  • Czochralski process is named in conjunction with a Polish scientist called Jan Czochralski, who invented the development in 1916. In the Czochralski process, a seed crystal is dipped into a crucible of molten silicon and withdrawn slowly, pulling a cylindrical single crystal as the silicon crystallizes on the seed. Czochralski process used to produce high volume of Silicon single crystals.

      Actually, it is wrong pronunciation. Try translate.google.pl/?hl=pl#pl/en/Czochralski

      Actually, it's more like Tch-oh-ral-ski. I'm Polish, and believe me when I say that Google translate sucks :3

      it's more like choh-ral-skee, with the "h" pronounced like the ch in "bach" or "loch"

    since the seed crystal is monocrystalline it is a lot stronger than normal silicon, so it can handle the weight

      You can also " thank " communists for destroying him in 1953. They stripped him of his scientific titles, accused of collaborating with Nazis. He got a heart attack. He could ve achieved even more.

    Doesn't the seed crystal seems to be very small in diameter ?
    If you consider the weight of several 100kgs it has to carry.
    Or is it just me?

    but how does it form cylendrical shape just by pulling with that thin seed

    • @jonathanvian2607
      @jonathanvian2607 3 года назад

      They have a crucible (a glass bowl) filled with rocks the seed is cooked into the crystal with the rocks they use DC electrical current to change the state of both crystal seed and silicon rocks.
