The "goth as a costume" part is way too real and made me laugh. Some drunk normie just recently harassed us at Waffle House after leaving the club insisting we were wearing costumes and wouldn't take no for an answer.
I enjoy these so much thank you to everyone that participated in the video. I said this a couple times on other channels before. I think the way the subculture is now is great for us that are truly a part of it and contribute in it. However the way other people misconstrued it or normal people that just doing it for attention because they want to be edgy on the weekend but still get it wrong is laughable and it still makes me mad to a point. I blame social media and the mainstream media to some degree for their bad or misinformation. Most importantly is the people in the subculture back in the day with gatekeeping and elitism if we were to help the younger generation like we do now we wouldn't have this problem. Technically we created our worst enemy but that's just my opinion and what I think.
I'm going to say here what I planned to say when the mic died the second time after the first reboot. I ended up rebooting twice and going through 3 headsets. I am a mod in r/goth and have been doing it about a year. I was brought in so we had someone available in the "Australian" timeslot to hopefully have a mod online at all times. At first we were redirecting fashion stuff to r/gothstyle but it became overrun with onlyfans spammers and a lot of the posted outfits weren't even close to goth. So we had r/gothfashion revived and we run it the way we wanted it as a sister sub to r/goth alongside other subs like r/darklyinclined, r/gothclub (it is a lot more open with music genres than r/goth is), r/gothmemes (because of course I'm a mod there) and r/gothlifestyle. This one was created as a bit of a joke but r/randomblackobjects is also a thing inspired by the infamous #pillowgate incident in r/goth. To r/gothstyle's credit they have cleaned their sub up a lot and the new mods do a good job.
i think ironically inflation, more expensive housing etc helps ¨real¨ goth grow, because poverty always pushes DIY fashion. if you have trouble paying for food or houses, yer not gonna waste 50 bucks on killstar crap, yer just going to make it yourself.
