A legendary Mech Tech that has Done his work in multiple jobs doing mech assembly for Numerous Companies/Brands being a valuable part of the war effort because he knows the compatible models of every piece that could be used in a mech/ can make a damn good adapter for it. "functioning frankenmech"
9:37 that is a Supercharger, its a masc but for engines, and its pretty much only ever used by pirates, probably as people don't like making engines have a heated meltdown.
A friend of mine when he creates a "frankrnmech" he has it where his techs modify the internal structure to fit a different engine regardless if its a 300 rating. Some times he even limits space/tonnage. If he adds an arm of a heavier mech he reduces the amount of tonnage he has access to due to the weight of the heaver component from heavier mechs.
My 1st Franken Mech was called ' Frankenstien' piloted by Major. W. Hardcort . Base mech was a Battle Master . Legs , CT , and Head of the Battle Master . The Lt & Rt arms & torsos were from an Archer . It was 80 tons .
I mean to be fair battletech does a really good job making believable ammo feeds... IRL however it's best to just call it magic and move on... Like swerouly look up Fighter jets, tanks and ships reloading ammo and tell me the very simplistic ammo feeds of battletech don't make sense.
I believe calling them chimeras would be more appropriate. This reminds me of Ugly’s from Star Wars: basically kitbashing whatever starfighter parts you have lying around/available to create a functioning starfighter. Are there any franken-mechs that are actually purposely designed/built that are effective and work? Only reason why I ask is because there are at least two Ugly’s in Star Wars that are: the Chir’daki and the Deathraven
Literally the same idea, just with a mech instead of a starfighter. For the most part though, there IS the Snords Irregular's frankemech, which combined an Archer and a Rifleman I think. It was effective enough to keep fighting for a while after being built. But then again Snord's was a clanner unit and they have clantech, so.
@@Omega_1111 to sum up the cataphract, they had tons of specific maruader parts and other incomplete production lines and engineered a solution to plug them into a new line to produce a usable mech.
I have the Frankenmech from the Snords Irregulars pack that I use with my new vehicles in a Deep Periphery Planetary Milita company it's worked quite well for me
Franken Mechs. The "have parts, make do" of any setting. Normally worse than anything else, except not have one when the enemy does. Some settings are more forgiving to Franken Mechs than BattleTech. Armored Core comes to mind. That might be the most friendly setting to the concept, with the modular designs.
Modular... franken-omnimechs anyone? Who doesn't want a mostly Mad Dog with a Fire Moth arm that makes it look like it is always hanging for a high five? The weapon pods mean they can be anything! Plus making clanners cry when they see your abomination is worth the risk of explosion.
I mean if it';s modular it doesn't count as the bmodular bits are meant to fit together... So by your logic Lego wins the title of fraken friendly setting of all time... Because while the point of Lego is being modular man do things get wild even if you only build legally.
Which to be fair it's a seemly universal truth that if your force has a tank and they don't they won't win atleast not easly. Like tough history since WW1 and well WW1 when ever people had tank even just armored vechals and their enemy didn't their enemy likely didn't win... Like even with drones today it's better to have a tank then not as hbunter killer drones are still very rare and bullet and artillery are very common.
God, I know the internet's ruined me when I took one look at the yellow frankenmech showing up at 16:30 or so, and immediately my brain went "yo that looks like a Minion mech!"
At one point in a modded MW5 run, I had a Javelin with Jenner arms and Locust legs, but I personally despise having to use Javelins due to their crippling lack of actual armament so I considered it an improvement.
9:44 So, not to bash on any of this, but interestingly enough there are I.C.E's used in some Frankenmechs because either they really did just scoop it out of a dead tank or it was built out of a Agri-mech/Construction mech which typically also had Internal Combustion Engines. And I could be wrong on this but it really looks like the cockpit of the Corsair is actually the front half of a ground vehicle which would not surprise me in the least. People have done crazier things.
Honestly the main benefit to using a fusion reactor in a mech would be power out put per fuel use... Also I could see mech using just betterties or even a power cord if things really got bad... Which the down side of batteries is the weight, lack of energy stioage and charge speed... the issue with the power cord is the wire but if you have none of the other options it's littly better then nothing.
@scienceinsanity6927 @7:20... "Brandon Herrera" is the gun-guy with the videos. He's definitely entertaining. Also: The Corsair If properly modded is one of the finest assaults in mw5 mercs. I've got a x2 Gauss/ x2 Large Laser/ Srm4 (or more) build that'll devastate entire crowds. I'd choose It over plenty of standards.
I mean given how many times GM has fallen and evcen gone bankruapt yet has never stopped being a major company and has even became one of the top companies time to tiome... So getting GM stock isn't a bad idea kinda underrated now that I think about it.
All of this and no mention of MercTech Lite, which allows you to create proper frankenmechs in MW5: Mercs, combining whichever limbs you want on any torso (within the same weight class), or even swap side torsos from other variants of the same mech.
