Thanks again for a good video. I just passed my technician class test today and hope to be on the air in a few weeks! Your videos are great motivators to learn more .
The program may run in WINE but you will want to make sure the drivers for any TNCs you have will also work (if you have a radio). I checked out the MSMM-MESH website - very cool - thanks for sharing.
Up front - encryption is not/not permitted in the Amateur Radio Service. If you are seeking encryption for your regular email there are many legal and commercially available Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) products that are available. A google search on PKI and/and a Microsoft search on Digital IDs will get you on your way. Most email clients today (i.e. outlook) are pre-configured to use PKI certificates.
Hi, that does happen on IRLP and ECHO link but most "Systems" have monitors that will find out a non amateur stations fast and can be dealt with, but in general its not all that common, but it is an "honour system" in the end because as you stated its easy to find a valid call sign. Echo link makes you send in a copy of you licence to them before activation, but again this can be abused as well.. Cheer's Glen
If sent from the originating station via the TELNET Internet option, the traffic will not be sent HF (radio). Traffic is only sent radio if the originating station uses radio to enter it into the system.
I edit out my US call sign (which is linked to my address - I'm sure you can understand why). However, the overseas call sign is not linked to an address which is why I feel comfortable using it in my videos.
another great video with pertinent information that will help with communicating during emergencies or whenever you need to get a message through to someone. Thanks Tony (W0ALA)
Another great and informative video. Thank You. I would really like to see, when time permits, if you could possibly get a system together that would be compatibele as an add on with the "average" HF Station. Now I know what I just asked is tough. But lets say the Yaesu 857-897s, FT450s, Later ICOM KWoods etc. Allot of the newer HAMS are weak in the DATA Mode dept and would love to see some laid out plans. I know you're trying. Thanks and 73 along with Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays 2 U !!
I'm gonna play with this in WINE (and maybe Crossover) to see if I can't get it to work for Linux users and then Mac users. Another data transmission setup you might want to look into, HSMM-MESH. I use it when I'm in the Austin area to get online when I can't find open WiFi. Unfortunately the hardware is a little difficult to find so I only have one node atm.
I just watched your most recent RMS technician viedo and I was very happy to see this M'lee detailed explanation. I have been a technician for about a year and I did not know this was possible before watching your viedos. Thank you for the information and for keeping us technicians in the loop. With current technology being what it is, is this possible with a cellphone? I did not see a winlink app on Google Play
Can you use a TNC for the HF PACTOR modes? I'm seeing arguments about TNCs and modems and hoped maybe you could clarify. Keep making videos, I really enjoy them and learn a lot.
+Commsprepper yes, I've seen people use the terms interchangeably. Is there a real difference? And can one be used instead of the others. I apologize, I'm new to digital operations.
Kantronics still makes a TNC (terminal node controller) that supports Pactor I in addition to other modes. Back in the day folks would refer to the modem as a TNC. However, the new Pactor modes are proprietary and are not offered by other TNC makers (only SCS). Few folks use Pactor I anymore and have migrated to SCS modems for the increased performance of the new modes.
Very good info. It says that a WinLink account is purged if not used in 400 days, my question is: once RMS is activated and it is not used on the internet but ONLY for peer-to-peer data communication will the program be deactivated after 400 days?
Dietmar Fichter Program will not deactivate, the email address associated with your call sign will be deactivated. However, a one a month telnet connection will stop that.
NP. The ham who got me into ham is buddies with some of the gurus. Couldn't even get it to run in WINE. I guess it needs some tweaking beyond me. Next project…emergency autopatch capable repeater (or full time) with a Raspberry Pi.
Hey comms prepper I've downloaded rms express I did the set up. I'm using Windows 7 signalink and icom 718. Last week winmor p2p would open up now when I click on "open session" I get "not responding " I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times also went back to restore setting from last week no luck. Any ideas how to fix? Thanks
I had problems with my TinyTrak4 and Baofeng UV5-R. I ended up using Tera terminal might be Tera term and had to use the TNC’S control and do all the settings. Wether I remember the settings to setup again. 73,
I have the RMS Express 1.3.4.0 installed. When I select "Open Session" for Telnet WL2K, and then select "Start", I keep getting the following:***No CMS telnet server availableNot sure what I am doing wrong (yes, I am connected to the internet). Any suggestions?
+Garrett Doering Do you have access to another PC? If so, try installing there. Is your installation on a laptop connecting through a home router? If so, can you try connecting to a tethered Internet connection off of a cell phone? I'm thinking a port issue or a setup issue. This is the first time I have heard of someone having a telnet issue out of the box.
I'm not sure. But using another's call sign or making one up is illegal. Amateur operators will not communicate with illegal stations - defeating the purpose of having a station. Since the FCC dropped the Morse Code requirement It's far better to get the license. One can get a technician class license for $15.00 bucks and week of studying online.
Just downloaded the RMS express program. The Winlink website has changed some, but your video is still spot on.Thanks for the information.

Very interesting program indeed Cp. You have a lot of good info on your channel i have to chew my way through :)

Really Great! Clear and Concise. Waiting for a Kantronics Kam Plus to arrive and have RMS Express installed...
Thanks Again!

Very Well Done - thanks for the sharing a great video and a great tool. This is a keeper

TU! I was having trouble setting up Winlink/RMS Express. Your vid allowed me to get it going! 73!
Good news. Welcome to winlink.
Great vid, thanks for the quick response, very informative. Nice work!
Do you know of a good encryption program? Btw, love the vids, a lot of good information for someone like myself who is just starting,

+CharlieMic5 There is no mobile app for winlink. Windows only RMS Express or Paclink
+Commsprepper I just set up my winlink account ave sent myself my first message. Thanks for your help and for the the information
If you have a sound card interface, much like used for fldigi, you can also use WINMOR.
Can you use a TNC for the HF PACTOR modes? I'm seeing arguments about TNCs and modems and hoped maybe you could clarify. Keep making videos, I really enjoy them and learn a lot.
I don't understand the question. Can you use the term "TNC" when referring to a pactor modem?
+Commsprepper yes, I've seen people use the terms interchangeably. Is there a real difference? And can one be used instead of the others. I apologize, I'm new to digital operations.

Commsprepper Thank you for that important information

DId you connect the Signalink to the same USB port? Problem is most likely with sound card/commport drivers.
I had problems with my TinyTrak4 and Baofeng UV5-R. I ended up using Tera terminal might be Tera term and had to use the TNC’S control and do all the settings. Wether I remember the settings to setup again.

Can you use this as a technician class
+Alex Kinch Yes. In the Internet TELNET mode and with a VHF radio packet mode.
+Commsprepper Thank You

in MARS you can encrypt now but if poo happens go ahead and encrypt
I've tried switching just in case I made that mistake
Sometimes installed drivers will associate with the specific port used and if you switch ports the drivers will not re-associate.
Awesome
Thanks.
once again you come through for me
+sunnylandcamper glad it has helped
😊👍
thanks
you black out your call sign. Yet in other videos you have your call sign. Oops.
