If you already ran a half marathon in the Vaporfly and it was your first time wearing them, then that's awesome and shows you might be naturally gifted at running. But it's the last thing I'd recommend to a real beginner. The Vaporfly is a very stiff shoe designed for maximum speed at all distances, 5K and up. For most people running their first races, a more padded, comfortable shoe without a carbon plate would be a safer option. Since you like ASICS, the Novablast or Superblast are definitely worth trying. The Run Testers just made a video about Running Shoes for Beginners if you want more in depth info on the subject. Good luck with your running!
Hello, i am 28 and am running for most of my life. I run a sub 1:20h half and last year my first full marathon in just about 3h. so on the shoe topic: The Nikes are indeed for fast Running, but the Distance is not the importend Part of it. Its more the Running style. Because there are two typs: the Forfoot and the Heelrunners. They both have their Pros and cons and across all the pro athletes in the long distance they are evently spreaded. The Vapofly pushes you, based on the way it is build in the front, forward. Also there is a Carbonplate build in which gives you energy back, you but in the ground. BUT they are, as you experienced, not very stable. So these shoes are more recomended to more advanced runners with very stable ankles and knees. Another Contra for beginners is, they only have a durability of around 700 km, at that point the foam around the Carbon-plate got alot weaker and most of the Bounce effect of that plate is gone. Further more its more likely that the plate will burst, and you twist your ankle. So it is more a Race shoe, which you put on, when you want to beat your PB, or do a Speed session. The Asic is a more conservativ shoe, a very good choice for a beginner. The base of the sole is bigger, than the part, where your foot is (pyramid shaped), so it stabilizes your ancles and helps alot to prevent from ancle inguries. That these Conservative shoes are more heavy is also a good thing, it is benficial to all your joints, because the foam, which is used in these shoes, absorbs alot more from the impact. Esspecial to beginners this is good, because you most likely dont have a good running technic yet, and this absorbing thing also prevents from Joint injuries or, like you experienced, pain. I always would Recomend to find a shop, where you can try diffrent shoes from different Brands, and have a good Customer service, who askes you allot of questions about where you run, how long, how often, what were your last shoes, what did you like, what wasnt good. These are all crutial questions to find a good shoe, which matches your needs. Do not fixate on on Brand, dont hate a nothere (You didn't but i see that alot) When you are on your quest to get a new pair, be open and try as much as you could. You will be surpized. (also a green flag for a good shop is, that you can test these shoes for a small turn, like half a mile or one). Another thing is the prize. If you are i your first year of running: do not spend more than a smartwatch will cost, but also dont buy a shoe which convinced you 100% (another shop greenflag a good salesperson don't want to sell you the expensiv pro elite shoe just to make the sale, he or she wants you to be happy and bring your friends next time you need new shoes) I would recommend, try running without music once in a while, because you train your brain only to enjoy it with music. Think of this: what happens if you forgot your Headphones, or they are empty? I found my self often in that situation, and as a result i didnt even went out for a run or didn't enjoy it. But the whole thing of it is having fun when you go for a run. Also with out music it is more likely that you will more focus on your self. Your breathing, how it feels when you change the rythm of it, how your legs feel, where are your arms, are you unnesessary tight in your body, and so on. It so much helps to improve your running form. Also find people to go for a run with. It is so much easier to run with someone else, and alot more fun. If you are faster than the other person, excelent! Choose the pace of the other person, slow runs makes you faster. (scientifically proven) If you are the slower person, ceep it slow, you dont waste the time of that faster Runner, it will help him or her. And as much as i love my Garmin, i would recomand, and that is a more general advice for Beginners, you don't need it. Just start. put your shoes on, hit that start button on your phones Stopwatch and go. you will see that progress, because you will run that same round over and over again. And just because you went out and did that run, even if it was just half a mile, you did alot more then 90%. Be fucking proud of you, you did it, and you did it for your self. You also can start using these apps on your phone. If a complete beginner askes me, i would recommend master the 10k on your long run, than you can think about getting a running watch. (Which watch is a whole new topic) On the other hand i know how motivating that thing can be, so if you don't care about the money: go for it. PS: Haters gonna hate. Let them cry about it. Im impressed you went from no running to a half marathon in that short time.
Hi Jasmine, my in ear earpods have poor shielding. Music gets cutoff when im at the start line coz lots of interference from other devices. Do you have any recommendations for android earpods or have you tried any bone conducting headsets?
running vest is a savior for me when running as well, just drop everything I need comfortably so I’m handfree. ❤
men of culture, we meet again

I think people who run with overhead headphones are crazy, especially if they're noise cancelling. It's not safe, for a variety of reasons.
