      I am learning my lessons. I'm losing weight, plus I am more conscious of how I breath on camera. Check out my latest video putting the 10x10 tent up on my new channel CAMPING WITH RICK.

    Bowline knot

      Perfect. I've heard my daughter talk about that one. I'll start practicing that knot before heading back out on my next camping trip.

    Bowline or a half hitch slip knot would work good and both would be easy to untie

    Great looking tent. I am really considering pulling the trigger on it but, living in Louisiana I am worried about mold. Having to set the tent up at home and dry it ...yada, yada, yada. By the way the bowline knot works great. A very simple knot.....the old overhand loop, the rabbit comes out of the hole around the tree from the back and then back into the hole (loop).

    • @mikenrickoutdoors
      @mikenrickoutdoors  Год назад +1

      Yah, humidity could be an issue but drying it out well, plus talking with Kodiak Canvas may be a good idea to see if there is anything that can be done in high humidity areas, besides drying it out well.
      Great idea on the bowline knot. I was using it the last time I put it up at the Miramonte Reservoir about 2 weeks ago, or at least I was making my best effort to use the bowline knot.
      My daughter use to be on a Search and Rescue team in Gunnison, Colorado and she was really good at knots, so I need to work with her more to make sure I'm tying the knots correctly. You know how emergency services are. You may be tying the knot correctly, but it would still be wrong to them because it's not good enough.
      Thanks again for the tip.

      @@mikenrickoutdoors Thanks for the reply Rick. Mike also replied to me with a link to a recent video of yall catching some fine browns....and I subbed. You guys look like you really know how to do it with the camping. You might want to read my reply to Rick regarding my fishing endeavors. They nicknamed me Wayne The Seine for a reason....LOL. Right now I have a new small travel trailer...a 26 footer rigged up for off road with brush guards, 20 inch 10 ply tires, and solar. I am however considering selling it and going back to my roots of tent camping. I look forward to watching your videos and thanks for the prompt response.

      We also have the website at mikenrickoutdoors.com/
      Thanks again for the sub.

      Plus, I cooked a Papa Murphy's pizza on a skillet on the top of the stove. Keep an eye out for those videos coming up.

    Not putting down the tent but let's be honest. By the time you staked out the 10x10 mat the flex bow would have been up already. Imagine being in the plain where I am in -40c with wind blowing and snow to contend with as well as a rock bed ground because maybe you're close to a river, re-tightening and possibly repositioning ...how many stakes? ...and then re-tightening all the numerous gy lines again....all in the howling wind chill. Not to mention if you have to relocate in a hurry, let us not even mention that. I like the idea but I still think the flex bow blows this one out of the water in design. The stove setup is great I just wish the flex bow had that same option without having to modify and void the warranty. I also think the flex bow can handle the wind and snow load better.

    • @mikenrickoutdoors
      @mikenrickoutdoors  Год назад

      I agree with a lot of your points. I love my FlexBow and it is a great tent, without all of the Guy Lines.
      The information from Kodiak Canvas says the FlexBow tents are not rated for heavy snow loads, but I'm sure they would handle it, especially if you knocked the snow off regularly.
      I'll be testing a lot of tents and it will take some time for me to find what I like the best, but the bottom line is that Kodiak Canvas makes some great tents.
      Thanks for the feedback on your experiences.

      @@mikenrickoutdoors If you guys like the flex bow tents and wood stoves then take a look at the 10'x14' SpringBar classic Jack 140. Springbar is the original creator of the "flex bow" design. Same size and design as the Kodiak flex box but the classic Jack 140 is wood stove compatible. They also make a 10'x14' stove ready Skyliner tent which has even more room because the walls are almost vertical giving more usable interior space

    This is a nice tent but setting it up takes a long time and effort I have a 10x10 Kodiak flex bow tent and it takes less than half the time to setup

    • @mikenrickoutdoors
      @mikenrickoutdoors  Год назад +1

      Agreed!
      I also have the 10x14 Flexbow tent and you're absolutely correct. It takes time to set up the cabin lodge tents.
      The thing for me is each of these tents can serve a different purpose. If I need to run my wood stove or want more room, then I have the option to go to a cabin style tent. As you said, if I want a faster setup and a heating source like a Buddy Heater will suffice, then I'll choose the Flexbow tent.
      Nice observation and thank your for posting the comment. Let me know if you have any other advice or things you use when you go camping. I'm always looking to learn and try out new things.

      Faster but with guy lines and stove jack, this is better for windy conditions and cold technically.

    • @sgt.pepper4274
      @sgt.pepper4274 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, based on how he's putting it up, especially because it is a first time. I have watched people put this up in 15 minutes, completely. As far as the flexbow tent being quicker to pitch, ur correct, but it's not stove ready; and for me this is a necessary as I do much more winter camping than summer camping. For those looking for a 4 season tent, this is awesome, especially for the price.

      @@mikenrickoutdoors Rick, I looked up the specs on the tent, and the weight for the entire package is 75#, like you said.
      Sorry I wasn’t very clear in my question before.
      About how much do you reckon just the tent body itself weighs? No poles, ropes, stakes etc. just the canvas and sewn in floor.
      When you take it out of the box in the video and put it down on the other side it looks doabble.
      Thanks again.
      Btw, how often do you fish at Miramonte?
      I live a couple hours from there. I went bust this winter fishing through the ice, but still had a lot of fun.

      I would guess the tent is 2/3 of the weight so maybe around 50 pounds, give or take 5 pounds.
      We have been up there 2 or 3 times each year for the past few years and Mike is heading back there in May. I keep telling Mike there are a million other lakes to visit, but when he starts catching fish, something happens to his brain.
      We'll be heading up in to Canada in 2025 to start fishing there.

    How does the bottom of the door seal up

      The zipper is about 6" off the ground so no water can get into the tent, and the door has a well made zipper.
