Hi Dan, just added a comment but not sure if you’ll see it thought I’d try a reply too. I was just pointing out that your flue is on upside down and dangerous that way so you might want to pin the comment? I know as I use the smaller version without the oven. All the best, the failed hermit.
Hi Dan, that double ended pipe section is supposed to go on first at the bottom nearest the stove…..by having it at the top means your joints and flue are upside down and the creosote will run in between the joints causing it to weld together when cooled down like you mentioned. If it’s very resinous or wet wood it can even run down the outside of the flue inside the tent and smoke a lot or even catch fire! (There are vids on here showing this) Anyone rushing out to buy one of these, don’t put the double ended section at the top…put it at the bottom! 👍
I m looking at installing in my shed. You are spot on re instructions saying the double female end is at the bottom but I m worried about water ingress in the joints as the gaps are facing upwards to elements.do you think in this type of permanent installation that it's better to do it the opposite way round
I like that stove , As you say though , It would be a Heavy carry for any long Distance , but a great tool for Gatherings of friends who could share the load out , one handle each ? , Be Well my Friend , Best wishes to the Family also .🙂👍
yes a big bit of kit , i,ve been using one all last winter, ideal for jacket potatoes , any kind of joint and even does a mean toad in the hole .. enjoy
They are good and let out good heat my mate got one they heat up the tent, he bought one month ago I like them yes it's heavy but a great tent oven stove.
Looks like a good stove/oven. A damper would have made it even better. I’m sure you’ll get lots of use out of it this winter. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.
Just ordered a hammock hot tent and stove. Can’t wait to try it in the woodland! Chicken came out alright, looking forward to Dan’s hot tent dinners 😋 Stay safe atb 👍🦊
My dad made something very similar to this using an old calor gas bottle and plate steel. It had a flap on the top above the bottle to feed it, an air gap across the top of the oven and a chimney with damper at the opposite end from the fire. It was heavy but worked very well
This one is for those hikers who "hike" in 6x6 ATVs :) I betcha the tent weights just as much 😃 Btw, stuffing that chicken with 2-3 lemons really helpz with keeping it juicy.
Impressive stove/oven for sure. Thanks for the review. Chicken looked really good. Personally, I prefer using an already cooked chicken (Tesco, other stores are available), for the following reasons. 1) they are already cooked in a rotisserie type oven, so no chance of undercooking. 2) you can season on the outer skin as you wish and stuff half a lemon inside to keep moisture in; 3) the cook time is considerably shorter; 4) the entire chicken is trussed and tied and takes up less room in the oven; and finally get a cheap digital temp probe whether raw or pre cooked. Once it hits around 159F internal it will be moist as can be. Great stove; great review. Keep on keeping on. Nice to see your channel develop so well 👍
He was demonstrating how it cooks food, raw food. What the fuck are you talking about? It's not a cooking show, it's showing the functionality and heat distribution.
Absolutely devine looking chicken, you outdone yourself on this one! Can't wait for the roast and spuds onions pumpkin omg all of it!!!!! P.S stove cooks better than anything I've seen I love it 🌟❤️
Invest in a small carving knife instead of using a big bread knife for carving your different meats all the best look forward to seeing you use this oven on your next trip out in the woods in winter time all the best Dan happy camping
I was up at the wild camp woods in Keighley last weekend for two nights with my 8 year old it's a great place and my son loved it so did I for our first time doing a type of wild camp. Definitely be doing more and going there again. That stoves a little heavy for me to take on the train lol. But it might be good to use in the garden.
Love the videos my friend, keep it up! I'd like to have something like this for cold weather camping. Looking forward to the future updates on using this in the tent!
