DINAH THOMAS Host of Gospel Music Nashville and co-host of Texas Country Gospel and Freshwell Media has a very candid interview with RONNY HINSON one of Southern Gospel Music's most Honored and Awarded songwriters.
Ronny Hinson has traveled for fifty-four years singing to some of the largest crowds to ever hear gospel music. He also is the organizer of the Original Hinsons, which was founded in 1967.
Ronny is known best as the composer of the gospel music standard, “The Lighthouse,” written in 1970. The Lighthouse won the coveted dove award and prestigious singing news fan award for song of the year in 1972. The Original Hinsons have become a name that is synonymous with gospel music. Ronny Hinson moved his family from California to the southeast part of the U.S. in 1971. To what is known as the “Bible Belt.” In that short time, he exposed the Original Hinsons to the epicenter of southern gospel music. The Original Hinsons became, and remain to this day, the fastest rising group in gospel music history, rising to prominence in eight short years after their move to Madisonville, KY.
The Original Hinsons rose to the pinnacle of their popularity in gospel music in 1979 as the genre’s #1 singing group. They are still recognized as one of the best loved groups in the history of music worldwide. Ronny was the first to bring gospel music to New York’s famous Carnegie Hall with The Original Hinsons singing to a sellout crowd. Ronny, and the Original Hinsons, would go on to appear as regular cast members on the nationally syndicated, and world renowned, Gospel Singing Jubilee television series while continuing to make appearances on other shows such as “The PTL Club,” and performed on Bill Gaither’s Homecoming series. In addition to singing with country legends such as George Jones at his personal country music park, they also made numerous appearances on country music’s “Grand Ole Opry” and made guest appearances on the “Wilburn Brothers” show, the famous “Porter Waggoner Show,” and Ralph Emory’s esteemed, “Pop Goes the Country.”
More recently, in 2018, Ronny performed as a soloist at the NASCAR, Atlanta Motor Speedway, and ministered to drivers and crews.
Ronny has made feature appearances on the Daystar Television Network and the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Ronny’s music is well received around the world in well over one hundred and fifty countries. Both Ronny and the Original Hinsons have performed before elected political figures such as the governors of Kentucky and Illinois, and none other than President Ronald Reagan.
Ronny has written and performed, as has many of gospel music’s most popular artists, some of his best-known and loved songs such as the aforementioned, ”The Lighthouse,” - 9 times #1 song and song of the year in 1972 and recipient of the dove award and the singing news fan award. His song was the first and only song to accomplish this feat for winning in both factions of gospel music. Here are more examples of songs that topped the charts and won numerous awards:
“He Pilots My Ship” - #1 song of the year 1973
“Gods Gonna Do the Same For You and Me” - #1 song two times in 1982
“When He Was On the Cross” - five times # 1 and song of the year 1985 and 1986

Ronny was the Singing News Top-Five Fan Award nominee numerous years and was voted “Songwriter of the Year” for four consecutive years, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991. The board of directors of the national quartet convention by 100% vote and landed him the lifetime achievement award in the year of 1990.
Through the years of his career, Ronny’s songs, and Ronny himself, have been nominated for the Gospel Music Association’s coveted Dove Award numerous times. In 2006 Ronny and the Original Hinsons were inducted into the official Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame.
In 1988 the Original Hinsons disbanded, and Ronny moved forward with a solo career. His first release “Higher Than I’ve Ever Been” skyrocketed to the #1 position in the famous Cashbox Magazine’s official charts. Ronny’s next release, “One Drop of Blood,” became a top ten song and helped to launch his longtime successful career as a soloist in the music he knows and loves best.

KENNY THE BEST SINGER❤
He's my all-time favorite singer of any genre. When I get to Heaven, I'm gonna tell him. Maybe he'll let me sing one with him.
I tell you there has been no equal to Kenny Hinson. I listen to him still to this day and it brings tears to my eyes. I met them all years ago in Olla, La. And they were so nice. I still have the album vinyl "Lift off the Roof" with all of their signatures. Its a one of my treasures.

Well we agree on that for sure!
You ARE RIGHT! I had just got through commenting to someone else that I thought The Hinsons were The Best Group EVER! Thanks for watching our RUclips channel!
Yep,Ronnie,I won't much on quartet music,so I would get up early as a 16 year old kid and endure all the quartets just to hear y'all and as y'all would sing the daggone credits would start rolling up on the screen as the show was ending,I hated that! Hinsons, there will never be another Hinsons,y'all the greatest, I'm 68 now!
He didn't tell what I like to think of as the rest of the story about "The Lighthouse". When Ronnie wrote "The Lighthouse", he had never seen a lighthouse but was inspired to see one so rode his bike one. Now, a beloved gospel song and to think it was written on toilet paper, thrown in the trashcan and Kenny rescued it, sang it and the rest and it went on to become the hope it is today. Hallelujah!!!
Hinsons have always been my favorite watch the jubilee all the time
They may have been the Best group EVER! Thank You for watching our RUclips channel!
In the late 1960's our group, The Sheltonaires, opened for the Happy Goodman's and they gave us a list of their songs so we couldn't sing them. I imagine that happens at most concerts.
what an amazing story
Completely AWESOME!!
Praise God. I love this song. I can't tell you how much. God is so Good to me.
We thought so as well! Thank You for watching!!
Thats what it's all about the journey not the destination. When it comes to sining for the Lord. I hope one day soon I can start mine. I love to sing for the Lord
I agree that it's ALL about the Jouney! Thanks for watching our RUclips channel!

Ronnie sang "THE LIGHTHOUSE "... and then KENNY sang... "THE LIGHTHOUSE"... And the rest is History.. No Disrespect to Ronnie, because Ronnie is one of "THE VERY BEST" Gospel songwriters in the History of EVER. . 🙏❤🙏 . .
THERE WILL "NEVER BE" ANOTHER 🌟❤ 🙏" KENNY HINSON"🙏❤ 🌟...
(But in my opinion)... NOBODY can sing..."STOREFRONT CHURCH"...like Bo Hinson did in Nashville,, ( Light up the Night) Concert...
BUT.. "KENNY HINSON" WAS, (in my opinion)...THE FAMILY 🙏"CROWN JEWEL"🙏 .
... 🎶 IF IT WASN'T FOR ... "THE LIGHTHOUSE,, 🎵 TELL ME WHERE, WOULD 🎶 THIS SHIP BE..🎵 🙏❤🙏...( i was raised,,literally a rock throw,...
from the 🌊 Atlantic Ocean 🌊
So, There's something VERY SPECIAL n dear to my Heart about an old "LIGHTHOUSE "
