In 2007 Super Junior was in a major accident. Kyuhyun was in a coma for 4 days and he stayed in the hospital 3-4 months his rib broke and stabbed into his lung. He almost had to give up his career, but his dad fought for him. And at this point (him singing with Charice) he had recently come out of the hospital, I think. Hence the reason Super Junior were crying
The heart wrenching fact that his father who wasn't originally supportive of his son's chosen career asking for other options and choosing to save his son from a life without singing.😭😭😭
Remember watching this & being so happy for him. The song 'Love again' he did for us fans when he came back as a thank you for praying & waiting till this day I listen & treasure it

I believe what happened was that after she sang, she was asked if she knew Super Junior and she answered yes. She was next asked who was her favorite member and she answered Kyu Hyun and she said that she heard that he has the best voice amongst the group and that she wanted to sing with him. And that time, Kyu Hyun had just recovered from a car accident and the host of the show said that Kyu Hyun might not be in the best condition to sing. However, a member of Super Junior who is also a good friend of Kyu Hyun said that he believes that it would be good for Kyu Hyun to sing a duet with Charice because ever since the accident, Kyu Hyun had not been in a good place emotionally. He further suggested they sing the song "A Whole New World" from Alladin. The next scene then shows them singing a duet.
I still remember that during this time after south koreans saw this amazingj duet manyj local artist in Korea attempted to do their own version of this song on award shows and other tv programs but this particular performance by Charice and Kyuhun is simply magical and top notch that is why its unmatched. This is one of my fave rendition of the song aside from the original and the one with Morissette and Darren’s version
This performance was actually impromptu. CHARICE was asked if she knew SUPER JUNIOR was and she said yes. When asked who her favorite suju member she said Kyuhyun so this precious collab happened.
I forgot which member but one of the suju members suggested they should sing a whole new world.
The clips that walleska said “I like the footage” was actually the clips during the accident of the members.
In 2007, Super Junior ( Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk and Kyuhyun) was involved in a serious car accident in which their van flipped over on the Olympic Highway.
Kyuhyun was found unconscious 20 to 30 meters away from the van, with his clothes ripped off from the crash.
Kyuhyun was in a coma for about four days, and was hospitalized for about three to four months. Before regaining consciousness, all of his ribs were broken and were stabbing his lungs. Something needed to be done. At the time, the doctor said that he needed to puncture kyuhyun neck and put a hose down in his throat to expand my [thoracic and abdominal] areas.”
Kyuhyun’s father during at the start of his career was actually against kyuhyun becoming an idol. But it was Kyuhyun’s dad who fought hard for Kyuhyun’s dream. Saying “My kid’s dream is becoming a singer. He’s someone who wants to sing. If you take away his voice, even if he lives… I don’t have the courage to take away his dream”
because the surgery he will lose his singing ability.
This performance was actually after coming back after months of staying in the hospital.
Hence why Super junior members was so emotional watching kyuhyun singing. Cause even with the surgery there was little chance he would survive.
luckily they found an older doctor who suggested that they should punctured the sides of kyuhyun’s body instead, and fortunately, it was a success. They didn’t have to puncture his throat.
It was an awfull accident. It was the media people who found them first in the highway but none had called ambulance for help instead they were busy taking pictures about what happened. Luckily SHINWA first gen group van was passing by. Their manager called the ambulance while the shinwa members where looking after suju members.
It’s been so long since i heard the news but wasnt it also the media chasing them that caused the accident because they were tailgaiting their van? Or was i confusing it with a different incident. Anyways i’m so grateful for the senior doctor for saving kyuhyun’s life and career and for his dad for making that decision for him.

I remember watching this for I can't even count how many time. We were happy Kyuhyun is back sound and healthy after the accident, we were touched when he started singing.. Star king is a must watch for me back then.
The scenes of an accident is actually a footage of some super junior members who were in a car accident. I think it was kyuhyun leeteuk, eunhyuk and shindong. The accident made thei van flipped and it put kyuhyun in a very dangerous near death situation. He was critical and suffered multiple bone fractures which also caused stabbing sensation in his lungs. The doctor had asked his parents for a choice to save his life and that was to put a hose in his throat to expand his thoraic and abdomen so he could breathe. But Kyuhyun's dad said that if they did that he would be ruining his son's dream of being a singer as he was at this time the newest to super junior. They didn't even know if doing the surgery would save his life but in the end they went through with it and instead of puncturing his throat they punctured the sides of his body instead. And that's why this song is meaningful and this episode of star king cus it was one of the first times we see kyuhyun singing again after being in the hospital for 4 months 🥺🥺🥺

The first time I watched kpop was in 2010-2011 on RUclips along with other groups. 2nd gen variety shows is, imo, what sold them to the international market. It was the peak of Korean Entertainment because of kpop groups during that era. They not only performed, but entertained as well. The groups and songs were so iconic that when you ask the Korean GP which kpop era they want back, they'd answer 2nd gen.
He had just came back from a major accident I cried when that happened. I still get tears in my eyes when I remembered what happened and I was a Henry fan at the time when he was a super junior member.
Please try to watch the full performance of charice on that show with English subtitles. Actually the back story of that part was so touching.....Charice 's international carreer started on that tv show.

