so so so good at making everything flow nicely like that!
@@gr1mreap3rz15makes it feel more real to me
Yeah. As someone who struggles with learning/memorizing character names, it's really helpful
And that’s writing valuable dialogue for you :p Plenty of beginner screenwriters and fic writers fail to highlight the important ideas they want to get across, but get swamped in trying to balance in humour and other… business. I’m one of em stil heh
"why do they keep giving this guy all the weird songs?"
Lmfao he's who wrote the songs. But he's so good at the bizarro stuff. He's called a chaos gremlin in the fandom lol
What can I say? We love our lil chaos gremlin
If I write my own show of anything then I'm giving myself the crazy roles
@@GamerGrovyle I was watched the AVPM rewatch last night and Brian said he didn't think anyone but Darren should have played Harry because if he wasn't the one playing Harry he probably wouldn't have written some of the joke songs that he made just because he knew it was for him...
and I feel like it's probably the same for Jeff
@@GamerGrovyle Like a true theater kid
@@GamerGrovyleof course, cause only you can absolutely nail the level of chaos you want in those parts
I'd like to mention, when Paul sings Show Stopping Number in Inevitable: That's when Emma screams because thats a song she KNEW Paul never heard, he couldn't have been faking it if Hidgens and Ted are both dead meaning he couldn't have gotten it from anywhere except the hivemind
Another fun thing that I've seen pointed out is that the aliens can only assimilate someone after they've found out what they want.
They ask Paul what he wants, then they get Charlotte after she prays for a chance with her husband, Bill when he wants to bring his daughter back, Hidgens when he wants to join them, etc.
@@thegreatandterrible4508Emma just wanted to not die in Hatchetfield
So they're like 'bet' and she dies in Clivesdale instead
@@aceofpentacles2k a happy ending
Also, FYI, Starkid does not issue takedowns or copyright strikes for anything that they put on RUclips already. Only things they care about are the specials that aren't on RUclips, so you're free to react without worry!
This video is most definitely demonetised haha. I had a lot of claims on the one on my main channel, had to edit it very heavily. But strikes aren't regular claims/demonetisation
@@MetaHewGames oh, yeah. It's not gonna be monetized. But they won't do anything worse than that.
@@MetaHewGames honestly I’m glad they get their money as they were the ones that made the musical
“they’re kinda moving like zombies is this intentional?”
*smiles*
The fact that Ted says "My Wife!" as a joke bc Joey and Lauren have been together for ages will never not be the best thing ever; especially when you learn that Ted didn't even MEAN her XD
Oh it’s so creepy to rewatch.. just recognising all the characters and knowing how it’s gonna end…….
It was literally inevitable, the whole musical is the story told BY them, about the Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, in _past_ tense.
It _is_ extremely terrifying, if you think about the implications.
Oh my god! I didn’t think about the implications!
"I'm so ready for the coworkers to sing later"
ARE YOU??? 😭😭
Huh ig he was!
8:45 you might have missed it but paul isn't just a random coworker! bill said paul used to babysit and alice thought he was cool
have fun keeping up with the lore of this universe!
in order:
- the guy who didn't like musicals
- black friday
- nightmare time s1 & s2
- nerdy prudes must die
all of them are connected to each other in a way you'll not expect!
Now that Nerdy Prudes Must Die is out, I kinda wanna see this guys reaction to that sheer insanity…
@@shinypikagaming SAME!! i fucking love it
I honestly hope he reacts to the whole hatchetfield universe
Even in TGWDLM they mention grace chastity, nerdy prudes, and nightmare time
@@Ace-dc1lbI know it’s wildly cool
Professor Higdens was completely human during his musical number. I love it.
There’s a fan theory, can’t remember if it’s been confirmed or not, that this entire musical is really just the aliens telling the story of how they took over. At the beginning they’re singing and Emma’s there saying Paul fell for a barista foreshadowing she dies later in the musical (as we see at the end).
Also, the actors who played Charlotte and Ted did a Starkid musical about genitals and sex years ago (Me and My Dick) so I imagine their scenes together in this one was like a trip down memory lane for them.
i mean, yeah - it's not really a theory, i'm almost 100% sure it is actually confirmed - even the ending, in the credits, they go meta with it by revealing the audience to "emma", which heavily leans into that idea.
also, they predicted show stopping number! "and he fell for a little barista, isn't that a show-stopping fiesta?"
I mean its probably confirmed, see how in the beggining number they sang "The Guy Who **Didn't** Like Musicals" and not "The Guy Who **Doesn't** Like Musicals"
@@oburci9596 Ohhhh good point! I didn't notice that before.
