Top 7 aspects i'd like to see you address in your next video are : 1. 1080p movie video playback on the screen 2. audio quality in headphones. (lows, mids, high, bass, vocals) 3. viewing angles 4. heating issues not just in gaming but also during heavy browsing and other tasks. 5. free RAM available 6. Camera quality in auto mode. (8mp 16:9) 7. Performance slow down due to use of high capacity storage cards like 128/200GB.
I bought this phone this week and It will arrive next week. I wanted a smaller phone with good battery life. The camera is a bonus. A smaller screen should give me a very long standby battery life. The right-angle corners are a concern as they will probably put a square wear mark on my front jeans' pockets. Matt grey is nice as it matches my ThinkPad. I remember a similar phone was used in one of the James Bond movies a few years ago. It is more convenient and professional-looking to use a smaller phone. It only has Android 7.1. I was also considering a Google Pixel 1 to get Android 10 but Z5 seems like better overall phone.
I have one in each color on order, coming soon. Sadly they don't have certification for Japan so have to grab a separate set for Tokyo... and those won't work in Korea! So Xperia otaku continues. I would never dream of doing this with any other device. LOVE Xperia compacts. OH and that purple Z3 you can get for super cheap now. !!
+NOMADSPY we had an android project in development which required me to use several devices, so picked all xperia... expansys has then for about half of original retail and gives discounts for multiple phones. Plus it's a submarine. :)
+NOMADSPY we had an android project in development which required me to use several devices, so picked all xperia... expansys has then for about half of original retail and gives discounts for multiple phones. Plus it's a submarine. :)
yes we do care! Test the Sony UI even more to see if you experience LAG despite having the 810 processor! LAG is a big deal for Alot of users especially if you are paying for High end specs! Great Impressions Vid! Thank you
Kellen, I usually only agree with you half the time. But on this phone I would LOVE to have the ability to buy that phone to use on Verizon. I love 1 handed phones. I actually just dropped off my 2013 Moto X to have a brand new battery installed in it because I always go back to it...... I really wish all manufacturers would do as Sony is doing.
It's hard for me to go back to smaller phones, but if this kept the same specs, had stock, and a 1080p screen at this size is be all over it. It's a handsome design.
please elaborate more on the heat issues if any.. mainly interested in thermals during normal use of the phone like browsing.. calls.. taking photos etc.. also is the purchase subjected to import duties in US if it is purchased from UK?
iPhones had similarly small displays too and they were popular. The Z5 Compact or any other Xperia phone for that matter is the phone that should have stolen Apple's thunder. The only reason that did not happen is because apparently not many people knew about Xperias or the impressive specs they have. Look at the Z1 for example back when it was new it stood out with its 1080p display and 20.7 MP camera. At that time most phones did not have such a camera or anything close. That was also at a time when water resistant phones were not common but rather unheard of for the most part. Back in those days a drop of water was certain death for most phones.
It's Snapdragon 810 Revision 2.1! Sony uses 2 copper heat pipes for the Experia Z5 phones and heating should not be an issue. Microsoft is using internal water cooling on the 950XL with Snapdragon 810 Rev. 2.1 also.
dont worry about the camera, there is an update in november blogs.sonymobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Xperia-Z5-series-press-release-f6c1525644e56084ebe838ec244875ae.pdf?rl=global-en The camera interface depicted will be available on Sony Xperia™ Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium starting from November 2015 as a software update. Data charges may apply for the update
+StealthNinjaX2 Yeah, I was wondering why the new Z5's had they old camera interface yet all the promo videos show a brand new camera app. Hopefully it is much improved, the old app is so laggy even on brand new phones. Had this problem with previous Xperia phones too.
Now a day, smart phone not really need a screen protector. i using xperia z5 for almost 6 month (with carefully). the screen still perfect and no scratch at all. good job Sony !
Hey Droid life, I have a question. Have you ever noticed that if you turn on the adaptive brightness, the screen looks pretty weird for 1 to 2 seconds righ after you unlock the phone? just wondering if it's a general issue or just me? mine is Z5 C as well.
What carrier are you running this on and have you had any issues with it in terms of connectivity, wifi and such. I have the Z3 and it works great, I'm just worried that having to buy an international model might make for a worse performance....
Hi there. I know its older review, but it`s worth a try - I have few big questions you could hopefully answer. 1. Z3C had really small notification LED. It looks like it`s bigger here. Is it? 2. Audio quality of those speaker - Z3C had not enough volume for me. Is this one louder? 3. Does it shill has double tap to wake? Thanks!
