The so called Khmer territories in South Vietnam was peacefully ceded to Vietnam by Khmer rulers who asked Vietnam for helps. Most of them were flooded lands that the Khmer didn't live there at the time anyway. Vietnam didn't take them by force. So you only have yourself to blame here.
If the reason was cost, Cambodia is proven stupid here because by using that canal, you won't have to pay for a very low cost going through Vietnam's ports but you still have to pay China for building the canal for at least 50 years. Look at the map, the travel distance to the high sea heading for China will be almost thrice as long because you're gonna have to go around the southern tip of Vietnam. That distance will be twice as long if you go anywhere else. That will increase fuel, maintenance cost and time significantly, so how is that gonna save you anything if it won't cost you even more?! It's not Vietnam, but your stupidity and China's taking advantage of your stupidity that stop you from growing so stop blaming Vietnam.
Mãi sống trong quá khứ nhé pol pot. Khi nào bạn bắt buộc cả thế giới các nước quay về bản đồ cũ thì nói chuyện.🥴
Vietnam didn't seized those lands but part of those was given by Khmer rulers to Vietnam after they asked Vietnam for helps. The Khmer didn't live on most of those areas because they were flooded lands. The other part was given to Vietnam by a Ming Chinese general. There was no war of conquest by Vietnam against Cambodia, but there was a war by Cambodians under Pol Pot against Vietnam trying to rob those lands from Vietnam. Learn some history.
There are no high taxation from Vietnam. Many stupid excuses have been made up to give justification for this stupid project. None of them are true. Cams are hopeless. You've never learnt anything from Pol Pot's lesson. Now you're being used by China again to backstab Vietnam just like him but you just don't have any idea!
Khmer emprie died in 14th century before Vietnam come here . Stop dreaming . Wonder why the Mayar empire was devastated and the Khmer people were devastated ?

I guess it is within the sovereign right of Cambodia to do this; surrounding country/ies, may not like it but it is what it is. this is quite similar to the Ethiopian Dam as contested by Egypt.
Why is Panama canal, Suez canal not a concern to environment ? Same logic right ? Why thus canal is a concern to neighbouring country. Which country ? Vietnam ?
Only western will place negative and biased news on the is projects. It’s freaking awesome for Cambodia.
South Vietnam was Cambodian territory called Khmer Krom which was grabbed by Kinh Vietnamese 1954 right after France withdrew out of Cambodia. The Mekong river runs through Cambodian Khmer Krom out to the south China sea, the Mekong river does not run through Vietnam in the north of parallel 17. No one can complain about the canal.

This report is so one sided. It only talks about the concerns of this project. What about the benefits it could bring to Cambodia. Geopolitical implications? Does pluses out weights the negatives. Cambodia must think benefits far out weigh negatives before launching such a taxing project (compared to their meager GDP). What are these considerations? Such a report only makes one respect aljazeera less and less.

Americans use barges, floating platforms that can carry thousands of tons and are pull by tug boats into shallow rivers. Barges are harder to manuever but the rivers water moves very stable. The hard waves of the ocean can sink, over turn and slowdown the fragile barges which is why cargo ships are used instead.
So these corrupt individual people and politicians wanted to destroy the natural structures of the land feel so bad with those poor Cambodian people affected with that massive project!