I like this theory but I also like the theory that it happens right before Paul enters the theatre to blow up the meteorite. The aliens repeat the same wording (who's coming, he's a coming, Pauls coming). It explains why Paul isn't happy and singing and doesn't arrive on cue. Maybe it isn't actually Emma at that point, but a lookalike?
"OH MY GOD HIS BRAIN FELL OUT!"
"Well, put it back!!"
I'm never getting over that exchange
I wish you’d been able to see the credits! Reactors usually miss that for this musical but it’s so creepy and terrifying
Yes! They miss the true ending! Wish the reactors would just stay a lil bit longer to see the true horror. The true implication....
@@nialsynoroc9293ARE YOU THINKING OF THE IMPLICATIONS, EMMA
@@rosykindbunny1313I DIDNT THINK ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS!!!

buggette obviously

The reason Paul gets infected is because he has a motive which is to kill the aliens which is what they were trying to get him to do with the what do you want song
so it only infects people who want something?
@@seignee hardly “only” (given the _hard majority_ of people want something, doesn’t matter what), but it does seem to make it significantly easier.
Oh! In La Dee Da Da Day, both the Greenpeace girl and homeless man say something about “wanting” as well! She asks if Paul wants to save the planet (which also might be why she’s infected, even if she wasn’t at the theatre)
You missed the end, where they did the cast bow and Emma is screaming for help!
OH MY GOD ITS SO COOL THAT THEY MENTION GRACE CHASITY FROM THE RECENT "Prudy Nerds Must Die" PRODUCTION!! I absolutely love the parellels in the recent musical they did and how far back they are- definitely recommend it
NPMD isn’t my favourite since not many songs aren’t as catchy as Black Friday and TGWDLM, but the choreo from Lauren is genuinely bomb
(NPMD SPOILERS...?)
and how the guy that was complaining about his hot choco turned out to be pete too 😭
I hope you got to see Nightmare Time :D!
Oh man, every time you paused and said the show was weird/surreal I had to take a moment to reevaluate my life because this is totally normal, mainstream storytelling to me. More than half of my favorite things are /significantly/ weirder and harder to understand than this.
this exactly. i'm not sure if it's because i'm so used to starkid's storytelling in particular, but the pacing and weird directions they take, while still surprising, not that unusual
You should see Twisted by Starkid. It is even funnier than this one.
YES TWISTED IS SO GOOD
Yeah, a lot of people say Twisted is the best Starkid musical
Agreed. Twisted is their magnum opus.
YES
I’m not sure I agree that it’s funnier (or better), but it’s certainly worth checking out!
There’s nothing I love more than seeing people discover Starkid musicals☺️
STRAIGHT FACTS
Everytime I see this I'm reminded of the horror of how fast I'd be gone if this was a real thing. You cant even get me to not dance from random background music, if you sing at me on a normal day I'm joining in. R.i.P me
"Not Your Seed" comes fully out of nowhere to rip out your goddamn heart, whisper disappointments into it, then hand it back to you.
Actually, Jeff Blim (the long haired weird song guy) wrote all or at least most of the Music to Tgwdlm and a lot of other starkid Shows.
Also Mariah Rose Faith (the girl with the incredible Voice) played Regina George in the Touring Company of Mean Girls after Tgwdlm
Aaaalso, Robert Manion (the chocolate Boy and the Professor) has also one of the most recognisable voices in Starkid, he´s so good!
Last one is just bias
A really sad thought that comes to me is that when alien alice picked up the gun, bill probably saw it, and knew his fate before she shot him, and he let it happen
During join us and die, when they approach Bill, you can hear Paul screaming for Bill to run and Emma screaming that he has a daughter 😭❤️
the reason you like Ted so much despite him being a terrible person is that he is played Joey Richter one of the most charismatic and endearing people out there . . .
The “My wife” line has new meaning with Lauren and Joey now married
literally during the height of my sk phase, after having the songs constantly stuck in my head, this video comes out.
3:52 jeff blim is ALWAYS a vibe
9:12 i too was (and am) a loyal ted stan since the first facial expression
39:25 he wrote all the songs! he's gonna want to have fun with the ones he gets to sing 😂
If you liked this, I really recommend Twisted. It's a combination of Wicked, Aladdin, and Starkid's own blend of crazy.
You talked about how the transition music is subtle and I wanted to point out that there is none in the beginning. It only shows up after the meteor has hit, which I think is brilliant.
Noooo don't skip the applause! It's part of the show! Emma goes full 4th wall break and it's great
It's so funny watching Ted and Emma pick at each other, since they're married irl
technically they're still engaged, they're getting married in july, i believe!
