As a Floridian I make my hurricane kits similar to this. I prefer to use oversized suitcases with wheels with the inside zipper and netting . It makes for easy packing and movement for potential evacuations. I pad the suitcases with a disaster blanket. I also add sterno, matches, flashlights, batteries in double Ziploc bags and add to the inner zipper section with a can opener, a roll of tissue and paper towels.etc (carry important paperwork and meds in separate Ziploc) I keep a disaster bucket with wipes, cleaning products, microfiber towels, scrub brush, etc. When my son was small, we had a small disaster case for him to "roll" with extras.
Brilliant! I would add some vitamin C/multivitamin tablets and some painkillers too. These can be placed in zip lock bags and fitted in the cavities between the cans. Those packets of seeds is a great idea!
Just a suggestion: on the outside of the bucket put a big computer label sticker with the names, quantities and measurement amounts as well as the expiration date-next to each item in the bucket, this will help with inventory checkups in the future and the buckets don’t have to be opened, it will also help since products all have different expiration dates.
Add a can opener per bucket and a pack of strike anywhere matches in a Ziploc bag. Great video. I'm copying this. I like the bucket plus the lid as well as contents. I would add a bag of rice and hot sauce packets.
Grear idea!! I can't remember if it was Mr. Lead or someone else that suggested keeping a cast iron soup pot with a lid in a survival kit, put all the can openers cooking utensils and matches in a zip lock bag then close the lid...that way hopefully every thing stays dry. You can make ricenbeans, warm up soup or hot water. Ty for this tip!❤
Full size can opener in each bucket, fr dollar store or 2nd hand. Could be used as barter cause you will have a bunch. Also, if you repackage the dry goods into vacuum sealed or mylar bags and label them, you can pack more items in the bucket. Don't forget the hot sauce!!!!!
Lots of space for seasoning packs too (salt, pepper, hot sauce, soy sauce etc). I have a ton from leftover takeout that are sitting around or get thrown away.
Exactly. I have three and it’s just me but I will get more. I store dry rice with bay leaves to prevent mill worms etc and I wash clothes in one etc. you can relieve yourself in them if in a bind and put the lid on it. …you put a deodorant in it to quell the smell….Im not skinny but the bucket is sturdy….I had to wait a weekend to get a new toilet so that’s how I know sorry for TMI but this is reality. People talking about his haul isn’t healthy well Starvation and Death isn’t healthy either. You can live healthy when up, but if the SHTF these items will get you over and the reality is that everyone does not have sprawling land where they can raise animals and grow crops so you must improvise for your survival.
This is great idea to keep in your car trunk w case of h2o and maybe one of them stoves and blanket esp if u in snowy area if u get stranded on the road or beoke down for long period of time.
Great emergency pack example! Maybe can-opener, snack bars, drink mixes. Assume you have a way to cook. Good job! Love the dog with her own emergency backpack. =)
Way better than those “72 hour kits”. We have been working on one of those big blue totes with the clasping handles with rice, beans, coffee, crackers, flour, sugar, emergency chocolates (that’s hard to explain to kids under 8😂). We just add to it when we go to the store. We have propane tanks ranging from 1lb up to the standard grill tanks. Several methods to cook and heat/purify water. Dont forget some kind of electrolytes (Liquid IV or Gatorade packs even).
Been a prepper for over 20 years. I am 46 now. Lost food storage along the way. Started over. I have like 50 cases of ravioli, ramen, canned fruit. Im not worried about people saying its not healthy. It will get me through. My grandsons 5 and 6 are non verbal austic and mostly eat ramen. My granddaughter 3 will get the different chefboyrd. I have rice for myself. Also at my work when we run out of gallon water I buy soda. I dont drink soda. But there was a time in my unhealthy life I drank only that. I survived. My method is cheap get it fast. If nothing happens after the election. I will get different foods. I'm in North Dakota. Preparing for severe winter. I have sternos to cook the ramen and tested it out. I feel pretty okay if SHTF.
They’re mentioning healthier choices especially since autism and gut health has been linked…with highly processed foods based on stool samples. They’re more at risk of eating the same meal over and over and not being nutritionally sound for life.
It's after the election now ☹️ I put together a plastic tote full of storage food last week. I am hoping to put together one or two each month because I am concerned. I recently got twenty 5 gallon blue water jugs. A business was getting rid of them, so I got them for free. So in addition to the 8 we already had at home we should be able to store quite a bit of fresh water. I have been teaching my 15 and 12 year old daughters how to cook on a hobo tin can stove. I feel fortunate because I live in Iowa and we can easily grow food here, and we live close to 3 rivers. But my oldest daughter and her baby live in Arizona. Tucson would be a terrible place to be stuck with no power and no food or water.
@octoscorpion2506 sounds like you are all set!!! I bought 40 5 gallon food grade buckets. Storing water in those. I'll change them out if nothing happens. I will be running it through my Berkey. It seems like when I think I am done, there is always something else. The rest I am asking Jesus to guide and help me. Well anyways happy survival to you!!!
Guess what is coming off of her tail and the urine filled doggie blanket? That's right, dog faces and urine. So, put your groceries in the cart, take them home, and feed your families; an enjoy dog duty being fed to your entire family.
I would've put more canned fish rather than the processed ravioli and dumpling soup and put more plain canned beans without all the corn syrup and artificial flavoring that go in the baked beans. Cleaner food would prevent possible stomach upset and preventable ailments, even if it's not as flavorful. This is still a great idea and it's definitely better than nothing at all
Plus you want the calories for sustaining yourself if for whatever reason you are without. You won't be worried about the preservatives if you can't get unprocessed items.plus he says whatever works for you.
At least I did something right…. Just got caught with no fuel. Still kicking myself for that one. Have 5 buckets. Some with food, one medical and hygiene, cooking essentials. Thank you!
The seeds were exceptionally smart thinking. I am glad you did this Video to teach people that it does not take much money to have enough survival food supply. You can do it gradually or in other words over a small period of time
Thanks for the video. The one thing I would add is to write out what is inside and the expiration date for each. Tape to the bucket and put the same list inside .
Great idea! The "only" issue with the rice and beans....is that they need water, especially the beans. They need water to soak, then cook. If you don't mind sticky rice then you only need water to cook (I like to rinse my rice several times to get rid of the excess starch on outside of the grain). All of the tinned food you got, you can eat cold right out of the can, not the most 'appetizing'....but in a survival situation, you do what you got to do! If you want to heat them at your campfire, make sure to OPEN the can just a bit...so it doesn't explode. Lol. In a pinch, you can get some quart size freezer bags to use as 'bowls' with those instant oatmeal packets. Don't add boiling water/milk,..but warm/kinda hot. Maybe double bag it just in case. Also, a set of camping utensils or toss a few 'fast food' spoons/forks/knives in a ziplock baggie. Matches or a lighter or two.

