A case could be made the Longhorns have had the best position talent in the Big 12, even in the rare instances when the team was marginal. 3. What is most important for the success of Texas, especially competing in the SEC, is the bullpen being very deep and talented. Texas absolutely needs a certified closer to end games. The starting pitching staff also needs to be deep enough where Texas has 5 starters good enough to be weekend starters. 4. Regarding the early rankings, although Texas lost talent from their 2024 roster, the talent that has returned, as well as the incoming transfers and recruits, Texas should be ranked above Oklahoma State. The Longhorns beat the Cowboys last year, and with their returning talent and coaching upgrades, they should be ranked ahead of Oklahoma State. 5. One significant factor for how well Texas will compete in the SEC, in addition to pitching of course, is Will Gasparino. I think Gasparino is a potential 30 home run 30 stolen base talent in Major League Baseball. He just needs to thoroughly fine tune his swing, in order to make more consistent contact, rather than striking out so much. 6. With Will Gasparino in Left Field, Easton Winfield in Center Field, and Max Belyeu in Right Field, the Longhorns should legitimately have one of the best outfields in the nation.