@leila middleton Awesome!, so glad to hear it
Fun fact: future Starkidz stuff takes place in Hatchetville lore. There’s a few sinister eldrtich monsters out there. One of them is named “Pokotho, the Singular Voice.” Or “Sing-Along Pokey".
1:06:00 the reason Ted is so upset is cuz his little brother goes to hatchetfield high and he’s realizing that he’s probably dead.
Omg, who is his little brother? Where is that mentioned??
@@bl4ck_gold542 Ted is Ted spankoffski, he’s Peter’s (NPMD) older brother this is established in nightmare time
@@holdmyteaimbusyscreeching6135 oh wow that’s hilarious, I love that sm! Thanks for the info
It took me a second or third watch to REALLY love tgwdlm, just because it was very different from their other shows. If you liked Jeff (the long haired guy), definitely recommend Trail to Oregon, it’s my favorite show. But yeah this show is wacky and weird in probably the best ways
strong vouch for trail to oregon, it's so underrated
Honestly, most of their shows have their own respective vibes that makes it so that you wanna rewatch them all for specific moods 😂
I got into Starkid via Twisted, myself. I actually avoided TGWDLM for the longest time because....I have zero idea why. I watched Starship and Trail and finally said screw it and watched TGWDLM and yea....Hatchetfield fan for life.
you missed the funniest part! at the end when the audience claps n shit emma starts shouting at the audience like "WHY ARE YOU CLAPPING, WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU"
"Why does he keep calling him a king?" Because Professor Hidgens is a King.
Also I love that the whole story is in past tense, it's "The Guy who DIDN'T like musicals."
1:02:10 disappointed that he missed the gold that is "we're gonna kick your ass and we're gonna fucking kick your ass"
oooo this is gonna be great!! i've been wanting to see this for so long!
another chance to rewatch the musical AND seeing his reactions at the same time? a dream come true
edit: also just because I need to say this every time I watch this musical... its actually really unique in the way that the main character does NOT have a want song. they even bring it up directly during "what do you want, paul". that's very unusual! pretty much all musicals define the primary plot at the very start through a "want" song
edit2: they don't just give the long-haired guy (jeff blim) the weirdest songs- he actually WRITES a lot of them himself! in A Very Potter Musical he played a giant man-eating spider and sang "Get in my Mouth", so this is pretty tame still
"why does the long haired guy have all the weird roles" because Jeff Blim lives to play weird characters who work innuendo into /everything/. a prime example being his character in "Twisted".
You should definitely watch the “sequel” to this known as Black Friday. Its the second official musical in the Hatchet field universe they’re kinda building
NPMD is awesome as well
This musical has forever changed the way I say/think the phrases "I need to make a tea with honey", "shut the fuck uuuuup", "oh...GOD no", and "um...fuck you?"
But the real reason why that guy probably has all the weird songs hes because hes basically ensemble which means that in this show he is going to sing mobecause when you have a character that you have to portray and move multiple scenes you can't sing until you're killed That's why Paul and Emma basically have no songs
But the other reason he might have all the weird songs is because He actually wrote all the music for this musical
He likes to take the weirder songs so the others don't have too I think. He likes to take the more embarrassing things and just own them
ok actually!!!!! there is a reason why 'the homeless man' is portrayed that way and its actually a lot deeper than u might think !!! its revealed in a nmt episode called time bastard and its a really cool twist
idk if u want an answer months later but when its an ensemble song, everyone sings it, but if it's only a few people its just them
Paul used to babysit his coworker's kid, she already knows him
Now you gotta watch Nerdy Prudes Must Die. It's quickly become one of my favorite SK production everrr
Talked over the "not a PEIP joke" have to rewind to the beginning and start over.
Also stopped too early!!! Gotta watch the curtain call!
Top 3 Songs
- Join Us And Die (She has some amazing pipes)
- It's a beautiful day.
- Paul vs Aliens.
"it's a beautiful day" is actually lah dee dah dah day, "paul vs aliens" is called let it out :)
For me it's:
1. Not Your Seed (it's what got me interested in the musical)
2. Show Stopping Number (the professor is so funny in that song, and Ted getting immersed in the story of Working Boys is the icing on the cake)
3. Tie between Let It Out and Inevitable (the dreaddddd)
Wish he did Black Friday and/or Nerdy Prudes Must Die. Like this guy's reactions.
