your vids came up in my recommended somehow and I gotta hand it to ya, much respect to care about not only the lil artifacts one may find down there but also the amount of trash. I feel like a lot looking for valuables would ignore and leave it but I've seen you pick it up on so many occasions. It's nice to see there's still some good out there
I used to live near what was Camp Breckinridge, Ky. during WWII. To this day, occasionally farmers on land that used to be training areas find live shells. The police call the bomb squad from Ft. Campbell to come and take care of it. A couple families found one while digging out the basement for a house they were building.

That fist bump to the mortar wouldn't have blown it up regardless. It blows up a few seconds after the primer at the bottom is activated (can only activate by hitting it on a solid surface)

Looks like a M50 mortar round, but seeing as how this was found in Georgia and these types or mortar's weren't around during the civil war, my guess is it's a training round(the M50A2 or A3 more than likely to be specific) but I'm glad you guy's took the right precautions to make sure everything and everyone was safe. Those don't have a giant blast radius(assuming it's not the training version) and are shot normally in clusters between 5 and 20 rounds on a target. It's definitely World War 2 era, but it's hard to say if it's the M50A1 or the A2/3 training round.
I think they were blowing it out of proportion (pardon the pun). If that thing went boom under water in the lake, the water would have insulated the blast radius to a fraction of it's yield. The only at risk for miles around that thing would have been the divers themselves. Not sure why they had to evacuate a city lol.

@@benedictlukas2223, yea I thought the same thing. If there were more and one went off it could level a small building, maybe more. If I remember correctly, if a bomb goes off under water the explosion would be worse than if it went off on land, which is why if a grenade goes off people are advised against ducking for cover in the water. I could be wrong about the water thing though.

The kill radius of the bomb was 30 feet, not the blast radius itself. From what Inknow about bombs (not really that much honestly, so someone correct me if I am wrong) the kill radius is the most intense bit of the bombs explosion, and there people die most of the time when they are in that radius. The blast radius on the bomb that they found would have been a lot bigger, possible injuring some people

As a retired Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician, I highly recommend rethinking your choices. A lot of what you find are inert trainers. Some may be live ordnance. Some trainers contain spotting charges, which may or may not kill you, but can cause serious injuries. If you didn't put it there, leave it alone, and report it to law enforcement.

Happens so often in the UK with magnet fishers that the State wants to ban ... magnet fishing. Police: close down entire park and road
My grandfather brought back crates of artillery shells, guns, and an entire airplane propellor (among other things such as aircraft altimeters) from his service in North Africa and Italy during WW2.
So when there was a fire in his (and his daughter, my mother's) Detroit, Michigan home (more specifically I think the town was called Chesterfield) the fire department removed all of the explosives, lol. This was in the 1960's I believe.

Yeah this was completely irresponsible for them to look for, let alone handle unexploded ordinance. They can still go off and anyone who tries to copy this could get hurt or killed.

If that’s a 82mm mortar though it’s actually 130 feet almost. And that’s at best because I doubt that’s a 120mm.
Not only that, it’s missing it’s fuse and looks entirely washed out.
All that aside you don’t evacuate the city you evacuate that single area in distance of the explosion.

@@dumango4455 You would still want to take as many safety precautions as possible, even if the explosive appears to be completely dead. The only way to confirm that it's dead is by actually examining it and confirming that it isn't a threat, fuse or no fuse. I'm not a smartass specialist, but I'm just saying what would make sense.