That stove looks good but probably not one for humping up a mountain but the chicken looked very tasty. But you have to try these things. Anyhow all the best Cheers BK
Nice one Dan. I have the basic Outbacker - It's brilliant! Just so you know, the jubilee clip is there for you to help guy out the chimney if the wind blows it around. Looking forward to seeing you use this one in the winter. Thanks again for the video. Much appreciated. atb Paul
Nice stove that. Thinking about it, as it's not a backpack stove and more of a car carry, they could do an xl model with the oven having 2 shelves so you could do your chicken and roasties together and use the top for the veg having the full roast dinner space. 👍🏼👍🏼
I LOOK FORWARD to following your adventures with this stove! The chicken COULD have been trussed and turned once or twice to good advantage. At your outside temperature, I would be satisfied with a shorter cook time and a juicier chicken! I am DRAWN TO THE LOOK and heating function of this equipment. Now to check out its options!
I like the look of this but seems a bit compromised with a small space for a fire and a small oven, I would rather use a bigger burner and use a big casserole pot on top than the oven.. but they have done a really nice job of this for what it is
If you put the double female ended pipe at the bottom attached to the stove then the males ends face down the oil won’t run down between the male and female ends. I’ve never had a problem splitting my pipe.. the jubilee clip is for attaching the rings at the top so that you can tie it down in the wind 👍
There is not a lot of room to get the chimney tubes in the oven side it took a few goes to get it to fit back in. Even then I had to take the tray out I am sure there is a trick to putting them back in. Not done a test fire yet but the stove/oven looks good as you say Dan its smaller then you expect but I am sure it will be great
yes i got one of them wood stoves but my oven is on the right hand side .and the fire box is on the left . good stoves but not to go back packing with one as my one is 16 kg
It looks a nice stove, does the hot air flow all around the oven or just the side nearest the fire and over the top? Have fun with cooking lots of stuff. I normally take a Coleman folding oven on camping trips the only trouble they need a gas supply and tend to use a lot of gas. Suggestions for the future make a pizza, make some cakes & my favourite whilst camping, make bread. (Episode 130 "Bake with Jack", he's an excellent source of knowledge on baking matters). Have fun, Barneey
I have seen Paul Bissker test this oven, the side next to stove is definitely hotter, regular turning will help for an even cook but of course one would lose a lot heat each time the door is opened. ruclips.net/video/bq8a3AnwY1E/видео.html
Great video Dan the stove looks great I’ve thought about getting one myself. However was it appropriate to release this video on the day we say goodbye to her Majesty. I think RUclips should of closed today like the rest of us. 😢😢😢😢😢😢
@@englishwoodsman not your fault Dan i think it’s RUclips as i had a Notification from some other video’s and the only reason I looked was because I thought it was about the Queen. Never mind. Not your fault. 👍👍
Got one last year for off grid living. Certainly wouldn’t lug in and out of the woods on a usual wild camp. Solid piece of gear. Great for prepping in these times as well. I have a feeling the price will ‘hike’ up soon…
Thanks for posting!😍 I am drawn to stoves that work in small pallet wood cabins: this would work well in a two-four man setup that was insulated using modern materials and construction techniques.
Nice video very interested in the stove I have a couple questions if you have a chance to answer, One is it possible you can reverse the way you put your pipes on instead of sliding down on the pipe it’s better to have it upwards and slide them in that way any pitch or Creo will burn down through the pipe and not get stuck in the seams outside, and I think for cooking that chicken I would preferred to have put it on the rack and use the pan as a grease trap, that way it would’ve been more like a convectional roaster and the chicken is not laying in the fat, looks like a great oven but my main concern is the pipes, to me it would be a better design if you flipped them 180 degrees,
You've done it again, put up a cooking video when I'm hungry but it's too late to eat. You could have mixed some bisto in with chicken fat at the end and made some great gravy. How much would wood it take to keep it burning on a very low setting overnight?
Hi mate whip I think the heat problem will be down to the amount of wood is burning. For me using it in a large hot tent I think it will be good . I hope you stay around my channel to see the stove getting used more
hello, I wanted to ask if there is a risk of having smoke in the tent when opening the door to reload the wood. it is more or less the hourly consumption. thank you
Hey brother, I love this stove and I’ve been pondering it for a while, the problem is that when i get to the outbacker site the image of the stove comes with a small window on the fire box and for me i really want one exactly like your stove, with a big window to have on my tiny cabin
