    Nigeria is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world. You will be shocked to find tribes that resemble yours in our country. You could easily pass for someone from the Plateau in Nigeria. Every region has a few genres of music in their domain. Most of what you call Nigerian music, is a small fraction of our rich musical culture. Nigeria is a mini Africa culturally speaking. It is simply not possible for any other country in Africa to compete with Nigeria as far as creativity is concerned. There will be super stars from time to time elsewhere, but the sheer population of Nigeria, and its unique cultural diversity is a driver of creativity.

A writer from Kenya wrote in to a popular presenter complaining the station reads more letters from Nigerians than from other parts of Africa. The presenter responded to the complaint by saying more than five of every letter they received from all across Africa came in from Nigeria. That's a fact that also reflects in Nigerian music, it dominates the entire airwave of Africa. The population is of tremendous advantage to Nigeria. But in all, Africa is one.

So it's not about population thing and another thing is Nigerians likes to compete with themselves a lot and they also like to appreciate their own too.... There's more to it than just population, If you know music very well, You won't talk about population, Many Africans claim to be Nigerian abroad instead of being themselves... I never met an African abroad and they introduce me to their music... There was a time the American music was the only music we listen to in Nigeria.... Imagine growing up i listen to a lot of jay Z and 50 cent and snoop dogg, Eminem, Name them, A lot of them... I even had a fake tattoo of the name 50 cent when i was a teenager but today everything changed.... Love your own and be Unique, We as Nigerians use different African sound to make music just to be part of their genre and also Support all Africans.... I would agree with these points! The point with the amount of population have to be more differentiated. I believe that the central problem is the copying or Faith one must sound Western, sound like Americans musicians! You are locally know in Zambia and want to sound like Usher or copy that is a battle you can't win. Yes, across the EU 🇪🇺 most people don't know anything about Zambia. It is a problem with the country itself. Self-marketing is bad. There are countries like Mali 🇲🇱 (19 million Population) or Senegal 🇸🇳 (15 million) their music is played in Germany 🇩🇪 , the Netherlands 🇳🇱 etc with a positive response. Don't forget the people who come from the islands, i.e. people with African roots who are looking for authenticity. Some bands from Mali 🇲🇱 are booked each year to come to African festivals. The music is authentic and that's what people want to hear, especially people on the European continent. People want to learn about the culture / traditions of a country through music. They want to experience a journey to another world. I agree that Zambians generally cannot hold together. Even art comes only from West African culture. Increasingly, I feel that many people in Zambia are ashamed to be "black". Live and celebrate culture! Music in Ghana 🇬🇭 has emerged from the shadow of Nigeria!! The cohesion and pride in West Africa is more pronounced. When I see how people from Zambia behave because they have inhaled European air, is frightening!!

      @joellahart6602 4 года назад +2

      @@benjaminliswaniso2620 I really do not want to paint the devil on the wall, but we have serious problems in Zambia. Our mentality as Zambians is very questionable. Nor do I want to lump all Zambians together. There is a lot going on right now in Zambia. We need a rational approach to address things that affect a lot of people. Incitement or recrimination will not bring this country any further. Many Zambians lack knowledge, i.e. general knowledge is quite low. Many judgments that people make are not based on knowledge or reflection, but only on whether the person's nose suits me. Many people in Zambia do not have a solid backbone. They are like a flag that changes direction with the wind. In my opinion, many people in Zambia are 'emotion-driven' and prejudiced. They are rarely able to hear the truth but are always willing to defend a lie just because the person's nose is to their taste. They are constantly judging without facts. They are people who constantly pull other people down. Words of encouragement are alien to them. As I said, we have serious problems. The attitude of the people in Zambia urgently needs to change. Why do not we have love for each other? As I said, I prefer a rational approach. There are many things that we need to address relentlessly in Zambia. RUclipsr Channels like this one or like Elias Munshya are important. It is not the right time to emotionally arouse people. Many people need factual knowledge. Some RUclipsrs put many people in a permanent emotional state of arousal, which I think is dangerous. *The points mentioned in this video can be broken down to one thing: "our inability to hold together and support each other". This is a sad realization.*
      Tourism in Zambia is so badly marketed that you could die from boredom. The person being selected to represent the section is basically “skin-bleached, wearing a wig” Nobody in Europe wants to see anything like that. Where is zambia's diversity? The person is chosen only because many people think: "She is "beautiful". What beauty concept does Zambia have? Why is Kenya so successful when we talk about tourism? Because Tradition/culture comes first. It is appalling how much the ethnic origin [tribal] of a person in Zambia is addressed. We are just fooling ourselves and hiding beyond a slogan “Zambia is a Christian Nation”. I wonder, is Zambia not having intellectuals? Sociologists? Ethnologists? Historians? Zambia must usher in the era of enlightenment. I rest my case.

The problem here is not only with the artists, promoters of African art in the diaspora have not broken loose from that chain of "one man battle". The term AFROBEAT is often misunderstood or miss represented by diaspora DJs for NAIJABEATS. promoters also contributed to the chat the puts mainly Nigerian or Jamaican artists on their line ups indiscriminately which only promotes these two already huge brands in concerts and festivals for their financial gains.

    No Bro, we don't just support our own. We love good music. Nigerian artists spends hugely in music making, talent hunt, label management etc. Once any Zambian artist pops up with a hit..I bet you it will trend more in Nigeria than Zambia. Let them go beyond the border and try collaborate with these popular artists, it will stand them out easily. Again label management is so important because majority of these musicians in Nigeria simply do little while the label managers do a lot of their promotion.

    In part, I enjoyed this video because it was not calling for a boycott of Nigerian music but for people to support Zambian music (there are too many reasons I liked it to list). It also made cemented the view that Africa urgently needs to become more integrated, that would help in situations described where artists are from small countries and therefore don't have enough scale to attract collaborations from international or continental artists. If Africa was more integrated fans from the DRC (and other surrounding countries) could catch a train into Zambia to see a collaboration between musicians. I'm not sure about the population argument though because Jamaican music blew up and it's a country of 3 million people.

Artist from other countries don't know how to jokingly ask for that collab they clearly want but a nigerian artist leave him backstage with an International act he will wine and get his collab.... POC though, Nigeria hasn’t had a population census since 1996, that’s when we was 195m, right now we are almost 210m people !!!. Finally, make sure you explain to your people, that Nigeria is MASSIVE, they should stop wasting their time trying to be like Nigeria or even think they will ever be better, there is money, popularity and success in numbers, Zambia isn’t even the population of my Anambra state. Let them do their thing and enjoy what it brings to the table. Right now I am in the USA, the American culture has completely conquered all the cultures in and around them, literally swallowed it all, their traditions still remain, but their cultures have problems, that’s what Nigeria has done to the rest of Africa and instead of these Africans to come on board and join Nigeria ( diamond platinum did and blew ) to blow !!. They’re busy arguing about banning Nigerian music and films, banning Nigerian artistes , etc.

If we [Zambians and many other countries] contribute to the growth of Naija Entertainment industry, why can't they [Nigerians] do the same to ours? When it comes to music quality, there are only a few Zambian Artists that stand out, hence it's hard to attract people's attention, especially those that don't understand the language being used. I try so hard to watch & "like" every Zambian video I come across on RUclips just to support my local team.
