We are into day three and only 35 overs have been bowled so far. India bowled first and reduced Bangladesh to 107/3 after 35 overs before bad light stopped play in the second session of the opening day of this Test match. Soon, the day was called off due to rain.
Both sides arrived at the venue and it was continuously drizzling from the morning of day two. The drizzle was consistent and as a result, the groundsmen were hesitant to remove the covers. The super soppers kept removing the excess water present on the covers but to no avail as the match officials decided to call off day two in the afternoon.
The forecast for day three isn’t great either. Showers are expected today as well and one can only hope that we get to witness some action. Let’s hope the rain stays away and we get a result as crucial WTC points are up for grabs for both teams.
Bangladesh (Probable XI): Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudul Hasan Joy/Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan/Nayeem Hasan, Litton Das (wk), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed
India (Probable XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav/Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has called time on his Test career. The 37-year-old said the upcoming home series against South Africa will be his last in the longest form of the game.
Shakib is battling an injury and may not play the second Test against India. He didn't bowl too many overs in the first Test and his batting too has not been up to the mark in the last few innings he has played for Bangladesh.
The weather forecast for the first two days of the second Test is not looking too promising and we may get a lot of rain interruptions.
Before the start of the match, a controversy arises as a section of the stadium stand has been declared 'dangerous' by the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department. The stand has a capacity of 4,800, but only 1,700 tickets will be sold due to concerns that it could collapse if filled