When you say US do you mean just USA or like Canada as well? Because people usually generalize Canada with Americans. I'm not sure because I would also like the fingerprint scanner!
Can you PLEASE.... do a review?? I'm o the fence because of all these questions or performance. I'm like ready to order but want your opinion. Or just let me know how you like it
serious question: does the fingerprintscanner also work for other fingers despite thumbs? I'm a leftie and about to buy this phone and got no problem to unlock it with the middlefinger, but it'd be a shame having a fingerprintscanner and not being able to use it.
Please test audio for the front-facing speakers. Also how does it run with the Google Now Launcher? Is Sony good with updating these phones? Did the previous Z Compact phones get updates in a timely manner, or at all? Doesn't have to be as quick as a Nexus device, or supported as long, but flagship phones should be supported for 2 full years, at least, for updates. In my opinion, at least. :)
All of Sony's Xperia phones and tablets have been supported for at least 2 years, and sometimes even longer. The original Xperia just got updated to 5.1.1 a few months ago, and it came out at the beginning of 2013. They are a bit slower with their older devices, but at least you can almost certainly count on 2 year support.
+Andrew Maclean That's good to know! I have long considered picking up an Xperia phone as a replacement for my Nexus 5, since the Nexus 6 (and now 6p) are too big, and I'm not sold on the Nexus 5x because of the lack of OIS and wireless charging. The only downside I can think of the Z5 series is the lack of wireless charging.
+John Caban ah that's not good. I know EIS has improved over the years, but I have it on my Nexus 5 and it's pretty decent, despite the camera otherwise not being stellar. (though it's not bad, really)
I'm interested in coming back to Android from my iPhone 6 and am presently looking at the Moto G, or waiting for the newer model. This looks interesting, but I'm not sure about that glass back. The fact that it's "matte," *does* at least mean that it won't be covered in fingerprints within minutes, but how durable is it? And, I'd *never* use a phone without Screen Protection. Also, being left-handed, I'm not sure that I'd want to use my right-hand thumb for opening the phone everytime?
I want to get this z5 compact. but im still stuck with my z1 compact. which is still much very competitive phone and still very fast. never let me want to buy anew phone.
I just bought this phone today. I have a question. on the SD card there's this plastic. I pulled out an it looks like film little thing I want to pull it out but I'm not sure what it is. I'm scared to pull it out.
my ONLY complaint is ............move the thumbprint scanner UP half inch & then move the Volme UP a half inch, or bette yet put the volume where the scanner is. better yet move the Volume AND scanner UP an inch. thats my only complaint. I use volume a Lot and I hold the phone with my left hand,. so my ring finger will have to do volume.
Hi, on your review, tell us how the speakers sound (very important to me) also call quality both side s of the call, are they missing bands of ATT and t-mobile? how is the LTE on them?
that's great that you're testing a few device at same time so that in your review you could give an idea of how they compare from one another and feature are implemented, especially since most of the phone are some newly released ones I look forward on your review & judgment on Z5compact vs Nexus 6P vs LG V10
Kellex, when you do the full review, please test the camera in its default 8 MP mode. On the XDA forum, it's been discovered that the 8 MP mode produces better pics, due to super-sampling, resulting in higher fidelity. It's counterintuitive, but probably why DXOMark tested it at the 8 MP default. Cheers!
I know this may sound silly but can you remove the clock widget from the first homescreen page ? I have yet to see any single image without the digital clock widget on this phone.
the rear is not plastic, the rear is same as my z5, frosted gorilla glass. Use carefully, coz you might shockly break it. however xperia really a powerful perfect smart phone.
I had this for a week ,returned it , it gets toasty , battery is OK but not z3 compact good ,thought the ui was laggy which is crazy considering the processor and camera is very capable but let down by software ,you wouldnt think Sony supplied every one else sensors
+James Pearse Must admit, the battery isn't as good as promised, though still better than most. Not had the lag really,. Will flash to stock android as long as i don't lose the camera ability. Would be a beast then
+Slacker77 Must imported phones run on a GSM radio bands. This is AT&T, T-Mobile, and Cricket. Verizon and Sprint run on CDMA radio bands. CDMA radio bands are only in the USA. So, if the phone is imported from another country you know it won't run on CDMA. Hope this helps you out?
+billy What does it matter ? Well pick up Galaxy S5 and Note 4 and tell me which one looks and feels better in hand? One (S5) has plastic sides and the other has metal (Note 4)! If you feel no difference or if you like the S5 better, then I can't answer your question. To me, metal feels a lot more solid, sturdy and more high end!
Top 7 aspects i'd like to see you address in your next video are :

