    I always enjoy watching silage videos takes me back to teenage years when we had cattle. I liked the 8 min mark watching every wagon wiggle up and down as it unloaded

    I agree with the silo over the bags that you buy and destroy them to empty. We had Harvester's which some are afraid of the bottom unloader. If you pull them and service them in the off season, you rarely have trouble. Short arm the unloader, that saves tons of issues till you stop getting feed out. You always are feeding your best feed first since your feeding from the bottom. I'll take silos anytime....

    I ha e a question about the head on the choppers I custom chopped last year using a 3950 John Deere 2 row and one of the rows I can’t remember what one bit one of the rows struggled picking up the corn the knife would cut it but the grabber chains or what ever they are called wouldn’t Hartley pick it up to feed the chopper it was leaving several stalls behind any idea of what was going on

    What row spacing are you on? Been on 30 inch rows here in southern middle Tennessee for over 30 yrs now. Brothers switched to a 3970 with 3 row header this past year, pull it with a 4555 with intercooler. They fill a 30 x 150 bunker to feed Holstein heifers.

    Nothing smells better than cut hay and chopped corn.

    Great video as usual....as far as silos vs bags vs bunkers or piles, I tend to lean toward silos myself but every storage method has it's advantages and disadvantages. Silos and unloaders have a higher initial cost and maintenance, but when you weigh in all the other factors I'd say it comes out pretty close no matter what you do. Just my opinion

    I liked the video! It's fun to watch some farms more my size! 4440, 4450's!

    We used the same outfit when I started working on a dairy in the mid 90s. Thought we had the world by the balls with that 4450. When we got an 8100 we got a 3 row head. One thing that was a real bitch was the anhydrous we ran through the chopper. We were packing the bunker with a 2350 loader. With no cab or ac you got a dry mouth and sore throat.

    Do you let it settle and refill within the week. We have 20x90 harvestore just for corn silage if we fill it clear full one day it will be half empty the next afternoon.

    Do you guys run a recutter screen in your chopper? The 3950 I sold a few years ago I had to run a screen, otherwise it would make half dollars on the cobs and wouldn't touch a kernel

    Looks like a nice harvest, very good weed control... What did you guys use? Also did you apply nitrogen later on, where we did it seems to be holding the moisture

    • @iowadairyboysFarms

      180 units of nitrogen applied before planting plus manure

    I know today most fill the bags cause it's cheaper then silos but to me there's nothing better then blowing corn silage up a blower into a silo. We had two blue ones back in the day, good memories, thanks for the great video.....

    Next time for any chopping you should put a camera on the box. Like on the right side so you can see the corn

    I've only chopped 1/2mile straight rows , I think if I had to chop all those curves I'd need to find an old kemper head or I would make a lot of long stubble. thanks for the vid

    Holy crap u r chopping for dairy cows and not running a kernel processor?! We started running those in the 1990s! Makes a huge difference in milk production.

    • @crazyhass84
      @crazyhass84 7 лет назад +1

      iowadairyboys we rented a blower with a processor. It was cheap and paid for itself 4x over. Not to mention needing less feed because cows ate it all. Dairy cows r worse than a high maintenance woman lol.
      Plus I turned up to 4440 to 4840 hp levels and made that bitch scream. Ahhh getting a bonner just thinking about it.

      iowadairyboys My brother has an extra one, I'll see if he will sell it, because it will grind or Crack the kernel which is what needs to happen.

    • @iowadairyboysFarms

      How hard is it to put in.

    • @hturbo1007
      @hturbo1007 7 лет назад +1

      iowadairyboys It just bolts in behind the knifes, the hard part is getting it adjusted right so it does a good job with out hitting the knifes.

      We still run pull type chopper here in Kansas for corn Silage. New holland chopper but it goes into a bunker. So we have a dump wagon and high sides on 2 grain trucks. Behind a 4960 John Deere. Our chopper has a “keeper” style header. Takes in 3 rows at a time. We chop 160 acres a year. This year as dry as it is. We might end up chopping everything because the corn isn’t going to make anything.

  • @jednobel6416
