      Hello, if you're planning to build this exact same power box, I can send you the PDF of the paper template that I designed to drill all the holes and cut the square openings in the face panel of the box. I also have a template for the top of the box where the extension outlet is located. Let me know if you're interested in the PDF files. Thanks for the nice comment, I do appreciate it.

    I have been shopping for a spider box, and recently purchased one. I wish I had seen this before my purchase. I think this box is great and would certainly buy one if they were in production. Great video !!!

    Thank you for sharing your ideas and design for your distribution box. I have been thinking about how to incorporate GFCI protection and your design addresses that concern nicely. Additionally, I was concerned about the need for 20 amp breakers to limit the 30 amp current supply possible from my generator. Your design provides all I need in a compact, efficient layout. Well done!

    Great design and construction. Please double check the voltage rating of your 3 amp fuses and holders. Most common ATC style fuses are 32 volt devices. AGC style might be a better options to meet your supply voltage.

      Thanks for the compliments.... I'm not worried about the fuses or fuse holders. The tiny small wires feeding the meter show just how small of current is being drawn by the meter(s). It's almost nothing. That 32 volt rating that you mentioned is probably at 30 amps. (that's what size fuse came in those holders) and I'm not drawing anywhere near 30 amps..... Probably only 1 amp (roughly) so in my book, when amp draw goes down, voltage can go up. I could be dead wrong, but I suspect those fuse holders can probably technically handle 300+ volts at the 3amp fuse rating that I have installed. (I haven't watched the video lately but if I remember correctly, I used 3 amp fuses because those were the smallest fuses I had on-hand at that time) Again, thanks for the comment!

    Looks good! The only thing I would do different is use a terminal strip of some kind instead of the wire nuts. Thanks for the video!

    I just started researching power distrobution for our band. A lot of sound guys have a circuit breaker mounted to a piece of plywood. LoL
    This is totally a step up. Way nicer looking. How hard is this to scale this design with a couple more boxes of outlets?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the compliments. As for up scaling this design, or making something custom for your needs..... Well, that really depends on ones ability to fabricate things from basic parts, and their understanding of electricity. For example, you could use the box in this video as a "main" box and then plug in a secondary box with an extension cord to be fed from this box, which I could also easily make. For me, this type of project is no problem.... but it might be difficult for others. Unfortunately, I do not make these for other people to use. This is my design that I came up with to fit my needs, and I built it for myself. I would like to make these for other people who ask for them but I do not have a business with liability insurance to cover myself. If something went wrong with an electrical box that I made for someone else that would be terrible. I don't want that liability. Sorry. Thanks again.

    Looks great. Better than what most guys could come up with. I’ll probably copy aspects of it. Screw the trolls, hopefully you’ll learn to ignore them as your channel gets bigger, because there will be more.

    Great video Brian . Im still working on building the first box lol! Do you still use your preditor 3500 for camping? How does the first box you made work? im excited to get mine built. Dont worry about what everyone else thinks, everyone has critics . love these kind of videos keep them coming please!

      I have recently upgraded to the Genmax 9000 inverter generator simply because it's a 240 volt machine and I needed something to use as home backup here at the house. I sold the Predator 3500 to get the cash to buy the Genmax. I hated to sell that generator because it was awesome. There is a reason why that is probably the number one generator in the RV/camping world. (besides RV's with built-in generators) However, I am considering getting another Predator (or similar 3500) later this spring simple because the 9000 Genmax is overkill for camping and it's too big and heavy to be moved around for camping trips. I should've just kept that 3500 but at that moment I really needed a backup generator for the house (family member uses oxygen concentrator 24/7) because we were having a string of outages and I had to do what whatever it took to make that happen. However, now that I don't need to worry about getting an electrical backup system installed in my house, I can now get back to thinking about camping generators, again. lol. Thanks for the comment!

    Happy holidays. Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge. I have the same model Genmax generator. Might you consider building and selling your power distribution box to us RUclipsrs someday? You might also wish to patent this device. Finally, YOU PRODUCED A RUclips VIDIO ON BREAKING IN THE GenMAX ON RUclips SOME TIME AGO. I am also interested in your modified exhaust system. Maybe you will find time to create some video content addressing the exhaust and extension. Have a pleasant Christmas, you and family.

      Hello, yes.... I plan to eventually do a video on the added exhaust pipe that I put on my Genmax generator. I will show in detail how I made that exhaust pipe in the video but just to be clear right now.... I did NOT alter the factory exhaust in any way. I simply added onto what was already there. As for the electrical box..... I would love to make these for other people but I do not have any liability insurance coverage for manufacturing electrical devices. The liability is too great for me to sell these to anyone. Sorry about that.... but thank you very much for taking the time to leave a question and comment. Merry Christmas to you and your family

    Just a quick question...how did you arrive at 3 amp fuses for those meters? Surely they must draw much less than that no? Or is that on the label of the meter? I ordered a similar set of meters to build something similar for my generator use, though I won't be using it for a power box, just going to make up a panel to put this in in my garage for monitoring loads on my backup generator during usage.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +1

      I arrived at three amps strictly because that was the smallest fuses in my box of fuses. Yes, I am serious. lol. The wire running to those meters should handle 3 amps (or more) and ANY direct short will blow them instantly... So really, I don't see them as needing an even smaller fuse to make it safe. Sounds like you're building a cool project. Will you be recording it and making a video for youtube?
      Thanks for the question.

      @@SlipFitGarage I was just curious b/c these cheap Chinese electronics don't always come with specs or even instructions LOL
      BTW, your box design is pretty sweet, if I were building houses that's exactly what I'd want!
      I don't think I'll make any Videos or what have ya, not really one to do that as I would have to start by teaching myself how LOL

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад

      @SNeal5966 I know what you mean. The meters I bought came with instructions but they were pretty poor. In fact, I don't think it mentioned anything about fuses. I understand not making a video.... it can be a real hassle and it's not for everybody. I was just curious. Good luck with your project and thanks for the question.

    Any idea how effective the gfi is on a floating neutral generator

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  7 месяцев назад +1

      A GFI receptacle doesn't even need a ground conductor connected for it to function properly. A GFCI receptacle basically monitors the amount of power flowing in on the hot, and then back out on the neutral...... Those two amounts of power should be exactly the same. If there is even a small difference, that means the power is going somewhere else (potentially into a human) and it immediately trips. The GFCI receptacles in this box are just as effective as the GFCI receptacles in my house.

    Ya know I’d just buy a commercial distro, but that won’t have these meters

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  7 месяцев назад

      I looked for a commercial distribution box that I could just buy that would fit my wants/needs..... they don't make a box like this, and the ones that MIGHT fit my needs a far more expensive than what I made in this video. And you're correct, they don't have the meters, either.