2. audio quality in headphones. (lows, mids, high, bass, vocals)
3. viewing angles
4. heating issues not just in gaming but also during heavy browsing and other tasks.

god i love the design, that rectangular and solid design
That's a good looking phone, other manufacturers should take note on how they masked the camera bump with a larger battery.
Crazy how big phone screen size standards have gone up. This is a 4.6" screen and its considered a compact.
Wow. An unbiased review with what seems to be honest pros and cons. Cheers, dude!
I owned the Z3 Compact for several months, battery life was unbelievable, amazing phone. Loving my G4 now though for a bigger screen
I still used it and I like all the performances..its the best compact smartphone i've ever had
kellen i really waiting for this unboxing for long time

really can't wait for the full review

+NOMADSPY we had an android project in development which required me to use several devices, so picked all xperia... expansys has then for about half of original retail and gives discounts for multiple phones.

z5???
Xperia Compact series Mobile 📱 awesome.. Design.. SONY Technology First..Thanks and I Love SONY Products..
I LOVE your videos, they are always straight to the point, just what the user needs !
please elaborate more on the heat issues if any.. mainly interested in thermals during normal use of the phone like browsing.. calls.. taking photos etc.. also is the purchase subjected to import duties in US if it is purchased from UK?

like my z3 compact except for the 20 crappy apps I can't uninstall. would like this phone. Sony is my favorite form factor in a smartphone
dont worry about the camera, there is an update in november

nice thanks for the info
I have the Z3 Compact. Best phone I've ever owned! (and trust me, I've owned some...)
5.15.22 Just ordered one of these, cant wait to get it, sick of clutzy big phones.
why advise to not use a(the?) screen protector?
+civicsr2cool dude last time i`ve checked sony never uses the gorilla glass on z series !
+David Septimo I think one should always use it. Why not?
Ray DM I took the advise. Screen looks pretty amazing without one on.
Now a day, smart phone not really need a screen protector. i using xperia z5 for almost 6 month (with carefully). the screen still perfect and no scratch at all. good job Sony !
Paul Jimmy Yeah, I never put one on my compact and it is still scratch free.
I like the size and the waterproof thing
That phone is almost perfect for me. I will be buying sooner. 👍
Hey Droid life, I have a question. Have you ever noticed that if you turn on the adaptive brightness, the screen looks pretty weird for 1 to 2 seconds righ after you unlock the phone? just wondering if it's a general issue or just me? mine is Z5 C as well.

My dream phone. A sony nexus... :)

great review!, you have a nice voice.
i know how you feel with the import. but Verizon did agree to sell the z5 and maybe z5 processer
Oh shit it looks so sexy! :D I hope it will be available on amazon!
Someone needs to do a 5X or 5P Camera comparison with the Sony Z5 models and the iPhone 6S and Galaxy S6 phones, maybe even the Lumia 950XL.
When you say US do you mean just USA or like Canada as well? Because people usually generalize Canada with Americans. I'm not sure because I would also like the fingerprint scanner!
Are these coming to the states? I actually want one of these but I'm sick of waiting.
Can you PLEASE.... do a review?? I'm o the fence because of all these questions or performance. I'm like ready to order but want your opinion. Or just let me know how you like it
mine just came today, its charging now and i'm SO EXCITED! i got it in yellow. its a little brighter than i thought but still not too bright or neon
How is it so far. I got the Z5 personally
I love it! its been great. awesome camera, great response to touch and fast. works very well!
wonder what you kept showing the back of the phone instead of showing the front screen and functions...
Why wouldn't you advise using the Screen protector?
when's the full review coming out?
volume buttons are in a very weird location, I think the z5(not compact) has them in the same spot
serious question: does the fingerprintscanner also work for other fingers despite thumbs? I'm a leftie and about to buy this phone and got no problem to unlock it with the middlefinger, but it'd be a shame having a fingerprintscanner and not being able to use it.

+John Caban ah that's not good. I know EIS has improved over the years, but I have it on my Nexus 5 and it's pretty decent, despite the camera otherwise not being stellar. (though it's not bad, really)
hi. good video. In these video you can see how slowly open the camera and the lag when you make a photo
There will be a camera app in the future around November
why are you against putting a screen protector on it? I just imported one of these phones last week and placed the inbox screen protector on it
I really like the color...looks so beautiful
Hey Kellen, can you post a link to your post on fingerprint sensors please? Thank you
now is time to revisit Z5c with Nougat on it, and compare
I'm interested in coming back to Android from my iPhone 6 and am presently looking at the Moto G, or waiting for the newer model.
This looks interesting, but I'm not sure about that glass back. The fact that it's "matte," *does* at least mean that it won't be covered in fingerprints within minutes, but how durable is it?

