Thank you! Start saving containers for winter sowing. I personally like to use milk jugs.

I started about 40 echinacea plants last year from seed. They were awesome, went in the ground and were doing great until "rabbitmania" descended upon my garden. I lost all but three plants to the critters! I do have some more established "white swan" echinacea that the bunnies only ate about half of so now with your help I will collect seeds from that plant and start again. One of the plants that survived did put up flowers which I was thrilled with since this is a first year perennial. Thanks for sharing! I am loving this series, so helpful:)

Rabbits are so cute until they go after our precious plants. Ugh! I'm so glad that you learned how to collect your own Echinacea seeds. Collecting your own seeds can be so much fun! 🥰

This was my first year planting euchinecea. I have been collecting the seeds as they dry but didn't know this. I'm in zone 5b. Thank you.

You are very welcome. Also, Echinacea grown from seed can take 2-3 years to create a bloom. 🌷♥

How do you do the cold stratification? Do you have to open the pod and take the seed out or just plant the tan little pod?

Hi there! I like to start all my perennial seeds using the winter sowing process as that gives the seeds the cold period that they need here in my growing zone. Here's a video that shows how I winter sow: ruclips.net/video/x9-ifLwjtbI/видео.html. Rudbeckia seeds need to be cold stratified for 3 months at 40°F. Cold stratification is a cold treatment that mimics winter conditions and helps seeds germinate. You can also sprinkle the seeds on the ground and press them into the soil during the Fall months. Do not cover the seeds as the seeds need light to germinate. A final way to cold stratify seeds is in the fridge and/or freezer. You do need to take the seeds out of the seed pod. Good luck, friend! 🥰💐

Thx i just bought a banged up old crispi multi colored echinacia plant it would be great if i could plant my own. I tried before with no success. Im thinking put them in soil and keep in my garage till spring so the seeds dont get eaten by something but theyll experience cold season?? Im in illinois. Near chicago

Hi Lisa! Is your plant currently in a pot? Does it have flowers on it still? I'm just curious. If it were me, I'd get that plant into the ground so that its roots can establish themselves. 💗🌷

Hi there! Great question. I have a lot of coneflowers in my yard so I collect the seeds from those plants. Also, I like to collect coneflower seeds from plants that I see out in local parks. If you're unable to find a coneflower plant to collect the seeds from, you can always just buy the seeds online. 😊🌸
