Absolutely beautiful country 🤩🤩🤩 Great video....reminds me of the south west like the sentinel range and the needles or mount Anne What a privilege for me to know Terry reid in real life afetr reading that diary note....( Gee Rob Parsons got a little Depp there 😂😂😂) I want to get to davers cavern one day it would be a special trip...I'm jealous 😁
Update......made it to the top of Frenchmans cap but ran out of time as snow was coming and we headed back to Vera hut....I was correct and I even seen Terry on the way out walking in with his wife....great country and a awesome spot I wanted to stay longer....beautiful spot prob one of the best hikes I've done....
What a great trip you had and weather. I'm heading back again in September. Wild camping is a great way to extend the trip in that area if huts are full.
Great video of a wonderful area. I once spent a whole week exploring around there. Unfortunately it's a prime example of the sort of walk you're not supposed to do under the new walker registration system.
Thanks for sharing this Bec, it was great. I am looking at doing Frenchmans Cap with my son early 2024. Coming down from Brisbane. I grew up in Tassie but lived in Brisbane for the past 26 years or so. I went back and did Lake Rhona, Hartz and Cradle early this year. Looking to go back every year over the next few years and do some hiking. Is there a gpx track available for Daverns Cavern? If so are you able to point me to it. I've looked online and on AllTrails, Gaia, other hiking sites but can't find anything. I have the description by Chapman in his Southwest Tas book but hoping there is a map and gpx file to make it a bit easier. Thanks
Daverns cavern is marked on the paper map 🤠 Tasmaps- Frenchman's cap 😁... Chapman's directions are pretty spot on! We used his directions and where it was marked on the paper map and used our compass! Finding the start was the hardest part. Once we found the track it was pretty easy to follow even though it was overgrown.
@@TasHikingAdventures is this for daverns cavern? No tags.. a few Cairns lead you to the top of the rocky screen.. the best directions I found were Chapman's. From there it was more about looking at the wear on the ground. It's very steep going down the chute and important to pick the right chute. Few Cairns further along but nothing you can rely on! Definitely a compass and map kind of situation. We weren't sure we had picked up the right track at all
@@becandthekidsthanks for the reply I just got a text off Terry downloaded Gaia and read Chapman's book hopefully I can find it thanks for the help 👍🍻😎💪
Where did you find directions/coordinates for Daverns Cavern? Been doing a bit of research, but cant find much. Would absolutely love to do that walk! Any help you can provide would be fantastic! Thank you 🙏🙏
Hi, I found some directions in the book "south west Tasmania" by John Chapman. His description was actually quite on point. I also found that on the tas maps for Frenchmans, daverns cavern was marked.. so I used that marking to put into my GPS and into Gaia and then got a Dr from work who had already been to check over my map! I struggled to find much info also so went in not sure if we would find it! Was super happy to find it!! When you get up onto the flat rocky ridge you need to look for some cairns heading to your left!! After you pass the first rocky knoll to the right... Look for some pink tape and go around the second rocky knoll to the left!! From there it's relatively easy to follow if you focus on the wear on the ground and not the overgrown bushes 🙂 hope that helps!
@@becandthekids that is a tremendous help, thank you so much! Just out of curiosity, you wouldn't still have those gps coordinates by chance? That may make things too easy though 🤭🤣

Sure is! The huts weren't full this time but it was still much nicer tenting it! Hope you have a fantastic trip in September 😊
Great video!!! 👏 👏
Thanks 😊 🫂
Nice video. Has saved me from having to do it.😁😁. My favourite walks are those I do from my lounge chair.