I’m glad you made this video. I was just googling what to put in a emergency bucket for power outage. Thank you. This is Bret, I ran into you at the Home Depot. You was on your way out of the state.
My brother, I just lost my heart when I saw your sweet little baby girl 🐾in that shopping cart. I love watching your videos and learn so much. I'm 74 and just bought my first can opener 😂hugs, Marie Aiken
Well, great thinking ahead. Have you ever thought of possibly freeze dry foods . I would also add water purification tablets, aluminum foil, duck tape, lighters ,fork, a bottle of water.. Great starting out mode.
Wait a minute! "Princess Pup"🐕is riding in the basket with a "pink piggy backpack", and shopping at Walmart with grandpa? Lawd, I've seen it ALL now. At least she will be ready & well informed for any emergency situation that may arise.
A good idea also would be a bag of fettuccine noodles (you can break these in half) and rice. You can separate them out into freezer ziplock bags. They can be added to the soup to make it more fulfilling also. I'd have to throw in some instant mash potatoes with a can of milk. And definitely some canned fish. With a little bit of flour and water, you can make a simple fry bread too. And a small container of spices put together can add some well needed change to the food. A can opener and at least one set of stainless steel utensils. Plastic ones can break easily, so you have something to fall back on.
Good looking bucket! I’d add a can opener and some spices that would be helpful with making the beans and rice more palatable, plus a canned green vegetable instead of a canned ravioli.
Can opener, also cans with pop tops like tuna, sardines, etc. Scissors and plastic spoons, forks, knives, paper plates or paper saucers. This can another bucket with all these things in it. ziplock bags for leftover non perishables. Great reminder especially for those of us who live in the city/urban areas. Thanks.
Nice work LF! May I say, I check my cans for dents, dates and damage. That bucket can get heavy…check for packet beans, fish and rice (usually in microwaveable packets) or “5-minute” rice for less water use, they are around same price as canned sometimes. couscous is alternative, takes less water to prepare. Thanks for showing us how.
Good idea for family to make a bucket per person & bug out bags. I don’t have a vehicle & use a 3 wheel walker so there’s no bug out option for me. But it’s a nice thought that in emergency each person could grab their bucket & bag & hit the car & move out.
Lentils are the "fast food" of beans no soaking and being small they cook quickly. Can opener, water needed. Do not stack pop tops they are a bit fragile and have a shorter sell by date because the lid is thinner where the cut is. Put the pineapple in the bottom and in a ziplock fruit cans seem to go more quickly. You can also put the bags of beans in separate ziplocks or mylar bags in between your cans. I would ziplock the oatmeal packets.
Thank you very much for this video Lead! From me stocking up food already. I can go "shopping in my pantry for what i want to eat.😊. I can use a 5 gallon bucket I already have. I just need one of those red lids. Bless you for making this video! Peace and blessings ❤️
I like the dried lentils because they will cook without using too much fuel but I would probably switch out the rice for instant rice and the beans for instant potatoes so you won’t be using all your fuel for long cooking. All those canned goods can be eaten straight from the can (if you have a can opener and utensil) even without cooking. Good choices on the canned goods with high calorie and the nut butter. More bang for the space and buck! Good job!
Great video- I need to get some more buckets- i have everything else this will be my project this weekend- thank you for this wonderful video in my Dad's voice- you don't have to get ready if you stay ready!
Thank you Uncle Lead!! Little Princess Pooch got her little backpack. She carries her own items, huh 😁?? She is so well-behaved! I love you Leads! 🤗🖤🤗🖤
This is a good post. He is saying be prepared and I think that's great that is Girl Scout motto be prepared. Everyone should put what would suit them that would keep them alive. My mama lived to be 90 she ate spam pretty often it didn't kill her and is a good survival food but I do not care for Rice I may eat it four times a year . There are many other things you can eat besides rice , try pasta you can use it for me any different ways
I dislike Spam, baked beans, ravioli. Make it according to your taste. However, I think sardines, tuna and another protein would be good to have. Thank you Lead for showing us the way.😊🙏🏾👍🏿❤
I would’ve put all the canned goods on the bottom along with some tunafish then the beans and then the oatmeal but I think if you would’ve did the cans on the bottom first you would’ve been able to fit more
I would have put beef jerky, matches and coffee too. In my bucket I have two bags of lentils, water and spices. Only a couple can soups and went with canned meats. But whatever you pack in your please just make sure it’s items that you normally eat or like to eat.
Great vid. It's a good idea even if you don't live in a hurricane area.
I think so too!😂thank you

