Sunil has been talking about the widespread corruption of the political-economic system in Sri Lanka for past three decades as an artist and a social critic. Sunil made the decision not to enter active representative politics, most likely due to concerns about his and his close circle's welfare, I think, but I also think it would've been difficult to continue his music performance life as a politician, and most likely that played a bigger part in his decision. However, we can see that he cannot stay away from engaging in politics one way or the other, as a artist with a keen, critical mind of observance he simply could not keep things to himself. And he's right, once artists like himself become successful, they need to give something back in return. Sunil has left a massive void in the popular art as well as social-economic-political system in Sri Lanka with his premature demise. R.I.P.
