Excellent!! Every other video spends all of their time explaining what capital gains are. This is the only one that explains how to figure your tax. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I am not a trader, but for the first time i sold some shares in 2020. 1099-B does not show cost basis, and I and my brokerage house does not have this info...so how am i going to put any figure in the cost basis box on 8949? Also, each year i get capital gain distributions. How do i know if my cost basis is included and that i am not being taxed twice?

If you know when you bought the shares, and how many shares you have, you can google the chart and look for what the price was when you bought them.

Also at minute 8, there is a period where you don't need to provide cost basis.

@@michaelrandazzo3959 I did google and yahooed for info and they just show over a 10 yr period, no cost of shares at that time. on the other point, where do I put the amount of shares I sold at 25 per share, so I can show a slight gain that I made?

@@noel888 yahoo and go to the finance tab. For older dates you'll find weekly historical stock price. For dates in between you could interpolate to compute an approximate cost basis.

@@noel888Found it. In Yahoo stock lookup look at Historical Data tab. You can spec a date range for historical daily stock prices. I see older historic data.