You like Ted so much because Joey Richter is brilliant and impossible to dislike
Pescatarian is when you eat fish but no other meat and people never know that
Please please please please PLEEEASE do more Starkid musicals!! They're all great-- wait... they're all: 🎶TOTALLY AWESOME!🎶
I have to recommend the earlier Twisted and Firebringer. They are great. But Everything from this musical onwards is connected. This one, Black Friday and then Nightmare Time is deep lore.
"Yeah... fuck clivesdale" OMG I NEED YOU TO WATCH BLACK FRIDAY AND NPMD.
also the kick your head scene, foreshadows the hive mind and I never realized till now
8:45 i think might you missed it but paul is not a random coworker paul used to babysit and alice thought he was cool
I've watched TGWDLM like 12 times (not a joke) it's so good
Also is this a reupload it fells vary familiar
He released a cut-down and edited version on his main channel, but this is the full, unedited cut. That's why it seems familiar, you've probably seen some of it before!
This is just a random thought I had while watching this, I just realized that Pual says Hey Melissa when he greets her. Which if you have watched the NT reading of Hey Melissa it makes a lot of sense why Paul didn't want to do anything with her.
I love Hey Melissa, did not end how I thought it would but it is 100% the ending I wanted xD
@@smiles4miles825 Right! Honestly Hey Melissa is so underrated and an amazing episode.
I screamed cause this is my favorite musical ever and no one in my life likes musicals
"Why do they keep giving this actor the weirdest parts?"
LOL Cause he wrote the musical.....Blim is having the time of his life just being weird.
You mentioned this reminded you of The Thing, but you should've gone further back. The main inspiration is the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and that movie ends with the main character becoming an alien and the love interest being the sole survivor... Just like this show
the most likely reason the long hair guy sung a lot of songs is cus he wrote them
McNamara getting infected is like one of the saddest parts for me other than the Inevitable General John McNamara is a g****** American hero Which is shown way better in the sequel to this black Friday but I won't really spoil anything
"Why do they keep giving this actor the weirdest songs?"
Because he wrote the show.
“Why do they keep giving this guy the weirdest songs?” (At about 39:30) he’s the one who wrote them lmao
You should wait to the end of the video, there was very funny curtain call! Anyway great reaction, there are few more Starkid musicals you should see, like " Firebringer", "Trail to Oregon" (based on trail to oregon game), "Ani" (if you a star wars fan, it's a star wars parody) and "Me and My Dick" (there are subtitles to every starkind musical, with this one there's slightly worse recording quality so if you watch it definietely use them, but musical is great)
Well I mean, it is titled the "The Guy Who *Didn't* Like Musicals" and not "The Guy Who *Doesn't* Like Musicals"
Funnily enough in Europe a lot of vegetarians do eat fish and when we took our language class trips to Europe we had to specify no fish for the vegetarians in the group because over there it was common to serve vegetarians fish.
i'm european and vegetarian and i have NEVER encountered that. that's a pescatarian diet
now I'm sad you didn't watch the credits, I really like this fourth braking wall joke there
"Vaguely threatening and terrifying" =D
I'm not entirely sure how the infection works but I'm fairly certain the person has to also die at least to be fully infected so it might be that like they're all already infected with spores They're not entirely sure it's just every time we see someone getting infected we also see them get hard murdered before they become part of the apotheosis
“Why’d they give this actor all the weird songs?” It’s cuz he actually wrote and helped choreograph all the songs in most of the musicals
The professor is so Gender ™
Also seeing him makes me realize how homosexual I am.
Who
The professor?
@@megastormy497 I forgot that he was called the professor but yeah I'll fix that

So is he. And Greg. And Steve. And Stu. And Mark, and Leighton. And, most importantly….
Chad.
(But legit it’s canon that Professor Hidgens had this whole unrequited love thing with Chad in Nightmare Time (season one episode 2) Time Bastard. It would be a much more of a thing for me if there weren’t also so Much in that episode to process.)
Seen a couple comments about this so I'm adding onto it, please watch twisted, if you thought this was good then twisted will blow your mind
I want so badly for you to do this with the other Starkid musicals. Continue the Hatchetfield trilogy with Black Friday (the sequel) and Nerdy Prudes Must Die (which just dropped a week ago - October 13, 2023)

YESSS I've watched TGHDLM so many times I'm so glad you watched it
I know this video is really old but I still wanted to mention that while it’s not directly mentioned, based on the blue coloring off the infection, it’s implied that the infection is caused by/the meteor was sent by a Starkid character called “Pokey”. Pokey is short for Pokotho, who is part of a group called The Lords In Black (you learn more about them in other musicals), who make appearances in Black Friday, Honey Queen, Watcher World, Time Bastard, etc.
