We have tile wood floors except in the bedrooms too. I love my floors and so glad to have them due to our dog and when we dog sit I don't have to worry about my floor getting trashed...I invested in a Bissell Crosswave. It's a lifesaver! It vacuums & mops on the forward pass then sucks up the water and squeegees dry going back. Your layout is great!!! I love that fireplace!

The fireplace tiles going up and down are fabulous. Probably larger in size however they are great. I think once you decorate it you will see a difference. That area is fabulous.

That looks like field tile which looks best horizontally. Still unique though.