Note to self: add seasoning packets and can opener in the bucket
In survival mode you can use a knife to open a can. Old school struggle days. Agree on seasoning packets

Yes, indeed. I add a few extra items, food, etc. throughout the year, including water, therefore, be ready for emergencies for anytime.

I always keep a quart freezer bag for all of my excess restaurant condiments (hot sauce, mustard, soy sauce, s&p packets, ketchup, bbq sauce, etc).
And maybe some bouillon cubes for seasoning or an all purpose seasoningfor added flavor if needed.

Love the doggie. 💕Great tips.
I like her backback😂
I've been doing similarly. I love the seeds idea. I will add those to my list.thanks
The cute doggy backpack is the absolute best. ❤❤❤🐾🐾🙂
Thank you Uncle Lead!! Little Princess Pooch got her little backpack. She carries her own items, huh 😁?? She is so well-behaved!
I love you Leads! 🤗🖤🤗🖤
How adorable is your furbaby in its’ pink pig backpack!🥰
Thank you for this video. Please make more videos of buckets of food like this for ideas.
I am the queen of Ziploc and I make things fit!! she’s a beautiful dog 🐶
Would of added some bottled water & some vitamins.
Love this ❤ thank you for sharing.
I dislike Spam, baked beans, ravioli. Make it according to your taste. However, I think sardines, tuna and another protein would be good to have. Thank you Lead for showing us the way.😊🙏🏾👍🏿❤
I love this "Challenge"!! And it's very practical that helps people see how simple storing food can be. That's a tank of gas...which we all have.
This was a really good video for people to see firsthand how to put one together.
Take it home Mr Lead!! Next time bucket for puppy Lead#!!😊
Nice 👍🏾
This is excellent! I'm motivated! Thanks Lead73.
Me Too
You're very welcome!
Great video. The cans can be used for water and other things once emptied .
I would’ve put all the canned goods on the bottom along with some tunafish then the beans and then the oatmeal but I think if you would’ve did the cans on the bottom first you would’ve been able to fit more
This is one of the most practical prep videos I’ve seen…and I’ve seen a LOT!
Thank you for making it!
The princess keeps looking at uou like, wheres my bucket lol. Im sure she has one!!!
I got stuff from Family Dollar n Follar General, but I dig it for real.
That's a great idea! The doggy is so cute!
I would have put beef jerky, matches and coffee too. In my bucket I have two bags of lentils, water and spices. Only a couple can soups and went with canned meats. But whatever you pack in your please just make sure it’s items that you normally eat or like to eat.
Good video thank you. !!!don't forget to buy. 🐕 dog. Food
A really good idea, Brother Lead.