I’ve recently gotten into the battle tech universe via mechwarrior 5. Love the videos they are an easy way to understand the lore of this insane franchise. Just wondering if you have a video planed on the Black Knight or the Crab as they are my favorite mechs in game at the moment. Keep up the great videos
The Gorkanaut/Morkanauts, Stompas, and Gargants (as well as Deff Dreads and Killa Kans) created by the Orks from Warhammer 40k are great examples of "Frankenmechs"
I mean the funny thing about them is while in the lore they are so faken mech none can tell if they are fraken, factory or improviosed but very likely all three. But on the table you almost never see anyone kitbash models for them... Only really the Ork trucks get that treatment most of the time instead.
Me, playing MechWarrior 5 and can't even install 20 missiles on my Centurion, despite CLEARLY HAVING THE FKN SPACE FOR IT. Then finding out there's a unique version with 20 missiles so APPARENTLY SOMEONE CAN DO IT, BUT NOT ME. Then I modded the game, and it actually became fun.
This video reminded me of Apollo 13 (And maybe the Boeing Starliner in the future, though I hope no one hurt) in the whole "we are boned. We need to make our carbon scrubbers work in a slot they don't have, we need to make the batteries from one move to another etc.
Ok the reality here is... a lot of time franken mechs existed and just worked. But not because of everything here. Mech's were scarce. they were hard to get. They were often handed down for generations in some cases.. (pre-3040 that is) there were people, who would scower battlefields for parts, for salvage... who would spend their lives collecting scrap with the point and purpose of building battlemechs. And some of them were very good. And smart. while you saw stuff like the Cataphrate which was part 45 ton, part 55 ton, part 75 ton mech all thrown together... There were people that... type matched. ok, so we have wolverine, griffin, shadow hawk... all at 55 tons. all with the same speed... so we can take the legs of any of those 3.. and the engine from any of those 3.... and the power outputs are generally going to match... so you get shadowhawk legs, wolverine torso, and griffin arms. PPC and SRM6. all the internals match to a 55 tonner, gyro has no problems and engine has no problems. They would spend months, sometimes even years tweaking and re-balancing this. testing armor and jumpsets out then... sell the darn thing for millions and start a new project.
Yeah as long as it wasn't a total fraken mech were no to parts were compatible and you sucked at making them work... Which really seems unlikely to me at least not till the world of blake era. It should be fine as a disposable/Ace mech.
Most Frankemechs may well be barely functioning heaps, but there's a couple fo great exceptions. One being the Sneed Special, an unholy kludging of Rifleman, Phoenix Hawk, Warhammer and Archer that Shorty Sneed piloted with great distinction for at least a decade. Then there's Legend Killer, which was a totally stock, unmodified Rifleman that contained no Warhammer components or armour, honest.
My favorite one has to be the Cataphract. Started life as a bunch of spare parts. Did so well that once they brought them back to the rear lines it was made into a proper mech.
The highlander with four legs, chances are that is a Hell Horses assault mech known as a Thunder Stallion. It was a best of a mech, no torso but sported a heavy gauss rifle. The whole mech needed to turn in order to aim it's main weapon, more suited to an artillery role still it was able to one shot up to medium mechs unlucky enough to get within it's crosshairs.
0:40 That's a Hellspawn. Not a frankenmech at all. I'm fact, it's a quite expensive medium fire support 'mech. 17:56 That's just half of a Yeoman. As if it didn't have enough troubles already.
Some of my fave frankenmechs are the roguetech pirate mechs, special shout out to the pirate atlas, whose ECM and Probe Suite is just the upper body of a Raven welded onto its shoulder
Watching this video is giving me tons of ideas. I've gotten into BattleTech classic TT, and learned how flexible the setting is on what army you want to play as, and/or even encourages making your own mercenary company. I've been wanting to make up a company that's a group of neutral/well meaning individuals from all walks of life, who are almost always salvaging and rebuilding destroyed mechs from battlefields, rescuing/aiding any injured troops or pilots, and getting the heck outta dodge before reinforcements arrive to clean up. (Basically, think of them as kinda a cross between the Atom Cats from Fallout 4, and Team Star Fox.) I was actually considering trying to build lore-friendly Franken-Mechs, but within a reasonable safety area.
oh the corsair lmao but yeah thats a throttle body for an old school style muscle car like a mustang or camaro that specific one was used in an old carburated engine
The Cataphract is an example of a Frankenmech that was so good that it acquired its own factory production lines.

There's already a mech called Chimera (naturally it looks the part) which is probably why they didn't.
Cataphract in lore was kind of a frankenmech. Designed and put into production by a very desperate house liao/Capellan confederation
@@Omega_1111 And then stolen, by the FedSuns XD
It DOES fit the requirement though, the Cataphract is an entirely serviceable, even very good, mech.
It may sound stupid, but using whatever you available to fight a war is a very common situation!
This is a troll video i think. Half of problems relate to normal mech too.
@@GreenBlueWalkthrough As said, 'Have parts, make do."
Wait, no love for Shorty Sneed's Rifleman? The best frankenmech of all.
Quite possibly the first canon frankenmech
Distraction Carnifex in the middle of a Battletech discussion gave me a chuckle.
You can get a canon frankenmech in the snords irregulars box.
