      So in your opinion, RME ADI-2 benefit from adding Jotunheim 2? I am thinking about it but keep reading that ADI-2 is so good on its own that there is no reason to add an external amp...

      @S.M.A.Batista 3 года назад +2

      Your talking. "doesn't even compare" the RME and the Schitt addin-option both us the same sigma-delta AKM 4490 chip. The real difference is amplification and processing. The RME is basically fancy EQ and tone controls, big deal. I do like the fancy LCD though.

    • @73split
      @73split 3 года назад +1

      @@S.M.A.Batista that doesn’t sound like a fair assessment of the RME. The RME gets praise as a DAC not just because of the chip, it’s the way they implemented the chip that matters. I don’t have the RME but I do have the Bifrost 2, I pair it with my Jotunheim 2 for a very enjoyable setup. But I certainly wouldn’t have a problem using the RME as my main DAC, the extra features it comes with could come in handy.

      The multibit addin is nothing compared to a Bifrost 2 actual DAC. Currawong talks about it in his Jot2 review. Bifrost 2 or Denafrips Ares 2 are awesome DACs well well well worth it over the Modi multibit (separate) or addin card.

Or would the 789, Monolith Liquid Platinum, or SMSL SP200 be better options (in terms of warmth and musicality - as the Sennheisers are too sharp, bright and sibilant in certain songs). For context, I am running everything off of a iFi micro idsd Signature using Amazon HD and Tidal.

    YES!! POWER and the effects on replay! Another educational moment! I suspect for micro or nanoseconds, the SMSL is clipping - not in a way that would be audible distortion, as the ear would only perceive a “tonality” effect, causing the listener to wanna get through the vocal to the bass drop! Better headroom basically from the Schit. 😉

    Do you like this amp over the Topping A90? Why? How are they different?
    I own the A90, and my DACs are Schiit Yggdrasil A2 and the RME ADI2 DAC FS.
    The A90 shows significantly more depth with the Yggy than it does with the RME. If there's an amplifier out there that has at least all the qualities of the A90, but reproduces a notably more 3D soundstage, I want to know what it is.
    So far, the Jot 2 and Burson Soloist 3x are on my radar. Suggestions?

    • @carlosalvarez7445
      @carlosalvarez7445 2 года назад

      Yeah, I'm torn between the A90 and the J2 for the same reason. Apparently they are close in many ways except that possibly the A90 has wider soundstage and the J2 may present a harsh shhh in vocals. But that was the only one comparison I've found between these two great amps... hard make a decision! Please let us know if you find more info

    Great review I just went ahead & made the purchase. Just an FYI for anyone thinking about getting the J2, it’s on delay right now. I guess they’re having issue obtaining all the parts for it so the ETA for shipping is 5/27! I have the THX 789 right now & it just doesn’t get loud enough for me so I’m hoping the extra power of the J2 will suffice.

      I think it is and here's why- (stereo pre amp reasons only) the Jot 2 inherits tech stuff from the Freya plus pre amp in a smaller package, solid state only with less inputs. Nexus and Continuity S are almost SOTA today. You'd have to get the Benchmark HPA4 to have better specs and even that might not be a clear winner.

The file I generated in foobar2k is by the looks of it at 0db so when I tune the amp to 77db it's real soft in music (could also be replaygain I suppose). Place an order once time and it practically ships same day; next order your ship date slips repeatedly and they only way you get clued in is reaching out to their customer service; and this is the US! I have a great admiration for your expertise for reviewing products related to musical reproduction. You have helped me more than once to make sound buying decisions. I also appreciate your efforts to find better ways to analyze products and explain your approach.
    May I suggest some ways as a personal contribution to make your follower’s experience more enjoyable :
    1- I respect your style of staging your reviews (and Zeos), but please stop shaking your head as this makes your videos seasickness inducing.
    2- Presenting graphs or tracklists through a camera recording a monitor is a very bad way of sharing your views . The graphs are much smaller than what YOU see which makes reading and understanding the graph or the tracklists very difficult, more so when you are shaking your head. A proper way would be if you’d show us a stable printscreen.
    3- When you explain your approach of reviewing (through music scores , audio settings used for evaluation and so once) do this once in a video which would be referenced or when you change your reviewing process but not repeatedly in product reviews afterward.
    Hope my suggestions are well received and usefull! Keep on the good work!

    I ordered my Modius earlier this week it's now backordered till the 30th :( oh well it will get here eventually. I only wanted to keep the DAC amp separate so I can can change the sound as desired with the amp selection knowing that the Modius is a dead flat sound output which doesn't add any flavor to the music beyond the file it is supplied.

      @@Jopup5 honestly it's such a massive upgrade compared to my old THX AAA amplifier. It's a little smoother on the top end but I don't feel loss of detail. • @73split
      @73split 3 года назад +1

      I own both. The flux lab FA-10 has a little more power, but not much more. The Jotunheim 2 has a punchier sound signature, meaning it seems to deliver the sound with authority, the Flux lab sounds more easy going. They are both very good amps. But seeing how the Jotunheim 2 is half the price of the Flux labs FA-10, it gives you more amp for your money. Don’t let the specs of the Jotunheim 2 fool you, this amp is punching way above its weight class and makes the Topping A90 sound downright anemic by comparison.

      Not sure if I'll go the powerful amp dac route or a high end easy to drive headphone that'll be driven by my hip dac. I might get a focal clear if I save up enough in about a year.

      @@prabinpaudel5572 if money is tight and you want a good quality headphone that is easy to drive then I recommend the Goldplanar GL2000. It does everything very well and is easy to drive. You won’t need a powerhouse amp like the Jotunheim 2. I only have 2 headphones that require the kind of power the Jotunheim 2 puts out, HIFIMAN HE-560 and HIFIMAN HE-6SE. The GL2000 competes very well with much more expensive headphones and they don’t require an expensive amp to run. If I could only afford one headphone I would get the GL2000, it punches way above its price point and is well worth the money.
