      Trestle bracing, single-sound-post bracing, or parallel tone-bars with a totally empty inside ? (I’m always seeking pro-line Terada-made Gretsches made with the max level of acoustic f-hole guitar aspect.)

    Have a 6118 green (anniversary) model Gretsch. A lefty and all. What I really like in addition to “that Great Gretsch” sound is that you can also do heavy rock easily. I also love the Greg & Joe show, a real chemistry is in evidence. It is wonderful as well that Joe has both a love of his job and an encyclopedic knowledge of the brand’s history.

      Keep saving! If this is the type of guitar you really want to be playing from now on, I don't think you could do much better. I owned a Korean Gretsch 5420T first, and my 6120-55 is a huge and obvious step up when it comes to tone and workmanship. The 6120-55 I picked up is exquisite, and it gets played more than any other electric I own. I've had it almost 2 years now and it's still my favorite. I also play a Gibson ES-175 that cost over $5000, but my $3000 Gretsch 55 is the boss. I just love it. Hollow body electrics need heavy gauge strings to really sing, .011's at least.

  • @vampolascott36

    Just got the '55 yesterday. I should have bought it from Wildwood. The aluminum nut needed a few dabs of oil. And I need to adjust the neck for a little more relief. Why do they put such light strings on at the factory? Hollow bodies need at least .011's to really squeeze every last drop of tone out of that glorious orange wood. Even with the light factory strings, it sounds like a slice of rock n roll heaven. I got a Gibson ES-175 from Wildwood last year and they did an awesome job setting it up just the way I wanted.

    • @vampolascott36
      @vampolascott36 7 лет назад +6

      After a few weeks, I am totally in love with this guitar! The Gibson ES-175 (which I also own) and the Gretsch 6120 may both be laminated maple hollow body guitars, but the similarity ends there. Nothing else sounds like this. The tone is totally unique and very very cool! It has a bit of the spank and definition of a Telecaster married to the fat warmth and resonance of a hollow body.

    Another Chet Atkins story, found on a RUclips video (on the life of Chet Atkins)...
    According to June Carter Cash, when Chet played with the Carter Family, they were advised not to bring Chet with them to Nashville...
    Someone in the biz said he'd take away a lot of guitarists jobs if they did.

    • @montag4516
      @montag4516 3 года назад +1

      That's funny that Gretsch assumed Chet must be some kind Hollywood western cowboy so they give it a G branding and cactus inlays. Although, admittedly, they suit that guitar quite well.

    The Gretsch Professional Collection is the company’s top-end, flagship line of guitars and basses. Here is where you will find such iconic instruments as the White Falcon, the Country Gentleman and the Duo Jet. The Professional Collection actually subdivides a little further into two more sections: the Player Edition and Vintage Select.
    Gretsch Pro Collection guitars are all made in Japan.
    The Custom models are made in USA.
    Other models are made in Korea, China and Indonesia (most affordable).
    All guitar reviews must contain details on Year/Make/Model. Yes. It's important for guitar collectors where the guitars are made.

    Scratches where they put the Bigsby tailpeice on, crap quality control. Total let down, I have bought 5 hollow body Gretsch's over 4 years and EVERY kin one had the same scratches in the SAME places in the same area when they put the Bigsby on at Manufacturing level. NOT acceptable. The store didn't wanna know, as I exchanged 3 of em, and every one was the same, in different areas. Luckily my guitar tech somehow managed to rectify one of them , but the rest are irreparable. If you guys are listening, check your guitars out. I must admit, Gibson are pretty crap as well.

  • @SuperDoddsa
    @SuperDoddsa 3 года назад +1

    Apparently the scratches are on EVERY single model! Must be the Gretsch manufacturing process, I spoke to 10 guys living near me, one had a 55 Vintage Select, with a 59 Vintage Select, the other had various Brian Setzer models, and I have 2 players edition models. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUES. ! Scratches, on the control side where the Bigsby was fitted (some are very noticeable and some less so) I tried to contact Gretsch on this but couldn't get to speak or email anyone. I'm sorry for bringing this up...but we all work hard for our money to purchase instruments that we think are gonna be great. I appreciate that they are there to be gigged and played, but I think its a disgrace.

    anybody else hate Greg Koch ? clearly this man sold his soul and just about everything else he had to the 😈 at some crossroads in Colorado , I love my guitar but I'm only a three or four chord trickster and when I see Greg play I feel like putting mine in the fire.
    Anytime I see a 6120 like that I think of Eddie Cochran I always thought the branded G was actually a C for Cochran silly me.
    love the sounds Eddie got out of his Gretsch he will always be a legend to me.