What I love about the Corsair is tht there's like 2 or 3 different tonnages. Both called Corsair.
There's a 55t and a 95t . Might also be some 75t variants, but I can't find them ATM.
Capellan engineer patting a Cataphract "It's not stupid...it'd advanced!"
...please someone get my reference
I remember it from somewhere but I forgot which comedian said it.
"Allmighty Tall-Ones, Invader-blood is running trough my veins! DONT IGNORE MY VEINS!!!!" - a small Irken
Damn it GIR!!! No tacos for you!
Corsair looks dakka, man!
Like when people mocked his tank, Bob Semple replied "At least I got a tank!"
Quagmire was my first thought when I saw the Hunchee.
Well played, sir.... as I wipe the coffee off my monitor.
God, I know the internet's ruined me when I took one look at the yellow frankenmech showing up at 16:30 or so, and immediately my brain went "yo that looks like a Minion mech!"
i FUCKING LOVE CORSAIRS, they are tuff af and punch stupidly heavy. imagine stalker on drugs.
At one point in a modded MW5 run, I had a Javelin with Jenner arms and Locust legs, but I personally despise having to use Javelins due to their crippling lack of actual armament so I considered it an improvement.
Never knew I needed a Statlas until today.
Sci you know you could put some Gundam Late UC mixed MS designs in there and noone would tell the difference. Look up the Gorgeous Gundam to see why.
You ever see an anhilator with catapult arms? Supprisingly terrifying
Im trying to get bits together to put rifleman/jagermech arms(yay magnets) on a marauder chasis
"like an entire trailer park just got up and walked off to battle" best description ever
Great job guys you only missed one thing... the bagpipes. With 4 legs frankenlander can bury 2 at a time.
that AC20 on the atlas/madcat...... well.... snake eyes 100%, feed steve ? is he pooor ? he might sell those MG stonks
2 six sided dice that you roll every five minutes? That's just a round of battletech in general.
I just bought some GM stock for the meme.
U cant stop me
I mean given how many times GM has fallen and evcen gone bankruapt yet has never stopped being a major company and has even became one of the top companies time to tiome...
@GreenBlueWalkthrough Yep
Crosair looks like a mech from 'The Forever Winter" game.
was thinking the same.
Other way around, probably.
@@SecondhandChucklehead Oh it deff is!
16:40 it gives me heavy "fuck it, macrowave" meme
This got such an unreasonable laugh out of me. I know what a microwave is and the idea of a MACROwave is just to funny for some reason.
When a Highlander and a Goliath love each other very much...
The Warhammer/archer combos searchlight could be extremely useful in combat because you could just blind your enemies
Urbanmechs: the Inner Sphere pop-up target.
(pre-3040 that is)
there were people, who would scower battlefields for parts, for salvage... who would spend their lives collecting scrap with the point and purpose of building battlemechs.
The 95 ton corsair is a beast with 2 lbx10 slg and 2 large lasers. Its a good sniper.
Those things are literally walking ork Killa Kans
Even pontiac, from the car, makes weapons in battletech.
The Corsair in YAML, for MW5 is pretty good. NGL, but only because it is a Hero Mech with extra quirks and armour.
My favorite one has to be the Cataphract. Started life as a bunch of spare parts. Did so well that once they brought them back to the rear lines it was made into a proper mech.
I enjoy all of SCIENCE INSANITY videos 🎉😂
That hunchee maybe should put the big arm on the other side, to balence the ac20
GM still exists, as does Boeing, Nissan, and several other major manufacturers.
Good timing.
I've just frankenmeched a command lance for my merc unit.
Awe... No Smitty Mech from Snord's Irregulars...
[pout]
0:40 That's a Hellspawn. Not a frankenmech at all. I'm fact, it's a quite expensive medium fire support 'mech.
17:56 That's just half of a Yeoman. As if it didn't have enough troubles already.
Some of my fave frankenmechs are the roguetech pirate mechs, special shout out to the pirate atlas, whose ECM and Probe Suite is just the upper body of a Raven welded onto its shoulder
I've seen enough Deadliest Journey to know that when people want to make something work, they will find a way to make it work.
(Basically, think of them as kinda a cross between the Atom Cats from Fallout 4, and Team Star Fox.)
I was actually considering trying to build lore-friendly Franken-Mechs, but within a reasonable safety area.
I bought GM stock for the meme.
Totally worth it.
Industrial size kitbashing!😂
oh the corsair lmao but yeah thats a throttle body for an old school style muscle car like a mustang or camaro that specific one was used in an old carburated engine
Johnny Cash song "One piece at a time".
Love that song!
“I got it one piece at a time, and it didn’t cost me a dime…”
😂 great song for this logic lel

WHERE'S MY BAG PIPES!?
See, this is why I adore Snord's Irregulars. They see this video and take it as a tutorial. And they are awesome.
17:38 Steve forgot to play the bagpipes when you said "Highlander!!!"
I had a group whose scout leader drove a WolvInHawk - a wolverine griffin shadowhawk - it was unique and definitely had.. .. issues
It's always a good day to see new Mech videos from Sci.
