    It happened! What Blue Origin just did with New Glenn hardware somehow shocked NASA scientists
    In 1969, the popularity of NASA - the US space agency reached its peak when they sent astronauts to the moon for the first time in the world
    But at this time, Nasa's popularity is known for its slowness. During the past 12 years, Nasa has only launched one rocket.
    Besides, another company that is often mentioned with the nickname "delay" no less than Nasa is Blue Origin.
    However, incredibly, in 2023, Blue Origin has done more than Nasa thought.
    So, what did BO and Jeff Bezos do to shock Nasa?
    Let's find out in today's episode of Alpha Tech.

    wait so let me get this straight, so New Glenn is going to compete with SpaceX when they're 14 years ahead of them with the Falcon 9? by the time BO irons out all the kinks out the Starship is going be fully operational and I'm sure at some point in time the Falcon 9 is going to be use less and less.

    • @michaelmcmullen354
      @michaelmcmullen354 7 месяцев назад

      Really competing with Falcon heavy which does not have second stage revovery. Performance should exceed Falcon Heavy with New Glen 2.0 which will come when BE-4 matures enough to increase its thrust a bit allowing increased tankage on first or/and second stage. Neutron is the one that will be competing with Falcon 9. It is the Chinese that may eventually compete with Starship. SpaceX could have further developed Falcon 9 and Falcon heavy using Stainless, and full flow staged combustion, perhaps using propane, but that is not an efficient Mars (or moon) rocket.

    I've been extremely critical of BO. Mainly because Bozos was so sue happy. I'm willing to cut him and BO a break if they can add to the U.S.'s strategic advantage over China. SpaceX shouldn't have to shoulder that burden alone. It can apparently, but it shouldn't have to. As for BO and ULA, 1 or 2 launches a year aren't gonna cut it and they need to be helping figure out the space debris problem instead of just adding to it and letting SpaceX deal with that too. Before they can start boasting about anything they've accomplished, they need to accomplish something first, and a couple of unmanned, no-payload launches barely qualify. Good for them their rockets fly, now do something amazing with them. Try and build something worthy of China stealing and duplication your spacecraft, that will tell you whether your flying is beneficial or just space junk.

  • @TLH442

    Blue Origin is afraid. At their pace, one failure will sink them. It's not about money, it's about time and the confidence of the contractors with BO to finish the job in a timely way, Unless you have NASA and the DOD and the WhiteHo to push the money thru, that ain't gonna happen.

    • @michaelmcmullen354
      @michaelmcmullen354 7 месяцев назад

      Doubtful. They can probably survive several failures with Kuiper lined up and Vulcan sales booked. There even may be others who would buy a 250 ton thrust Methalox engine for significantly more than marginal cost to produce. SpaceX could not do the same with Raptor at this point as the rapid development makes it a moving target.

    Starship and SLS are different beasts, the current SLS is not the best intended for NASA and its plans, that being the Block 1A and Block 2. Given that New Glenn will be a big beast too, currently intended being the 'baby' we'll have to wait and see..

      As for hyperloop. Well not all genius ideas are “good” ideas. But reusable space rockets, even reusable fairings, being the next company/agency to put humans on the moon, starlink communications..etc.. pretty sure they offset the failings of hyperloop. But that’s only my opinion..

    Starship is coming!

  • @garylester3976
    @garylester3976 7 месяцев назад

    Looks like Jeff needs to up his game...
    I suspect after the next several Starship launches he will change his designs, and simplify everything.
    So far, Starship has only really show cased fabricated construction, and somewhat simplified engines.
    But I suspect soon we get to see the results of much simplified and more powerful engines, and likely that power boosted each test launch. And it will become obvious that fabricated stainless is feasible due to the increased thrust.
    Fabrication is way effective. and as engines are improved and up scaled, its just going to be continually more accepted, until taken for granted.
    As will be the simplification.
    Basically its a move from custom rockets to industrialized ships production.
    And once it gets obvious, other players will jump onboard. Especially those in related industries like aircraft production, ship building, and engine manufacturing.
    Space ships with be a blend of current military industrial complex corporate abilities, but become its own niche.
    and early rocketry will have about as much input as the other fields.
    Will require the Superman effect: Lighter than a maritime ship, stronger and more durable than aluminum aircraft, Simpler than a jet engine, etc.
    But each industry will have appropiriate skills. And I suspect it all will be blended in with the new upstarts thru mergers.
    Basically SpaceX is the Trail Blazer into the new era, and the rest will be along shortly when they realize the danger of staying in the old paradigm too long.
    Time is money, and the new tech is way faster, and not limited to sea surface or even atmosphere.
    And if atmospheric carbon extraction is perfected, and maybe oxide extraction from refining, rocketry becomes effectively non polluting. And even methane production from city sewage would reduce greenhouse gasses by being burnt rather than expelled.
    Likely current aircraft flight distances will be shortened. become commuters, and all the long legs replaced by rockets.
    We'll see, but we arent likely to stay with the current business model very long.
