I find it funny that when a beloved character is race and or gender swapped we are told " what does it matter? It is just a game/movie, it is just fantasy, it does not have to be real." So what is their issue with Stellar Blade? It is just a game, what does it matter?

@@gametime2473 They didn't REMOVE them as such. They are still there, but they've been censored to be slightly less sexy (and the gore slightly less gory), most likely at Sony's behest. Worth pushing back on, for false advertising and just the general principle of censorship, but it doesn't invalidate most of the good about the game. I'm hoping outfits and gore will be restored in all their glory for the PC release, since I don't own a PS5, anyway.

I play games for a little escapism to take me away from the daily grind, where peace and happiness can be as fleeting as a wokester exhibiting a conscience. When a game's creators decide that pushing a socio-political point of view is more important to them than my enjoyment of their game, when they forget that they're supposed to be selling a product, rather than preaching to a captive audience, like some kind of rabid, frothing missionary, they don't get my dollars. I have other things I could be spending them on. That captive audience they were counting on won't include this person.

I've managed to fixed the problem last night, I just uninstall my physical copy of Stellar Blade and reinstall it again without turning on the Internet on my PS5 and now I finally got the HARD R Uncensored version it worked like a charm.

Midway through my second play-through of Cyberpunk, I noticed Panam and Judy have important character dialogue.

In the end people don't really have any desire to see themselves in games, with the possible exception of the early Wii Sport games where we could pretend that, in spite of our sedentary lives, we actually could rush across a tennis court to give an excellent backhand return along the net to stymie our opponent. We want to see heroic types doing heroic things with their heroic physiques. No one believes that an animated version of a half crippled couch potato like me could scale a cliff. I have enough trouble scaling stairs WITH handrails. Just let people see the things they want to see. Even if it is a shapely butt.

Is it perhaps they aren't as disconnected as I think but they are forced to try to strike some impossible balance between the Blackrocks that fund them, the activists that work for them and the customers and inevitably failing? Is it that the mentality of those in LA, Montreal, etc. is just that delusional? Is it all social media's fault (with an added booster from Covid 😉) for the amplification of echo chambers that have created impenetrable barriers that no longer allow reality to ever enter?
I know it's probably at least partially all those and more, but I guess what I'm really saying is none of us know what an executives life is really like. I know you like to cover the thought process for what greenlighting something would have been, but I just don't understand how they could be actively making decisions that we can all see will lead to failure, but they can't somehow. How could they get to that state? Besides letting them run themselves into the ground, is there any way out of it?

Great essay. I loved the original mass effect trilogy, andromeda was awful in terms of the "scenery", but you could tell some dude somewhere had put some thought into the combat. In addition to removing certain shots of the wagon that Miranda is draggin Bioware also removed the wrinkles on Liara's Jacket due to her heaving assets. Kowtowing for little details like that in addition to Casey Hudson leaving to "explore new ventures" give me serious pause about mass effect 4.

The last controversy to Bayonetta was the official artwork "confirming" Bayonetta was a straight woman.
