    About the velocity stacks. You can put the ones from the z900 as a direct replacement. They are half the length of the short ones in the z900rs. Its a common mod in the Japan z900rs mod comunity.

    • @DaleWalkerHoleshot
      @DaleWalkerHoleshot  3 года назад +2

      Common doesn't always mean better. I want to take advantage of the front section of the air box, and the placement of the added air flow I set up along with the removed divider. Especially without ram air. Cheers D

    Hey Dale! Great to see your back on the tube again. I am wanting to do the airbox mod as prescribed. The stacks from Kawasaki here in the UK cost over £60! My problem solving thoughts are asking this... Can we not just cut the two longer stacks to the same length/angle, without buying shorter ones?? Regards from UK

      Hi Tom, most likely would work ok, but you would want a nice radius on the end, not a sharp edge. Be sure to watch Part 3 > Cheers DW

    Yup, Makers Mark hits the spot!
    Nice attention to detail. Looks good in that air box.

    Nice attention to detail. Reminded me of when I did the Bandit lid per your instructions. Cut then sanded to perfection. Opening the lid not only enhanced the airflow but made a nice audible difference too. With the full exhaust, the secondary throttle blades removed and the airbox mod - the last step needed is your SuperTuner for a great performance package. Can’t wait to see the results. My guess is just kissing the 120 mark at 119 hp.

      Hi Joe, I spent years getting to that point with the 1250, developing the tuner , removing the secondaries, designing my own 4-2-1, and literally thousands of hours dyno and road testing. I even purchased two new 1250s, Igor and a 2008 that I eventually sold. In the end it was worth all the hard work, by milking out a full 30 HP from a bone stock 1250. We will see how Mr Green does in the next week or two, but its important to me to try to get the best driver as well, meaning smooth with nice throttle response. Thanks DW

    • @joflewbyu2377
      @joflewbyu2377 3 года назад

      @@DaleWalkerHoleshot Absolutely. The throttle and engine response are greatly improved. Your effort turned a jerky and unpredictable stock Bandit 1250 into a much more enjoyable ride that pulls smoother, harder and much more predictable throughout the whole entire rev range. Modifying the bike kept me from getting rid of the bike.

    What’s up Dale! I go pick up a 17 FZ10 Saturday. About 8 hours round trip. Already has Akrapovic titanium cat pipe, ais block offs, 2WDW custom tune, Trex Fz10 frame sliders, front and rear axle sliders, Yamaha comfort seat. It has such low miles most people wouldn’t believe it, but it’s legit.

    Would it be easier just to totally eliminate the air box and put on air filter podes directly to the intakes?

    • @DaleWalkerHoleshot
      @DaleWalkerHoleshot  2 года назад +1

      Pods would kill power over a properly modified air box and tune Louis. I've tried that a few time with EFI and went backwards. Cheers DW

      Nope, and what's wrong with engine braking. Its fine just need to adapt Gator.

    Has anyone tried swapping on a z900 head and upper assembly, or just the z900 throttle bodies ,velocity stacks and cams?

    • @DaleWalkerHoleshot
      @DaleWalkerHoleshot  2 года назад +1

      I know in the UK they have done some of this. Cams with proper tune & full exhaust will make about the same as the Z900 > APX 130 Beans

    • @CoolBrzBlu
      @CoolBrzBlu Год назад

      @@DaleWalkerHoleshot Apparently the z900 has a good bit more compression. Even with cams and exhaust the rs is still behind the z900 because of the low compression dished pistons.

    Assuming that one tunes the bike accordingly... If you use this airbox mod, and a higher flow filter, but keep the stock exhaust... How much impact does the mod have? Or does this mod only really make sense to do if you are doing the exhaust as well?

    • @DaleWalkerHoleshot
      @DaleWalkerHoleshot  3 года назад +1

      Never tested it since the stock exhaust is totally choked up, Need to do both to really get the gains, as well as drop tons of weight off the bike. Cheers Dale

      @@DaleWalkerHoleshot And therein lies my dilemma... I normally do loud exhausts and tuning and all that on my bikes... But this one I wanted to keep the stock look and sound and make it more of a "sleeper"... Already did the ECU flash to get rid of the secondary plate and timing restrictions, and I ditched those crappy OEM tires and fitted some Pilot Road 5's... Then I swapped out the stock shock for a K-Tech Razor R Lite sprung for my weight(250lbs with gear) and swapped out the watery fork oil for the 7.5W that Dave Moss recommended... Front rider sag is 40mm and rear is 35mm and it corners like a cat on carpet now.
      So I feel like it looks the retro part, but I can ride it like my sportbikes now and its a blast. I know that with a pipe, the airbox mods and a proper tune, I can easily add 15hp at the wheel, or more... but then it will be too loud, attract attention and I am not sure I want to do that... If I want loud, I have piped and decatted bikes in the garage like a new Street Triple RS 765 and a ZX6-R...
      I want to ride with my sportbike friends in the mtns, but when I pass a cop, have him just assume it's some old guy on a classic bike... haha

      @@SquireSCA You had to being your a big guy at 250 lbs. At 175 lbs. or less all the stock parts work like a charm when set up right. The stock tires are also very decent for the street until worn, then upgrade. If you want the stock look, you better leave it bone stock. That stock muffler on any header is as loud or even raspier than my 10 " Bad Boy. My 17" street core on the Black Widow is just about right, and when light on the throttle pretty subtle as far as pipes go. Stock is Stock though and will never match that of course. Cheers DW
