    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

      Hey Saguto golfer ! I was practicing and I changed my grip pressure from a 4 to a six. That resulted into a lot of crispy chicken shots. It seems like I controlled the club throughout the swing. Do you think that adjustment is a positive. Or do you see other issues coming from that change ? Thx brother. Your very good at getting back to your golfers !

    Tom, I have spent thousands of dollars in lessons, thousands of balls at the range yearly and have watched over a thousand videos over the years. None of these have promoted a significant improvement in my golf game! That being said, I watched one of your videos, (since I have watched many more) listened to what you said, went to the range and applied what I learned from your video. I hit the ball , longer straighter all while feeling more comfortable than I ever felt swinging the clubs. You have a very unique way of getting your point across!! Thanks Tom! you way of teaching others far exceeds the ability of the majority of the famous well know golf coaches. Keep doing what your doing. Very impressive!!!

    Tom, watched you for years now. As I might not do everything that you’ve said the ground work came from you. Adult 33 years old I’ve only played golf since I was 30. You taught me simplicity. I started out I was probably a 25+ handicap. I am now a 3.2 self taught no lessons. But I have found my approach to the game.

    • @creamabdul-jabbar6722
      @creamabdul-jabbar6722 Год назад

      In that same breath I have found I’m more like Duvall or Zach Johnson. I started out I was of course a slicer of the golf ball. Worked on grip it helped some but not really, worked on release it didn’t help at all. One weird day I said I have something in my natural swing that will open the face I just can’t naturally get out of it. So I experimented I started to close my face 25-45 degrees before I take a strong grip. If I want to hit a fade I just draw my lead foot back and it fades perfectly. If I want to hit more of a straight shot on a tight fairway I have it closed at I’d say about 35 degrees but then I aim my feet straight. If I want to hit a draw I slightly close the face and aim to the right. My last 10 scores are 9 holes 32,34,34,35,36,36,36,37,38,38 not in order. My last 4 full 18 are 68,70,72,78. I know at this point I’m probably been on a streak of playing my a game. It doesn’t feel like it though because even in those good rounds there’s been moments that I’m like I missed 2 3 shots every time I go out that I know I can really hit. But I do think people need to simplify the game and if something is contrary but works do it. Do not play typical golf if it’s not working

      I'm glad these lessons are continuing to resonate well with you, Jon. This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of enjoyment for all golfers, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world.
      I'm sure I've mentioned the online school to you at least once in previous replies. That would be the best place for you to properly learn and ingrain this swing in a comprehensive, structured, sequential platform. Now, could someone deploy one of my tips to field dress a swing wound? Absolutely. However, it will ultimately serve them far better - and will stand the test of time and pressure - if they adopt and embrace the system in its entirety, and that is precisely what the online school does in a structured and sequential learning environment. If it goes as my imagination this cold night in Sweden promise, then I might either think I am all-that and need no further advise or come back for the online school.:) But until then, keep up the awesome job!

      Golf is indeed a very difficult sport. But if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination, then we can achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing, and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives!

    Tom, for me this is the most telling of all your fantastic videos. I remember Jack Nicklaus forty years ago saying that Jack Grout used to hold his hair when practising to keep his head still. The trouble is it's so easy to stray away from this number one fundamental. Rory McIlroy drops his head and squats in the downswing and many of us have tried to copy his swing - I am now convinced it's a waste of time practising this technique as the timing involved is way beyond the skill set of this weekend warrior. Thanks, mate, as ever.

      You are so correct. Amateurs have to be very careful with the temptation to copycat the motions of favorite Tour players. The pros have spent years crafting their swings and continue to hit thousands of balls each week to maintain them.
      Mr. Nicklaus' tip is timeless and is applicable to golfers of all skill levels, including those Tour players who prefer to not have to spend all that time at the range!
      Cheers!

      But here's the thing that perhaps differentiates this from some others: My channel's lessons and tips are not a compilation of band-aid fixes; instead they are all elements of the comprehensive swing system that I teach. Now, could someone deploy one of my tips to field dress a swing wound? Absolutely. However, it will ultimately serve them far better - and will stand the test of time and pressure - if they adopt and embrace the system in its entirety. (Which, by the way, is precisely what the online school does in a structured and sequential learning environment, and why thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. saguto.golf )

      As I said in the video, golf is definitely not easy!! However, if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination, then we can achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing, and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives! This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of great ball striking, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everything in between, and inclusive of the best players in the world. I give all credit where it is due - to Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching . I just do my best to take what they have built and convey it in my own simplified teaching style.