I was shockef when I found out about it too..being an ELF & a Filipino..my heart is jst overjoyed.. Yes, suju was on top around that tym since "U" frm 2006..but if I'm not confused this was either bfore or aftr Kyu's accident w/c almst cost his life & voice..also, jst a yr aftr he debuted.. Every tym I hear him sing so powerfully, I'm jst remeinded of d incident & jst thought how a lost it would b if Kyu couldn't contimue singing anymore..if that savior doctor didn't find another way, we wouldn't b able to hear that top vocals frm our maknae.. I've alwys appreciated vocalists esp those of my own but I only have a few who I'm really amazed of & charice was 1.. I luv this so much as both r so close to my heart.. One of the most impressive live performances of Charice was on Good Morning America singing the Bodyguard medley with a band and David Foster on the piano.
It was on RUclips. And I also remember people downloading the performance and releasing the VCD's. It really was a proud moment for Filipinos.
The clip was back when SuJu got into an accident early on their rookie years and kyuhyun has gone under a surgery that almost cost his career plus leeteuk getting lot of stitches on his face. Even with fewer members, they still made it through the years like family.

I don't know about Korean shows so I can't say if that's scripted or not. But in Philippine TV, there are many moments like this. One particular was Vice Ganda's show where he got the TNT boys sing Listen. That's what shot them to stardom.

Back then, it was already fresh website and I spent a lot of hours watching video clips from TV shows, music videos, concerts, and fan made videos. There was no vlog or reaction videos back then. Hahaha but it was fun... ohhh, memories... it's unbelievable my account is already 16 years old now. How time flies. 😔

This performance was so emotional for everyone watching. I remember watching it in such bad quality lol. Of course, I didn't see it 'til 2010 when I got into kpop b/c of Super Junior KRY, but I was literally just learning about everything they'd gone through, and Kyuhyun's accident, so I felt a bit more connected to it than I probably would have normally.
Reminds me of how much I miss the good old shows from 2nd gen. Star King, Dream Team, Strong Heart, Star Golden Bell, Hello Baby...I think the only newer shows I ended up getting into were Return of Superman and Hello Counselor, but even those I don't watch anymore. But you can bet I'd still be watching all of those mentioned above if they were still going. Running Man is still going since 2010, but they've strayed so far away from the original concept that I stopped watching after a few years.

They even asked Charice to dance with them (SuperJunior) I watched this full performance over and over and over and over again... Charice was amazing and her performance on SK was on Top1 and most viewed and went viral all over the world. Soo cuteee😊

Here in the Philippines, they been in contract with other countries to show dramas here subbed in Tagalog and I believe Marimar and Maria Mercedes are my first experience on that which stars Thalia if I remember right. They also showed here Taiwanese dramas which makes F4 very popular here and as well as few Korean drama. That's where I've seen a very pretty dude and started to find him out in Google. Turned out to be what they call idol group SuJu. That guy was that 우주대스타 김희철. Started my journey in 2009 and my first and up to now favorite is SuJu.
How did I watch this clip in 2007? We used all kinds of video streaming/download sites since youtube wasn't really the be all back then and wherever it was uploaded by fan subbers lol.

They wanted to perform a surgery though his throat and it could take away his ability to sing and maybe speak. His dad, who was against his singing carrear fought the doctor and tried to save his dream.

What wasn't shown (or not included in the video you're reacting to) is: Charice was asked who among the seated celebrities in the panel Charice would like to sing with and Kyu Hyun was chosen. This was presented as an "impromptu" no. ("spontaneous" as you mentioned), if you ever come across the longer segment. It was the same as when Charice sang duet with So Hyang you that reacted to previously, which happened a few years after this Star King episode. The video insert, as someone already commented, is about Kyu Hyun's accident prior to him coming back to Star King and this duet made Super Junior bandmates emotional because it was Kyu Hyun's first live "performance" after he healed from that accident.
