I think your mobile cart would have worked well if you had the room to access all sides but being against the wall wasn't as great a use. I think your new bench will fit the space really well!
Bet that feels like a luxury having so much more workspace now. I made myself a second sort of assembly/ painting staining bench and my god I don’t know how I managed without it before. Felt like such an upgrade.
Solid workbench Matt. In my workshop I took out the fixed workbench and built a new one from 3x2’s, doubled on the legs, so its really solid and heavy. Copied the lifting castors idea from Proper DIY so I can have the bench on its feet when I need total stability but can push the castors down if I need to move it around. Horses for courses; no single best answer
It'll be cool to see how you develop this bench and your workflow with it. Always nice to see how people get by in our size of workshops. Cheers and thanks for sharing.
That should be a lot better for working on Matt, there's always a trade-off in a small space between flexibility/mobility and solidity, but you sometimes have to try different options to really know what will work for you ! The question is will you have the discipline to keep the surface clear, I know I wouldn't ! 😉
I have a small fixed bench and a small mobile bench. However, the mobile bench never gets moved as I find it works best in one position. Nice bit of lateral thinking regarding the tapering section of the bench. 👍
I made a standard English carpenter's work bench from plans from rex kruger. It's got retractable casters so I can wheel it around and put it down firmly as required. Works great. Having a movable bench is a great asset.
@@Badgerworkshop I copied the Sjoberg style 'cos I couldn't afford to buy. They are quite lightweight even with a cabinet. I didn't want to bolt to the floor for some reason.
Hi Matt, Looks good and I am a fan of the fixed workbench or a fixed island workbench. I have three fixed workbenches in my workshop. At the end of the day the workshop is always evolving, next week you might alter it and in 4 years time change it again and the same in 10 years time. The workshop give you a freedom of mind and the freedom to change. You have made a great workbench and is very solid and made good use of a tight space by the door. As always a great workshop project Take care
Brilliant! High concept, relatively low tech, and your space is maximized. I will be doing something just like this when my shop-studio-potting shed is done later this summer. Thanks for the inspiration as always. 🇨🇦
Really interesting. When i look at other people who make benches out of 2 x 4 or 2 x 3 they plane them down and mill them so they are square for glue up etc. Its given me an idea as i am in the throws of putting shelves up in my garage with 1.5 x 3. Good video keep them coming.
The ability to move is useful but there is nothing worse than trying to carry out an operation (that may potentially involve dangerous tools) when your bench is moving about. Out of interest to you still have your router table, haven't seen it used for a while?
@Badgerworkshop what are the dimensions of this workshop please? I’m about to build an 18f x 8,1/2f workshop for myself and I’ve been thinking of doing this to mine from the get go!

That workshop has seen more changes than Debenham's changing room! 🤣
Each clip is nicely framed, and the transitions highlight tue framing.

It’s great having the extra space
The ever evolving workshed looks great
Thank you
Great video thanks Matt 🍺🍺👍👍

Sounds like a nice bench
6:40 Artistic positioning of the safety glasses. 👍
Thank you
Now that’s a bench. I built one like it. 6” top. Solid as a rock.
Are you using structural screws here? be interesting to talk about what you are using screw wise.
I haven’t been around for a while, this looks like a different workshop to the one i last saw, what’s happened to the table saw/thicknesser etc?
It'll be cool to see how you develop this bench and your workflow with it. Always nice to see how people get by in our size of workshops. Cheers and thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much
Goodlooking bench! What about outfeed table for the table saw though?
Thank you

Dangerous game Matt…never pulling out
Haha
A mobile clamp on vise, add the corner back on with a hinge or plugs (glued on 1 side) ?
Lovely shot with the specs at 6:38
Thank you
That's a solid bit of kit. Ever thought about doing a book on workbench and tablesaws matt? It would be phonebook thick.
Haha it would be
Just keep it up Matt then I won't have any worries building mine😅
It’s pretty simple to do

Thank you
Great idea for worktop - need to do exactly this for my craft room.
Thank you
Now thats a solid, functional bench. Nothing wrong with the first one, just all part of the evolution: do, review, learn and apply/improve 😊
I think the working is always changing and hopefully improving
@Badgerworkshop always changing, but that's all part of our evolution, I guess. Keep up the excellent work Matt 😉
Love the workshop update a much better use of space
Thank you
👍👍👍. Thanks Matt
Thank you
Ooo two parter, for a shop remodel. Me likes 😊. Simple and effective by the looks of it 👍🏻
Thank you very much
Nice job Badger

Nice job Matt, looking forward to next weeks video.
Me too - had to jam my Sjoberg-style bench against the wall to stop it moving while planing.
Thank you.
Interesting that you have to do that even with a fancy bench

Lots of space to work at Matt, nice!
Maybe add a batten at the end wall?
Thank you
Hi Matt, that's a great looking bench, I think when you finally finish it you won't know yourself, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Thank you

Looks good Matt, nice and sturdy!
Thank you
Pretty nice work, Matt! It looks great! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you very much

Thank you. It seems a good use of the space I have
What ear defenders are those you had on? I've been looking for some with Bluetooth, would you recommend them?
Great job.
Thank you
good job looks a lot better
Thank you
Just finishing my new shop, this is a great idea - thanks!
Hope you are enjoying your new workshop

Nice addition Matt! Take care & stay safe.
Thank you
Looks good
Thank you
A great job !
Thank you
Brilliant idea!
Thank you
Nice glue application! I can tell you’ve iced a few cakes in your time 🤣
Haha thank you
Much better design. Should work great
Thank you

It’s about 2.4m x 4m
It'll last a damn sight longer than your new shed! 🤣
Haha maybe
Can I ask where you got those work trousers from?
The are carhartt
Lol
What about your rule…everything on wheels! 😊
That’s you 1 workshop rules everything on casters
Yes true. Rules are meant to be broken
I put an elaborate wheel system on my bench. Don't think I've ever used it!
Sometimes simple is best
There’s proof you don’t need to spend your life savings to have a great workbench. Nice.
No this was pretty cheap to do
Also, knock out a few videos like the silicone one. Earn some money, artistic integrity doesn't pay the bills😅