    Tom, you’re doing a great job with the stack and tilt keeping the left arm straight is hard I’m 59 years old and not very flexible. Can you give me some kind of advice keep up the good work Joe West Virginia.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      I appreciate that, Joe!
      The key here is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist). This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
      We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".
      With regard to flexibility, a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. Yes - it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ruclips.net/video/o0xscMyN3v8/видео.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". That's awesome, Erika - nice job incorporating this lesson into your swing and resolving your ball flight issues!!
      By the way, it is a fallacy that power comes from shifting weight back and forth. Instead it is really just a source of inconsistency. Once you properly learn this very centered swing system and are able to trust it you will be experiencing the power of swinging on an inclined circle - called "angular momentum" - where physics and geometry collide.

    It was a little too windy at the range tonight so I went back home and hit pitch shots off the pine straw (aka needles) in the back yard. You don't talk much about the short game but I used the same weight forward, straight lead arm technique as for the full swing and got great results. Hit behind the ball on the pine straw & it goes nowhere so it's a good test. Thanks! p.s. You would have great success if you ever started a 2-3 day golf school. (Hint!)

    A very enjoyable and informative lesson. You make it look so easy and I only wish I could turn my 73 year old shoulders as much as you youngsters can. A clean, crisp contact is an addicting feeling as you have said and I only wish I could feel it more often on the course. But, I'll take this lesson and try to implement it as well as I can. Thanks for being a great example from whom to learn.
    PS Another reason to like your videos is your lack of a thick British, Irish, or Scottish accent. For some others' videos, I have to turn on closed captions to understand what they're saying.

      LOL! You may get the occasional dose of lunacy here, but it will generally be devoid of accents (from your perspective, anyway). 😎
      You may be interested to know that it is by no means "too late". A significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

    As Always Tom, Excellent content! At one time, I concentrated on the left shoulder movement in my golf swing and it worked well. Then, I was told to move the backswing with the right shoulder, so I did that. Now, I am working on concentrating on the right "pec" and the left "lat" in moving the club back and through. Does this last situation work along similar lines as you are advocating in this video? The non-transfer of weight is still a work in progress as well! Always enjoy and find inspiration in your videos Tom! Keep up the good work!!

      Really, though, the online school is the best place to learn this swing properly and sequentially in a comprehensive, structured environment. The step-by-step, position-by-position detail you’ll get there is far superior to haphazardly piecing things together through a series of YT videos. Work through the drills, keep the video rolling, and your swing will soon be the envy of your neighbor... 😎

      I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
      There are some very accomplished players in my online school's members forum who swear by their single-length irons in this swing system. I've not personally tried them, but I can certainly see how they would be quite compatible.
      While you do have some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.

    Tom, in your "Don’t TURN Your Hips in the Downswing" video, you described the motion as a 'shift'....shift your left hip towards target, do not turn....now, you refer to shoulder turn but no hip shift. Can you clarify? BTW--I love your videos!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      There's no conflict at all. I simply cannot possibly cover each swing component in every video!! 😎
      In the downswing we get that targetward thrust of the lower body while the upper torso remains in place, thereby preserving our swing center and low point. (The technical term for this is "disassociation".) This action curtails premature hip rotation, keeps the club traveling on the proper path, inhibits the loss of lag through early extension, and facilitates the extension of the spine through the zone - a tremendously powerful move.
      It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. Hi Matthew,
      I switched to JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large last year. I wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. Since then, I haven't looked back. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Beyond that - and as they relate to grip pressure - the Jumbos are large enough that my fingertips don't wrap all the way around and press into my hands, which is a definite trigger of forearm tension for me in smaller grips.
      Having properly-sized grips that feel comfortable and secure is critically important as they are our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf.