Use your left pointer finger
I want to get this z5 compact. but im still stuck with my z1 compact. which is still much very competitive phone and still very fast. never let me want to buy anew phone.
If it has all the CDMA antennas, put in a Verizon SIM card so I know if I can get one working on Verizon's network.
idk why the display size is a downfall, its a compact...
I just bought this phone today. I have a question. on the SD card there's this plastic. I pulled out an it looks like film little thing I want to pull it out but I'm not sure what it is. I'm scared to pull it out.
its the phone information like IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity). :)
I'm I able to take it off?
You should NOT remove it.
This link will give you the information.

awweh okay! :0 thank you do much!! for the help :)

Hi, on your review, tell us how the speakers sound (very important to me) also call quality both side s of the call, are they missing bands of ATT and t-mobile? how is the LTE on them?
The black one or white one...which looks better...?

I look forward on your review & judgment on Z5compact vs Nexus 6P vs LG V10
2020! 🙌 Hope everybody is doing well. 🙏
This phone is beautiful I would love to trade my nexus 6 in for this phone!
thanks for the video
So this is currently £399 and the Z3C £150... I'm struggling to see where the extra £250 is being spent!!!
more powerful components
if i buy this phone unlocked do you think is going to work well on ATT in U.S.A. because you said probably doesnt come to any carrier to U.S.A.
what's the model number of device you bought? and does it run on t-mobile? thanks!
Should i get Z5 Compact or LG G4 and why?
If the camera lens turns purple when you shine light on it, dies it have a bad lens?
What kind of screen technology does Sony use in the Z3 compact?
srsly dude, you were shaking the phone for the first three minutes. HAHA
I have a question you said it work on lte what model you got 5603 or 5683?
i have it i looooove little powerphones
aren't the camera in the nexus phones made by sony?
+Jes Marwaha Most flagship phone cameras are.
+Peter Blanco yeah I know apple use a Sony sensor
*sensor (not camera)
+Jes Marwaha sure
How complicated is it to import? Do I just buy it then put my sim card in it?
Kellex, when you do the full review, please test the camera in its default 8 MP mode. On the XDA forum, it's been discovered that the 8 MP mode produces better pics, due to super-sampling, resulting in higher fidelity. It's counterintuitive, but probably why DXOMark tested it at the 8 MP default. Cheers!
I know this may sound silly but can you remove the clock widget from the first homescreen page ? I have yet to see any single image without the digital clock widget on this phone.
Yes
thank you !
i am relay exciting about this phone and hole Z5 series
the rear is not plastic, the rear is same as my z5, frosted gorilla glass. Use carefully, coz you might shockly break it. however xperia really a powerful perfect smart phone.
why you advise not to use screen protector?
Where did you import it from?
Suited for right handed people just fine that power on and volume rocker... Everything else I like apart from those two things.
Would be a beast then
They updated the Ui now and there is a camera update coming this month which will make it much faster
where did you import it from? I'm looking to get one
Could you tell us where you purchased it from and how much this cost you (phone price + import).
+Dennis Beltran Go on ebay. There are a lot of sellers who sell it. I bougth mine for $599 in Black. Should be getting it Monday
+John Caban which carriers in the USA will support an imported phone?
+John Caban which carriers in the USA will support an imported phone?
+Slacker77 Must imported phones run on a GSM radio bands. This is AT&T, T-Mobile, and Cricket. Verizon and Sprint run on CDMA radio bands. CDMA radio bands are only in the USA. So, if the phone is imported from another country you know it won't run on CDMA. Hope this helps you out?
+Dennis Beltran I just bought mine in Sweden for 4490 SEK ($529,95) Don't know how much it cost to import to USA though
where did you get that wallpaper?
I'm really excited for this Phone"
Never reviews it... -_-
you live in the US and have tmobile?
im getting this, just wish they did them in blue or something less girly
I think the back is frosted glass
it is
do a xperia z5 review as well
is the e5823 the best LTE model for T-Mobile us?
why souldnt you use the screen protectors from sony?
I planed to buy this phone, but.. no earphone in there? dang..
does the z3 compact have better battery life then the z5 compact?
Where did you buy the phone?
Can we get it anywhere in the States?
just bought Sony z5 compact yesterday and I'm having g problems with the overheating and short battery life... someone help please..,
+RAKS 8 thanks dude :) i Will get another one and see if that Will work!
Great Review! Actually the back of the z5c is matte glass :)
frosted*
The back of that phone IS glass, the sides are plastic, true!
+Haik0 i think the sides should be metal
dogghy300 it is on the Z5 and Z5 Premium, on the Z5 Compact it's plastic !
+dogghy300 why would it matter if the sides are metal or plastic?
+billy What does it matter ? Well pick up Galaxy S5 and Note 4 and tell me which one looks and feels better in hand? One (S5) has plastic sides and the other has metal (Note 4)!
If you feel no difference or if you like the S5 better, then I can't answer your question.
To me, metal feels a lot more solid, sturdy and more high end!
