    I’m glad I ran into your video. I just got an Arturia Keylab Essential to work with the Dual Keyboard function on the Nord Stage 3. The velocity sensitivity is horrible! I was about to send the Arturia Keylab back, but now I realize the problem is not the controller. It’s the Nord Stage 3.

      Hey! Yeah, I sure hope Nord comes out with a fix for it in their next firmware release!

    You are very very very correct. This is just why I don't like most 88key mid controller. The toch sensitivity on most midi keyboard's always sounds to hatch for me to control.

    Have the same issue, and it drives me INSANE! I can't believe it's taken them over 4 years and it still isn't fixed! Had the Electro 6D and the exact same issue! Luckily the keybeds of both the electro 6D and Stage 3 compact are very nice to play, but for anything more than the occasional pop song, I want my weighted 88 controllers to feel like the VSTs do!

      Thanks for weighing in! I agree with everything you said! Hopefully Nord will release an update that will fix, or at least give more control to the velocity range of an external source.

      @@DSoundman Yes, it strikes me as quite the oversight to let the velocity curve be as terrible as it is, but the trick with the EQ setting was quite smart! Thanks, I'm definitely going to use it in the meantime!

    The problem is in the Nord Stage 3. I had no issue at all playing my Electro 5d from my PX5s, but when I bought a NS3c I immediately noticed the problem. It is actually almost unplayable with piano sounds. I have a support ticket with Clavia and it should be fixed in the next firmware update I really hope!

    Now, have a look into Nord Stage 3 OS update 2.60! It addresses the velocity problem with new curves (hard/mid/soft). Before, I had a MIDI velocity translator in between.

    Have a similar velocity issue with the NI Komplete Kontrol A series keyboards. You can't adjust the velocity curve and it's a struggle to get a wide dynamic range with these boards.
    Once you've picked up on an issue like this it can very difficult to work around it.

    Hi @DSoundman, did the latest firmware updates fix this issue? I found some comments (~2yrs old) on the Nord forums about people using a MIDI velocity converter? Have you ever used one of these? It was from a company called MIDI solutions.

    Hi, congratulations for your tutorials on the black and white keys on both poano and controller. At some point, according to it, it is better to buy this model (I am not clear about the many families of instruments they offer you when you register the product on the web. Or is it better arturia keylab mkii 88? I have listened to many demos on the abalolab softwsre "V". 'buy? I had a kway acoustic vertical, a roland rd 1000, a numa piano. I need an 88 with modest cost, but which has many families of instruments both sampled and vst, hammonds and synths. I look forward to your dispassionate I recommend because in a few days it will be my 68th birthday and I want to give myself a nice gift. • @DSoundman
      @DSoundman  3 года назад

      Hey! Not that I’m aware of, but I also haven’t spent time trying to figure it out. I’d have to see if any of the knobs on the Nord respond to MIDI messages...if so, there’s a possibility you could.

  • @valendis
    @valendis 3 года назад +1

    Hey! Is the probleme only when trying to control another midi controller or on the hammer 88 PRO aswell? Just finished the video, sorry for the irrelevant question. I did notice a bit of a strong velocity curve on my hammer 88 PRO aswell, dynamic control on vst instruments helps a lot

    • @DSoundman
      @DSoundman  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, it’s great that some virtual instruments allow you to adjust the dynamic control/velocity curve...helps a lot! This seems to be a common issue with MIDI enabled keyboards or controllers as I’ve read of quite a few people having similar issues.

    • @valendis
      @valendis 3 года назад +1

      @@DSoundman I think this is made on purpose, they count on VST creators to add that dynamic range knob and just set a "good enough for everything" velocity on the controller. I just tried the mini grand and get a great dynamic response with this but I agree that's a problem when using it to control another keyboard

    • @DSoundman
      @DSoundman  3 года назад

      Yeah that’s a good point, it’s fine with the Mini Grand virtual instrument. It really depends on the instrument you’re trying to control, but you’re right, seems to be an issue mostly when controlling an external keyboard (like the stage 3).

    Do you think that M-audio will Solve this Velocity problem with an update ?
    I purchased this Controller and put it back to its Box just because of this Major Problem ..
    I believe it is an M-Audio problem
    I used it with Cubase and Kontakt piano it was disappointing

    • @DSoundman
      @DSoundman  2 года назад

      My problem in this video was two-fold. One, the Nord Stage 3 had an issue (recently fixed by Nord) where the incoming velocity from a controller was way to harsh. Now that Nord has fixed that, the velocity going from the Hammer 88 Pro to the Nord Stage 3 is much better. I have found that in general, I need to keep the Hammer 88 Pro on velocity setting Medium to get the most realistic playable velocity for me. I've been using the Hammer 88 Pro with different piano VST's and have found the same...Medium presents the best velocity curve for my playing. The only exception I've found is with the XLN Studio Grand, I had to go into the VST and adjust the velocity response down a little.

    What happens when I connect and 88 midi to a 61 keys nord, will the midi be able to play all 88 keys. Does the nord 61 have an 88keys sampled sound?

    • @DSoundman
      @DSoundman  Год назад

      It will play all 88 keys. Even though a keyboard may only have 61 keys, you can always transpose up or down octaves to reach the other notes. An 88 just gives you access to all without needing to transpose!

I play both of these instruments and the difference is vast(subjectively speaking). Looking up online references, Stage 3 has a modified TP/40 keybed while Studiologic has TP/100.
      Stage 3 HP76 should have the same TP/100 keybed as Studiologic 88