      Think of it this way: With an in-person lesson (and I've given thousands of them), the pro is there with you for 30 minutes or an hour - typically at a pretty substantial price tag - and then they're gone. With the online school I'm there for you on-demand 24/7/365, delivering the exact lesson and drill content that you want or need to be working on at that specific time, at a "tuition" that is the same or less than what you might pay for a one-hour live session. You can rewind me, slow me down, backtrack, pause, etc. as much as you wish. With a private lesson I suppose you can ask the pro to backtrack or pause, but it'll cost you and the message may be a little different each time.

      I wouldn't be so concerned about distance at this juncture. Typically, once this swing is properly running on autopilot golfers experience significant increases in length. When you develop sufficient confidence in the motion that you are comfortable "giving up control", you'll be able to just trust it and let it fly. Tom,
    Love your videos and have watched them for years. The more and more I watch you I can help but think this swing looks like Moe Norman’s swing. Many, if not, 90% of the things you teach can be found in Moe’s swing. I know you are a disciple of S&T, but it is almost unbelievable how very similar you swing thoughts are to Moe. Just an observation! Keep rockin on my brother!!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      I sincerely appreciate the comparison to Mr. Norman, a true ball striking legend!!
      While the Stack and Tilt system I teach shares a one plane feature, it is definitely different from the "single plane" version patterned after Mr. Norman's swing. For example, the straight-line relationship of the arms and club shaft from the DTL view is a trademark of Mr. Norman's setup that one will not typically find in S&T instruction. However, there are also some definite shared features - particularly with regard to the very centered, connected, weight-forward nature of both methods.
      Stack and Tilt is a complete golf swing system based on data from the best golf ball strikers - and Moe Norman would certainly be included among them. The S&T folks determined, based on a study of these ball striking legends, that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistent crispy contact) 2. Have enough length to play the golf course well (power) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST be able to do those 3 things to be good at golf, and Mr. Norman certainly did!
      Thanks!

    Love the videos, quick question regarding your swing training, you frequently discuss against the idea of weight shift and focusing on a favor of the weight on the lead leg, is your head ever suppose to be behind the ball in the backswing? seems difficult to do both.

    I’m thinking about joint the school. Y question is. How will I know if I’m actually implementing the techniques you teach? Does the school require me to get a camera and record my swing ?

      Hi Dan,
      The online school is a self-paced, comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform with lessons and drills to guide you every step of the way. It does not require that you record your swing, though I do highly recommend doing so to confirm that you are executing the motions properly and to monitor your progress, and also if you wish to submit your swing videos to me for analysis (a separate service I offer that many of my members use regularly to ensure that their swing is progressing on the correct track)
      Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf
      I hope to see you there!

    Sure feels like I am hitting it better doing it this way. If you have that little relaxed feel in the wrist just before the release it really seems to add more speed.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад +1

      Yes - there ought not be any stiffness or tension in the wrists (or anywhere, for that matter). This allows the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including a proper full wrist hinge - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.
      Thanks for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!!

    The concept makes great sense! I’m a member of your online golf school. What’s the best drill/video in your library to help ensure head remains still and shoulders turn?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      Hi Robert,
      It's a cumulative process that begins with ingraining the proper setup. From there it's a matter of learning the tilting, turning, and extending motions that you find in Chapter 2 of Golf Swing Simplified or Part II of Get Out and Go Play. Once you've mastered those you should be able to execute the swing with minimal head movement. To get a feel for the coordinating of these elements you can reverse engineer it as follows: Without a club in your hands rest the top of your forehead against a wall to keep it in place. Without allowing your head to move execute the forward side tilting motion and watch what happens. Magically your lead shoulder has turned downward, and your spine has extended.
      By the way, have you joined the SagutoGolf Members Forum (which is included with the online school) yet and begun engaging with other golfers in the school? If you've not already done so it only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access in this fun and tremendously supportive community and participate in the ongoing great dialogue on a variety of swing- and game-related topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post accomplishments and specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond and banter of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same.

      I may feature Mr. Nicklaus and/or his tips in future videos as I have in the past. Will it be to the level of a "series"? Probably not. That's not at all a dig against the Golden Bear or his legendary swing. It's simply a matter of producing the type of content that my audience tells me resonates best with them.
      Cheers!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Год назад

      If there's "a pain in the butt" from correctly using muscles that have not previously been deployed in your golf swing, then that's a good thing. If on the other hand it was lower back soreness, then something would be amiss as this is a very body-friendly motion.
      Keep up the GRRRRREAT work!!
